Key Takeaways
Leatherworking is one of the primary crafting professions in WoW Forever, the Classic+ version of the game that launches on 4 November 2026. It turns leather, hides and scales into Leather and Mail armor, armor kits, ammo pouches and camp objects. The launch brings 270 new recipes, six new armor sets built around different roles, and 82 recipes that you buy with Merchant’s Favor. Below you will find where each rank is trained, which specialization is worth picking, a complete 1 to 300 route with the full materials list, the strongest recipes at 300, and the Legacy perks that speed up your skill gains. Keep in mind that the data comes from the beta, so numbers may change at launch.
- Skill cap: Leatherworking tops out at 300, and the Artisan rank is taught by Drakk Stonehand in Aerie Peak, The Hinterlands, for the Alliance and by Hahrana Ironhide in Camp Mojache, Feralas, for the Horde.
- Effort: the whole 1 to 300 climb takes around 455 crafts, and Skinning covers most of the leather and hides you will need.
- Specialization: the 225-300 route works without any specialization, but Tribal Leatherworking also lets you use Frostsaber Boots for skill-ups from 250.
- Merchant’s Favor: 82 recipes are sold for Merchant’s Favor, including the new role sets such as Brawler’s Leather Belt and armor kits such as Mystic Rugged Armor Kit.
- Best partner: pair it with Skinning, because nearly every recipe eats leather, hides or scales.
WoW Forever Leatherworking Overview
Leatherworking in WoW Forever makes gear for everyone who wears Leather or Mail, plus armor kits, ammo pouches and camp objects that any class can use. The profession has 511 recipes in total. A large share of the new ones are role sets, which means you can keep your gear fresh between dungeon drops instead of waiting for luck.
What Changed for Leatherworking in WoW Forever
The biggest change is the batch of new armor sets, which hand every Leather and Mail role its own crafted gear starting from skill 60. Many Classic recipes also turn yellow or gray sooner than they used to, so an old Classic leveling route can leave you crafting items that no longer award skill points. Here is what is different:
- New role sets: the Brawler’s, Defender’s, Trapper’s, Wisdom’s, Stormrider’s and Totemic sets begin with belts at 60 skill, then continue with gloves (75), boots (85), hoods (100), tunics (110) and leggings (125). Helms such as Brawler’s Leather Helm and Wisdom’s Leather Helm are taught by trainers at 130 skill.
- Later armor families: recipes for the Mender’s, Prowler’s, Skulker’s, Skirmisher’s, Skycaller’s, Stalker’s and Warden’s sets show up from around 150 skill, and several of them are Mail pieces for Hunters and Shamans.
- New armor kits: Forceful Armor Kits add Attack Power and Mystic Armor Kits add Spell Power. Each type comes in four ranks, at 80, 135, 185 and 235 skill, and the top ranks need reagents from Alchemy and Enchanting. The Forceful Rugged Armor Kit, for example, calls for Dream Dust and Elixirs of Greater Strength.
- Scarce materials: Pristine Leather, Pristine Hide and Pristine Scale are new reagents behind many of the new sets, so hold on to them instead of vendoring them. Pristine Leather drops from low-level Beasts and can also be bought on the Black Market Auction House.
- Merchant’s Favor recipes: 82 recipes are sold by trade camp vendors. Once you reach 300 Leatherworking, you can buy Leatherworking Certification for 1,000 Merchant’s Favor, which unlocks the account-wide title “the Leatherworker”.
Note: a lot of this content is brand new and the figures were gathered during the beta. Treat exact stats, skill thresholds and costs as the state of play before launch, and expect small adjustments.
WoW Forever Best Classes for Leatherworking
The classes that gain the most are Rogue, Druid, Hunter and Shaman, simply because they can wear the Leather and Mail armor that the profession produces. Each of them has new role sets that match their specs, so the crafting gives them gear for the way they actually play:
| Class | Sets that fit | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Rogue | Brawler’s and Skulker’s | Both patterns give crafted Leather pieces with physical damage stats, and Leather is the armor type Rogues wear for the whole game. |
| Druid | Seven of the new role sets | Brawler’s and Prowler’s suit physical builds, Defender’s and Warden’s suit tanking, and Wisdom’s, Mender’s and Stormrider’s suit healing and spell damage. |
| Hunter | Trapper’s, then Stalker’s | Trapper’s Leather is the starting set, and the Stalker’s Mail pieces take over once the class learns Mail at level 40. Quivers and ammo pouches from Leatherworkers are used by Hunters as well. |
| Shaman | Totemic, Skycaller’s, Skirmisher’s | Totemic gear gives hybrid stats, Skycaller’s and Skirmisher’s pieces suit caster and physical builds, and the class also switches to Mail at level 40. |
Some of the new crafted armor is Bind on Pickup. That means the profession has to sit on the very character who will wear the gear, because those items can never be bought from another player. Other classes still get something out of it, since armor kits and ammo pouches can be used by anyone.
