1. Which Mouse to Choose for WoW PvP

In the last guide, we discussed (or at least tried to) key bindings and how to allocate keys effectively. Today, we’ll talk about choosing the right mouse… oh, and of course, there will be a special bonus!

Hello, everyone. Today, I’ll share my choice of gaming devices, specifically the mouse, because it’s a crucial aspect when playing in the arena. I’ll share my 15+ years of experience in World of Warcraft and my choice of… what? Yes, you heard it right—a gaming mouse. Throughout my gaming career, I’ve used many mice, including A4TECH x7, Razer’s Deathadder, various versions of Naga, legendary Microsoft mice, several Steelseries mice, and tried cheaper alternatives like Reragon M990 MMO Gaming, various Logitech mice with and without multiple buttons… and here’s what I’ve learned: if you want to press buttons as efficiently as possible, you need a mouse with a lot of side buttons (yes, you can throw tomatoes at me now, many people don’t like such mice and don’t understand them—I used to feel the same and hated these mice, playing with the Deathadder). But at some point, I began to run out of buttons, especially if you’re playing PvP in the arena (those who play arena will understand me). In the arena, you can create countless bindings, from selecting teammates, opponents, targeting your allies’ pets, and targeting enemy pets to various pet macros. And through trial and error, I decided to try my first mouse with a… lot… of buttons back in 2013. It was a Razer Naga mouse (which broke after three months, sad face).

Let’s continue our guide on choosing a mouse for PvP in World of Warcraft! As I mentioned, at some point, I ran out of standard buttons on my Deathadder. This was especially noticeable in the arena, where quick reactions, using macros, and instantly switching between targets were essential. After the disappointment with my first Razer Naga, which unfortunately broke after three months, I decided to try other options. This started my long journey of testing mice with many side buttons, which I highly recommend for all PvP players. Here’s what I learned and which models are worth your attention.

  • Razer Naga X Let’s start with a newer version of my first mouse—the Razer Naga X. This mouse is specifically designed for MMO games and has 16 programmable side buttons, perfect for binding all necessary abilities and macros. Its ergonomic shape and lightweight make it an excellent choice for those used to long gaming sessions. Just set up the buttons to your liking and enjoy the game.Razer Naga X
  • Logitech G600 When I first picked up the Logitech G600, I was pleasantly surprised by its build quality and the convenient placement of the side buttons. This mouse has 12 programmable buttons on the side panel, slightly fewer than the Razer Naga, but more than enough for most players. It also offers a unique G-Shift button that doubles the number of available commands. The mouse is slightly heavy, but this quickly becomes irrelevant when you feel the control and confidence in the arena.Logitech G600
  • SteelSeries Rival 500 SteelSeries Rival 500 is another great mouse for PvP, featuring a unique button layout system. Unlike Razer and Logitech, the side buttons are arranged in a circular pattern, reducing the likelihood of accidental presses. This mouse is perfect for those seeking an alternative to traditional MMO mice with a familiar button setup.Steelseries Rival 500
  • Corsair Scimitar Elite If you need maximum customization, consider the Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite. It offers 17 programmable buttons, and its side button panel can move forward and backward, allowing the mouse to be adapted to your hand. This feature is a great find for players accustomed to customizing their devices Scimitar Elite
  • Redragon M908 For those looking for a budget-friendly alternative to more expensive models, I recommend trying the Redragon M908 Impact. It’s one of the best options in terms of price-quality ratio. The mouse has 12 side buttons and adjustable lighting. Of course, the build quality and materials are inferior to Razer or Logitech, but it’s perfect for getting started.Redragon M908

3. Why Mice with Side Buttons Are the Best Choice for WoW PvP

Using a mouse with a lot of side buttons greatly facilitates character control during combat. You can place the main bindings on the mouse, freeing up the keyboard for other important commands and movements. This is especially crucial in the arena, where reaction speed is key.

