Modern Warfare 4 Maps List

This is the full list of announced multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare 4, sorted by mode and release date. Twenty named battlegrounds are playable from day one, and one more follows shortly after. Kill Block counts as a single entry in the list even though its layout keeps changing, because it is one modular environment rather than a set of separate maps.

Reading the table, the split is easy to remember: 12 Core maps, 3 Ground War maps, 4 Gunfight arenas and Kill Block on launch day, then Shipment on October 27. Core 6v6 is where most of the roster lives, so that is where you will spend the bulk of your time when you want to learn the map pool.

Note: the game is still new and these are the announced details. Maps, playlists and dates can be adjusted with patches, so treat the table as the current picture and not as a promise.

Your rank decides how many loadout options you have while you explore all of this. If you would rather reach the unlocks you want before settling into a multiplayer routine, our Modern Warfare 4 Soldier Rank boost exists for exactly that.

Modern Warfare 4 Core Maps

The standard Modern Warfare 4 rotation mixes industrial yards, dense city blocks, rooftops and even a ferry. Six of the launch maps were already playable in the beta, so returning players will meet a few familiar faces next to the new ones. The complete Core 6v6 launch roster looks like this:

  • Cachette
  • Coal
  • Lithium
  • Lotus
  • Mumbai
  • Munition
  • Nautical
  • Reactor U92
  • Rooftops
  • Sentry
  • Silkworm
  • Transit 213

Below is every Core map with its setting and the details that matter for how you move. Some maps have a lot of announced detail, others only a short description, and we stick to what has actually been shown.

Cachette

Cachette sits beside a French railway station. A wine storage area and a garage hide an armory, so the map has a clear sense of place. Containments, rooftops and upper floors give you alternatives to the central ground route. The sensible habit is to look for the higher routes first and only then commit to the middle of the map.

Coal

Coal moves the action to a mountainous Soviet coal-processing site. The ruined landscape is defined by a collapsed smokestack, industrial buildings and a river filled with slurry. Those three landmarks are good reference points when you are learning where a fight is coming from.

Lithium

Lithium takes place inside a Mexican refinery in the Sierra mountains. Its signature feature is the garage doors: you can always squeeze under them, even when they are not fully open, which makes them a distinctive way to enter a building. Practicing that movement early is a good first exercise on this map.

Tip: a rifle that feels great in the open may want different attachments on Lithium than it does in Lotus, where buildings dominate. If you want your attachment options ready before you spend matches refining them, weapon leveling can save you that grind.

Lotus

Lotus is a Korean fishing village that has been damaged by an amphibious assault. A market, a hostel and a boathouse give the map its landmarks. A pipe at the boathouse leads up to an upper floor, and the main street offers longer sightlines than the interiors do, so expect a different style of fight outside than inside.

Mumbai

Mumbai is built around a fugitive’s hideout in a crowded residential district. A Victorian market and a railway cutting through the neighborhood establish the setting, which makes the map feel like a lived-in city rather than a military site.

Munition

Munition drops you into an active North Korean command facility. The ammunition depot, the hangars, the monitoring rooms and an elevated bridge connecting parts of the base shape the whole installation, and the bridge in particular is worth keeping in mind as a connector between areas.

Nautical

Nautical puts 6v6 combat aboard a South Korean ferry that is leaving port at dawn. Debris covers the decks, and fires burn along the bow and the starboard side. It is the one Core map where the whole fight happens on a vessel.

Reactor U92

Reactor U92 shows a Korean nuclear facility in the middle of a meltdown. A damaged control room and a boiling containment pool are the most distinctive environmental features, and both make handy mental markers when you call out positions.

Rooftops

Rooftops stretches across the snow-covered Hotel Times West in New York. A greenhouse, mechanical platforms, a patio and a laundry room give players recognizable landmarks. Exterior walkways add routes around the roofline, so check the nearby access points before you settle into a firing position.

Sentry

Sentry covers a North Korean military base in whiteout conditions. The installation is made up of a command center, damaged barracks, a maintenance garage, a generator room and a substation, which gives you plenty of named spots to talk about with your squad.

Silkworm

Silkworm is close urban fighting in a South Korean shopping district, complete with a subway entrance and narrow side streets. Its parked cars also support mantle-slide movement. Practice keeping your aim steady through that transition before you use it to challenge a street crossing.

Transit 213

Transit 213 turns an abandoned Indian bus station into a small battleground. A garage and a gas station stand on the sides of the crowded space. The buses provide cover, but because they sit in the middle they also draw grenades. Do not stay at one bus after an encounter; move on.