WoW Forever Leatherworking Camp Objects
Leatherworking camp objects are placed next to a Campfire, and every camping feature shares a one-hour cooldown. The Camp Tent gives Rested experience to players sitting close by, while the other two objects are crafting stations that also carry the tent bonus. These are all three camp objects:
| Camp Object | Skill | Recipe Source | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Camp Tent | 20 | Leatherworking trainer | Players sitting nearby gain Rested experience up to 5% of a level |
| Tanning Rack | 140 | Blueprint: Tanning Rack, dropped by Razorclaw the Butcher in Shadowfang Keep | Camp Tent effect, allows crafting certain reagents |
| Sewing Machine | 300 | Blueprint: Sewing Machine, source not yet confirmed | Camp Tent effect, required for advanced recipes |
The Camp Tent costs only five Light Leather, so you can set one up in the very first zones. A Tanning Rack needs five Medium Leather, three Fine Thread and two Simple Wood, although the blueprint has a low drop rate and may take a few runs. The Sewing Machine wants an Undeath Engine, five Rugged Leather and one Rune Thread. No recipe that requires it has been listed yet, so there is no rush to build one.
How to Learn Leatherworking in WoW Forever
You can learn Leatherworking from a trainer in any capital city, and the Apprentice rank is also taught in several starting villages and on Zephras Isle. The first rank has no level requirement, so a fresh character can pick it up right away. Expert and Artisan are different: only one trainer per faction teaches each of them, so those two trips are worth planning in advance.
WoW Forever Leatherworking Ranks
Each rank raises your maximum skill by 75 points, and every rank after Apprentice asks for both skill and character level. You are allowed to train the next rank before you hit your current cap, so there is no reason to wait until you are stuck at 75 or 150. The ranks and their requirements look like this:
| Rank | Max Skill | Requirement | Training Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | 75 | No skill or level requirement | 10 copper |
| Journeyman | 150 | 50 skill, level 10 | 5 silver |
| Expert | 225 | 125 skill, level 20 | 50 silver |
| Artisan | 300 | 200 skill, level 35 | 5 gold |
WoW Forever Leatherworking Trainers
The trainers below teach each rank, and Journeyman comes from a different person than the one who taught you Apprentice. Apprentice trainers are only listed for the main cities and a few villages, so you may well find another one closer to where you start. The first table covers the Alliance:
| Rank | Alliance trainers |
|---|---|
| Apprentice | Randal Worth (Stormwind City), Gretta Finespindle (Ironforge), Darianna (Darnassus), Adele Fielder (Goldshire) |
| Journeyman | Simon Tanner (Stormwind City), Fimble Finespindle (Ironforge), Faldron (Darnassus), Aayndia Floralwind (Astranaar, Ashenvale) |
| Expert | Telonis (Darnassus) |
| Artisan | Drakk Stonehand (Aerie Peak, The Hinterlands) |
The Horde trainers are listed here, together with the trainers of Zephras Isle, where the Apprentice and Journeyman ranks have their own teachers and Expert and Artisan have none:
| Rank | Horde trainers | Zephras Isle |
|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | Kamari (Orgrimmar), Dan Golthas (Undercity), Mak (Thunder Bluff), Chaw Stronghide (Bloodhoof Village) | Indari Sunseam (Shen’dar Village) |
| Journeyman | Karolek (Orgrimmar), Arthur Moore (Undercity), Tarn (Thunder Bluff), Krulmoo Fullmoon (Camp Taurajo), Brawn (Grom’gol, Stranglethorn Vale) | Emerii Tallgust (Valanaar) |
| Expert | Una (Thunder Bluff) | None |
| Artisan | Hahrana Ironhide (Camp Mojache, Feralas) | None |
Artisan trainers are also the only source of some recipes, for example Nightscape Pants, which regular Expert trainers do not teach. Drakk Stonehand stands inside Wildhammer Keep, while Hahrana Ironhide waits in the main building across from the inn, so the trip is easy once you arrive.
Warning: Artisan Leatherworking needs a level 35 character. A low-level crafter has to gain character levels before training it, which is why many players level the character first and gather leather on the way. If yours is still far from that mark, our WoW Forever powerleveling can carry the character there while you focus on skinning and crafting.