I often hear from players that these mice are hard to master and require getting used to. Yes, it will be challenging at first, but it’s worth it. Once you set up your bindings, you’ll feel the difference in gameplay immediately. You can cast spells faster, efficiently use macros, and instantly switch between targets—all with one hand.

4. What to Consider When Choosing a PvP Mouse

  • Number of Side Buttons: The more buttons, the more bindings you can set up.
  • Ergonomics: The mouse should fit comfortably in your hand, especially for long play sessions.
  • Reliability: Pay attention to build quality and durability. Arena play is dynamic and often emotional, so the mouse should withstand extended use.
  • Software: Convenient software for setting up buttons and macros also plays an important role.

Useful Binds for Mouse Side Buttons:

  1. Dispel Allies: Assign dispel to one of the buttons for instantly removing harmful effects from your allies. This is particularly important for classes that can remove magic, curses, or poison.
  2. Stopcast: Binding a button for instant cancellation of the current spell (stopcast) is an excellent way to avoid pointless actions and quickly transition to more important spells or maneuvers.
  3. Arena Target Control:
    • Fear (Warlock): Use it for quick neutralization of opponents.
    • Polymorph (Mage): A great way to temporarily remove one opponent from combat.
    • Cyclone (Druid): An effective control method that doesn’t require dispelling.
    • Hex (Shaman): Another powerful control that can be quickly applied thanks to side buttons.
  4. Stun and incap’s:
    • Storm Bolt (Warrior): A quick stun that can interrupt casts or immobilize the opponent.
    • Imprison (Demon Hunter): A great way to quickly stop the enemy, especially during their strong abilities’ activation.
    • Paralysis (Monk): Useful for temporarily neutralizing a target, especially when needing to interrupt a cast.
    • Scatter Shot (Hunter): Use this ability to disorient the opponent and prepare other actions.

5. Setting Recommendations

Set up your side buttons so that frequently used spells and abilities are within easy reach. This will allow you to react instantly to changing situations in the arena. For example, assign dispel or stopcast to buttons closer to your thumb, and distribute control abilities across the remaining buttons for quick access when needed.

These bindings will help you react faster in combat, effectively use control, and quickly switch between targets. Your reflexes will become even sharper, allowing you to dominate the arena while maintaining calm and control over the situation

6. Bonus

Here’s my experience! You might want to try something similar for your class. I arrived at these methods through trial and error. So, since my favorite is the Logitech G600 (you’ll learn about it at the very end of the article!), I’ll show you how I see it from my perspective.

G600 Binds example

So, I divided the mouse buttons by numbers. I recommend assigning macros like stopcast to Button 1, so you can instantly cancel a cast, as well as warrior or warlock spell reflection. Buttons 2 and 3 can be used for dispels on your allies or abilities like Intervene for a warrior. Buttons 4, 5, and 6 can be set for control abilities targeting arena opponents, such as Cyclone from a druid, Polymorph from a mage, or Fear from a warlock. Button 7 can be used for buff abilities like the priest’s stamina buff or other useful buffs, and Button 8 for movement abilities like Leap, Charge, or Blink for a mage.

7. Conclusion

In the end, choosing a mouse for World of Warcraft is not just about comfort but a strategic decision that impacts your gaming experience and effectiveness. Mice with side buttons provide a massive advantage in the arena, and once you master such a mouse, you’ll never want to go back to a regular one. I hope my experience helps you make the right choice. Good luck in the game, and may your clicks always be accurate!

So, after 15 years of my gaming journey and countless experiments with different models, I still remained loyal to my Logitech G600. This mouse has been my favorite for many years, and I continue to use it today! It combines comfort, reliability, and the optimal number of side buttons, making it irreplaceable in the arena. The Logitech G600 has been with me through countless battles and still impresses me with its functionality and quality. If you’re looking for a mouse that won’t let you down—the Logitech G600 is definitely worth your attention!