Modern Warfare 4 Ground War Maps

Ground War is the large-scale mode, mixing infantry, vehicles and objectives across much bigger combat spaces than Core 6v6. During the beta, Combat Outpost used 24v24 teams, and captured positions let your side push further forward. Three locations make up the announced Ground War lineup:

  • Imjin Farmland
  • Wolves Stadium
  • Forest

Once the routes start to feel familiar, your next goal may well be a Prestige milestone. If you would rather not repeat the whole climb yourself, our Prestige leveling service covers that part while you plan your next multiplayer goals.

Imjin Farmland

Imjin Farmland is open farmland near Hajin, with watercourses, narrow roads, several farms and a big rice mill. The mill stands above the rest of the landscape, so it is a key point to fight over. Use covered approaches when you advance on the industrial buildings, and be ready for close-range fights once you get there.

Wolves Stadium

Wolves Stadium brings Ground War into a densely built urban area with multi-storey buildings, tunnels, rooftops and hilly terrain all around. The amphitheater is a defensible position, and ascenders and climbing let you reach higher ground. Find a safe way between objectives before you cross the major roads again and again.

Forest

Forest joins the Ground War roster on October 23. It was not part of the beta, which only offered two Ground War maps. Its inclusion is confirmed, but a detailed layout and named tactical positions have not been announced yet, so there is nothing reliable to say about its routes for now.

Note: Forest is the only Ground War map without a detailed description. Check back once the game is out and the first matches reveal how it plays.

Modern Warfare 4 Gunfight Maps

The dedicated Gunfight lineup has four arenas, and the separate Kill Block experience sits alongside them. All four arenas are available from October 23. This is the announced list:

Gunfight arena Release date
Smuggler October 23
NYC October 23
Cafe October 23
Library October 23

Honestly, there is very little detail on these four so far. We would rather tell you that than invent routes and spawn spots for you. Here is what has been confirmed.

Smuggler

Smuggler joins the dedicated Gunfight roster on October 23. Its tactical layout and its named combat positions have not been announced.

NYC

NYC is a separate Gunfight arena in the October 23 launch lineup. Detailed sightlines and spawn positions remain undisclosed.

Cafe

Cafe is one of the four dedicated Gunfight arenas available at launch. Its detailed layout has not been revealed.

Library

Library completes the dedicated Gunfight lineup for October 23. Its routes and tactical positions are still unannounced.

Because every one of these arenas is new information, the best preparation is flexibility: go in expecting to read the space in the first round rather than arriving with a fixed plan.

Modern Warfare 4 Kill Block Explained

Kill Block is a modular combat environment inside the West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility. Each layout is assembled from two outer sections and one central section, and more than 500 configurations are possible at launch. In practice that means you are unlikely to see the same arrangement twice in a row.

On this battleground, Gunfight comes in 3v3 and 10v10 variants. Teams swap sides after every round, while the layout and the shared randomized loadout change every two rounds. That rhythm gives both teams a turn on each side before the next configuration arrives, so a bad first layout is not a lost match.

Tip: since the loadout is shared and randomized, Kill Block rewards adaptability more than a single favorite build. Use the first round of a new layout to learn where the two outer sections and the central section connect, then play the second round with that knowledge.

If you would rather have someone who already knows these modes play alongside you while you learn, you can look at Pro for Hire.

Modern Warfare 4 Shipment Release Date

Shipment arrives in Modern Warfare 4 on October 27, four days after multiplayer launches. The returning container arena is the first named map addition with a confirmed post-launch date, and it is the twenty-first named map in the roster.

The preview shows its recognizable container-yard setting. A dedicated Shipment 24/7 playlist has not been confirmed, and details of how the MW4 version differs from the older one remain undisclosed. Its later date also means it is not part of the twelve-map Core launch selection, even though it is listed as a Core 6v6 map.

Warning: do not plan around Shipment being available on launch day. It is not. If a small container-yard map is the reason you are waiting, the date to remember is October 27.

Modern Warfare 4 Beta Maps

The beta included six Core maps, two Ground War locations and Kill Block. If you played it, those familiar environments are a good place to relearn movement and weapon handling before you branch out into the rest of the roster. These were the beta maps in each multiplayer category:

Beta category Maps
Core 6v6 Cachette, Lithium, Lotus, Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213
Ground War Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium
Modular Gunfight Kill Block

Compared with the launch roster, the beta covered half of the 12 Core maps and two of the three Ground War maps. Forest, the four dedicated Gunfight arenas and the other six Core maps are the ones that will be genuinely new to beta players. The Mobility Course, which is meant for movement training, is not a regular match map, so practice there if you want to warm up your movement before queuing.