WoW Forever Leatherworking Specializations
There are three specializations: Dragonscale Leatherworking, Elemental Leatherworking and Tribal Leatherworking. Each one unlocks recipes that a regular Leatherworker cannot learn. The specialization quests require a level 40 character. Classic data lists 225 Leatherworking as the profession requirement, but this still needs confirmation in WoW Forever. Finishing one quest locks you out of the other two, so every character can hold only one specialization. Here is the overview:
| Specialization | Focus | Alliance Trainer | Horde Trainer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragonscale Leatherworking | Mail armor for Hunters and Shamans | Peter Galen (Azshara) | Thorkaf Dragoneye (Badlands) |
| Elemental Leatherworking | Leather armor for physical damage | Sarah Tanner (Searing Gorge) | Brumn Winterhoof (Arathi Highlands) |
| Tribal Leatherworking | Leather armor for Druids and Rogues | Caryssia Moonhunter (Feralas) | Se’Jib (Stranglethorn Vale) |
Each trainer asks for a set of quest items, which you should gather before you travel. The list below is the same for both factions:
| Specialization | Quest Items |
|---|---|
| Dragonscale Leatherworking | 2 Tough Scorpid Breastplates, 2 Tough Scorpid Gloves, 10 Worn Dragonscales |
| Elemental Leatherworking | 2 Heart of Fire, 2 Globe of Water, 2 Core of Earth, 2 Breath of Wind |
| Tribal Leatherworking | Wild Leather Vest, Wild Leather Helmet |
Specialization recipes are marked on the pattern itself. Pattern: Frostsaber Boots requires Tribal Leatherworking, Black Dragonscale Breastplate requires Dragonscale Leatherworking, and Molten Helm requires Elemental Leatherworking. The 1-300 route further down works without a specialization, although Tribal Leatherworkers can also level with Frostsaber Boots from 250 skill.
Tip: choose by armor type, not by the shiniest recipe name. If you wear Mail, Dragonscale is the natural fit, and if you wear Leather, Elemental and Tribal are the ones to compare. Because the choice cannot be undone, read the recipe list for your favorite spec before you hand in the quest items.
Best Professions to Pair with Leatherworking in WoW Forever
The best partner is Skinning, because almost every recipe uses leather, hides or scales. You will kill plenty of Beasts while questing, and a Skinner turns them into Light Leather and Medium Leather without spending anything at the Auction House. There is also no racial bonus that affects Leatherworking in WoW Forever, so any race can take it without a penalty. This is how the other professions fit in:
| Profession | Why It Fits Leatherworking |
|---|---|
| Skinning | Covers the leather, hides and Heavy Scorpid Scale for the whole leveling route |
| Engineering | Crafts the Salt Shaker, which turns Deeprock Salt into Refined Deeprock Salt for Cured Rugged Hide |
| Alchemy | Provides Elixir of Minor Agility, Elixir of Defense and potions for the Forceful and Mystic armor kits |
| Enchanting | Supplies the dusts used in Forceful and Mystic armor kits |
Skinning is the clear winner. Engineering only matters if you want your own salt for Cured Rugged Hide, and the Salt Shaker has a cooldown of almost three days, so many Leatherworkers simply buy Refined Deeprock Salt from an Engineer instead. Alchemy and Enchanting are optional too, but they become more attractive once you start making the Forceful and Mystic kits, since friends or guildmates with those professions can supply the reagents.
If you would rather skip the gathering part, our WoW Forever Skinning service raises your Skinning to 300, so you can skin every Beast you meet up to level 60.

Making Gold with Leatherworking in WoW Forever
Gold from Leatherworking comes from three places: armor kits, crafted gear, and the leather needed for supply crates. Armor kits are used by every class, because they permanently add Armor, Attack Power or Spell Power to the chest, legs, hands or feet. The Forceful and Mystic versions also need reagents from other crafters, which keeps their supply lower than that of a plain Rugged Armor Kit, and a limited supply usually helps the price.
Waylaid supply crates are a second source of demand, since several of them ask for leather goods. Players who fill the crates need stacks of Light Leather, Medium Leather, Thick Leather and Rugged Leather, as well as crafted items such as Guardian Gloves and Rugged Armor Kit. Crafted gear is the least reliable seller, because players replace armor far less often than they use up consumables. Even so, Bind on Equip pieces for leveling characters and Mail items for Hunters and Shamans can still move well.
Before you craft anything expensive, compare its price with the value of the materials on your own server. Sometimes selling Pristine Leather or Rugged Leather as it is brings more gold than the finished piece.
