Outlaw Rogue Overview

As the name suggests, Outlaws are a notorious crew of gangsters, pirates, and other rogues willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals. Cloaked in shadows, Outlaw Rogues engage in combat employing all the dirty tricks in their arsenal.

Like all Rogue specializations, Outlaw utilizes Energy to execute their abilities. These abilities can be divided into Generators, which build Combo Points, and Spenders, which consume those Combo Points for powerful attacks. Interestingly, Rogues refer to their spenders as Finishing Moves.

Outlaw is characterized by its fast-paced playstyle, where players can rapidly execute a variety of abilities to deal direct damage. A hallmark of this specialization is the iconic Blade Flurry mechanic, which allows you to deal AoE damage while maintaining your standard attack rotation, rather than relying solely on special AoE abilities. Roll the Bones adds a layer of complexity to the gameplay, which can be somewhat challenging for newcomers. However, don’t let this deter you from enjoying this exciting specialization.

Outlaw Rogue Changes In The War Within

The Outlaw Rogue has undergone a significant transformation in the latest update, The War Within, featuring major changes to both class and specialization talent trees. Firstly, it’s essential to highlight the new WoW Outlaw Rogue talent tree — Hero Talent Tree. This new system adds an extra layer of customization and flexibility, enabling players to fine-tune their abilities with greater precision.

Changes to The Existing Abilities And Talents

In the The War Within expansion, the Outlaw Rogue talents in WoW have undergone significant revisions, including a complete rework of several key abilities. The ability Acrobatic Strikes no longer increases melee attack range; instead, it boosts auto-attack damage and movement speed. Additionally, Cut to the Chase has now become a baseline ability available to all Rogue specs, while Subterfuge has been adjusted to last for 6 seconds and is now a 2-point talent within the class tree.

Within the specialization tree, Adrenaline Rush no longer independently reduces the global cooldown (GCD) but now scales with Haste, making Haste a more valuable stat for Outlaw Rogues. The ability Count the Odds now provides consistent benefits both inside and outside of stealth, while Underhanded Upper Hand no longer affects Slice and Dice, which now automatically extends through Cut to the Chase.

The removal of Shadow Dance from the class tree, replaced by an additional charge of Vanish, alongside the removal of Sepsis, clearly indicates that reliance on stealth is no longer the primary focus for Outlaw Rogues.

Basics of Outlaw Rogue Gameplay

  • Solid Defensive Cooldowns: Feint  is effective against AOE damage. Evasion  provides exceptional protection from physical attacks. Cloak of Shadows  grants complete immunity to magic damage and effects. Crimson Vial  is an efficient heal, costing only 20 Energy. Cheat Death helps you avoid occasional fatalities.
  • Exceptional Mobility: Grappling Hook  is a versatile travel ability that uses a ground target option. It operates without a target, similar to the Warrior’s Leap . Shadowstep  teleports you behind your target, enhancing your mobility options. Sprint  is a standard ability across all rogue specializations. Fleet Footed is a passive ability that increases your movement speed.
  • Effective Crowd Control: Cheap Shot  delivers a 4-second stun, but requires you to be in Stealth . Kidney Shot  is a finishing move that can stun your target for up to 6 seconds. Sap  requires stealth and can disable a target not currently in combat. Blind  is a combat variant of Sap  that does not require Stealth but can be broken by damage.

Outlaw Rogue Rotation

Playing an Outlaw Rogue in WoW involves a unique approach. You should utilize a range of abilities as they become available. At the same time, you need to generate and spend Combo Points. To simplify the Outlaw Rogue rotation, we can outline a specific order of operations. Remember, missing your priority ability will result in a loss of DPS.

Offensive Cooldowns

Spell Cooldown Description
Adrenaline Rush 3 min Increases Energy regeneration rate and attack speed by 20% for 20 seconds.
Blade Flurry 25 sec Strikes up to 4 nearby enemies for 40% of the damage done to your primary target for 12 seconds.
Killing Spree 2 min Teleports you to an enemy and strikes for high damage over 2 seconds, prioritizing targets with Between the Eyes debuff.
Dreadblades 1,5 min Empowers your next melee ability to deal additional Shadow damage, but causes you to take a portion of damage dealt as backlash for 12 seconds.

Defensive Cooldowns

Spell Cooldown Description
Cloak of Shadows 2 min Provides immunity to magic damage and harmful effects for 5 seconds.
Evasion 2 min Increases your dodge chance by 100% for 10 seconds.
Riposte 2 min It increases your parry chance by 100% for 10 seconds and allows you to parry spells.
Feint 15 sec Reduces damage taken from area-of-effect attacks by 50% for 6 seconds.

Outlaw Rogue Stats

  • Agility;
  • Versatility;
  • Haste;
  • Critical Strike;
  • Mastery.

Agility is our primary stat, providing Attack Power that increases the damage of your abilities. Versatility enhances your damage output while also reducing damage taken. Critical Strike boosts your chance to deal double damage with attacks and enhances Improved Between the Eyes when it critically hits. Haste increases your attack speed, Energy regeneration, and the frequency of Main Gauche procs, while also reducing the Global Cooldown (GCD) during Adrenaline Rush . Mastery is the least important stat; it increases the damage of Mastery: Main Gauche procs, which can trigger Combat Potency to boost Energy regeneration.

Outlaw Rogue Leveling

Having access to Blade Flurry early on, along with Evasion and a cheap, easy heal later, should make leveling up smoother.Generally speaking, Outlaw Rogues have fairly weak basic cooldowns, but they compensate by dealing consistently high overall damage. Whenever you have Evasion and Cloak of Shadows ready, you can take on multiple targets, provided you can defeat them quickly—which shouldn’t be a problem.

You can choose to level through dungeons or quests. Simply queue for random or timewalking dungeons to gain significant XP, or opt for the Draenor/Legion timeline at Chromie for questing. Alternatively, you can request Power Leveling, and our trained professionals will help you level up faster than you could on your own.
