Battleground Blitz Overview
Battleground Blitz is an exciting new PvP Brawl that will become a permanent feature in Patch 10.2. Players can join solo or as a duo (preferably with a healer) to engage in intense 8v8 PvP combat. Prepare for fast-paced, action-packed matches across 8 diverse maps available at launch.
Which Maps Are Available in Battleground Blitz?
Warsong Gulch, Twin Peaks, Temple of Kotmogu, Eye of the Storm, Silvershard Mines,
Battle for Gilneas, Arathi Basin, and Deepwing Gorge.
Team Composition
Each team in Battleground Blitz will consist of 2 healers, 5-6 damage dealers, and up to 1 tank. Opposing teams will always maintain an equal number of tanks. Matches without tanks will not be hosted on Capture the Flag maps such as Twin Peaks or Warsong Gulch. However, when a tank is present, the match can take place on any available map.
Match Length
The typical duration of a Battleground Blitz match is approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
Cross-Faction Queuing
To minimize wait times and enhance match quality, players can now queue and enter the brawl faster, regardless of their faction.
Item Scaling
Equipped gear with an item level higher than 312 will scale up to a maximum of 472 (which is 4 item levels below Dragonflight Season 3 Honor Gear). This scaling applies only to items with an item level of 312 or higher to prevent any issues related to over-scaling stats from gear in previous expansions.
A minimum Item Level of 330 is required to queue for Battleground Blitz.
Map Mechanics
Blizzard has introduced several adjustments to the way players engage with battlegrounds, resulting in a quicker pace and the addition of new mechanics that enhance the experience. As you face off against opponents, these changes bring a fresh dynamic to both individual and team strategies.
- On objective-based maps, the cast time for capturing objectives has been reduced to 6 seconds (previously 4 seconds).
- On domination maps, players will now capture control points in just 30 seconds after contesting them (previously 60 seconds).
- All players will receive the Swift Pursuit buff across all maps, increasing mount speed by 150%.
Eye of the Storm
In this mode, only two out of the four available nodes can be captured at any given time (one per side), and capturing these nodes will grant your team points, with the central flag being the key to victory.
- There are a total of 5 capturable nodes on the map.
- Resource acquisition has been increased to enhance gameplay dynamics.
- Once you fully capture a node, it remains under your team’s control for 45 seconds, after which it will deactivate. The node can then be recaptured by either team after a 5-second reset.
- To capture a node completely, you must finish a 4-second casting period and then maintain control of the point for an additional 30 seconds without the opposing team retaking it. Timers for this process are displayed under Objectives in the UI.
- While your team holds a node, the enemy cannot capture it during the 45-second window. The node will have a shield visual indicating it is locked and cannot be contested until it resets.
Arathi Basin and Deepwind Gorge
- There are 5 nodes available for capture across the map.
- Resource gathering has been boosted for a more dynamic gameplay experience.
- Once a node is fully captured, it remains under your team’s control for 45 seconds before deactivating. After a 5-second reset, it becomes available for recapture.
- To complete the capture of a node, you must finish a 4-second casting process and hold the point for 30 seconds without the enemy team reclaiming it. Timers tracking this progress are shown under Objectives in the UI.
- During the 45 seconds that your team controls a node, the opposing team is unable to contest it until the node deactivates and resets. A visual shield will indicate that the node cannot be captured while under your team’s control.
Warsong Gulch and Twin Peaks
- The flag carrier now accumulates the debuff (Brutal Assault) at double the speed, with each stack applying every 15 seconds instead of the previous 30 seconds.
- The maximum duration of a match is limited to 12 minutes.
Power-Up Runes
In Battleground Blitz, several maps now feature powerful new runes!
- Shield of Protection — Grants a protective shield that absorbs damage equal to 50% of your maximum health for 45 seconds.
- Into the Shadows — Bestows stealth and boosts movement speed by 100% for 30 seconds.
- Rune of Frequency — Accelerates your cooldowns by 50% for a duration of 30 seconds.
- Shadowy Sight — Enables detection of Stealth and Invisibility for 12 seconds.