Training, patterns and materials all cost money early on. If you want to spend your evenings crafting rather than farming, you can pick up WoW Forever gold and keep the workshop running. Just remember that crafting only pays when you sell what the server actually wants, so keep an eye on the market before every batch.
For a wider comparison of gold methods, see our WoW Forever gold guide.
WoW Forever Leatherworking Leveling 1-300
Taking Leatherworking from 1 to 300 needs around 455 crafts with the route below, and the exact count depends on how lucky your skill-ups are. A recipe always gives a point while it is orange, often while it is yellow and only rarely once it turns green. Two Legacy perks help here: Working Overtime raises the chance of a skill-up by up to 20%, and Dedicated Study adds one point to your lowest profession once every 23 hours. Because the figures come from the beta, numbers may change at launch, so double-check the recipe colors as you go.
WoW Forever Leatherworking Materials List
The materials list is split at 225 skill, because the later leather comes from level 45+ zones. Threads, Salt and dyes are sold by trade supply vendors for a few coins, while leather and hides come from Skinning or from other players.
Every leather type can also be made from the one below it, which is handy when a stack runs short. Three Ruined Leather Scraps make Light Leather, and four Light Leather make Medium Leather. Further up, five Medium Leather make Heavy Leather. Six Heavy Leather make Thick Leather, while six Thick Leather make Rugged Leather. The full shopping list for the route is here:
| Material | 1–225 | 225–300 | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ruined Leather Scraps | 150 | — | Skinning |
| Light Leather | 387 | — | Skinning |
| Medium Leather | 174 | — | Skinning |
| Heavy Leather | 238 | — | Skinning |
| Thick Leather | 250 | ~224 | Skinning |
| Rugged Leather | — | ~902 | Skinning |
| Heavy Hide | 60 | — | Skinning |
| Thick Hide | 13 | — | Skinning |
| Rugged Hide | — | ~4 | Skinning |
| Heavy Scorpid Scale | — | ~360 | Skinning |
| Deeprock Salt | 13 | — | Drops / Auction House |
| Refined Deeprock Salt | — | ~4 | Salt Shaker (Engineering) |
| Salt | 180 | — | Vendor |
| Coarse Thread | 130 | — | Vendor |
| Fine Thread | 60 | — | Vendor |
| Silken Thread | 164 | ~64 | Vendor |
| Rune Thread | — | ~100 | Vendor |
| Green Dye | 16 | — | Vendor |
| Black Dye | — | ~51 | Vendor |
| Runecloth | — | ~80 | Humanoid drops / Auction House |
| Iron Buckle | 10 | — | Blacksmithing |
| Elixir of Minor Agility | 20 | — | Alchemy |
| Elixir of Defense | 13 | — | Alchemy |
These are average amounts, so plan on farming or buying about 10% extra as a cushion. For Light Leather and Medium Leather, the quantities already count the pieces you craft yourself along the route. The Thick Hide and Deeprock Salt go into 13 Cured Thick Hide, which you craft at the trainer before the Thick Leather Ammo Pouch step. In the 225-300 column, the amounts already include 4 Cured Rugged Hide crafts for the Heavy Scorpid Helm step.
Tip: the biggest bill by far is Rugged Leather in the second half, so start stockpiling it while you are still in the 150-225 range, when each Beast you skin is a free piece of it. If you would rather skip the farming, our WoW Forever profession kits deliver the full set of materials for a crafting profession, together with a step-by-step crafting guide for reaching 300.
WoW Forever Leatherworking 1-75
The first 75 points use recipes you already know plus one Apprentice trainer recipe, so the whole stretch costs nothing but leather and thread. This is the route:
| Skill | Recipe | Crafts | Reagents | Recipe Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-36 | Light Leather | ~50 | Ruined Leather Scraps (3) | Known |
| 36-45 | Light Armor Kit | ~14 | Light Leather (1) | Known |
| 45-49 | Handstitched Leather Boots | ~6 | Light Leather (2), Coarse Thread (1) | Known |
| 49-75 | Embossed Leather Gloves | ~27 | Light Leather (3), Coarse Thread (2) | Trainer |
Ruined Leather Scraps and Light Leather drop from Beasts in the starting zones when you skin them, while Coarse Thread is sold by trade supply vendors. Train Journeyman as soon as you hit 50 skill and level 10, so that the gloves keep giving points past 75.
WoW Forever Leatherworking 75-150
From 75 to 150 you move on to Medium Leather and the first cured hides. These are the recipes for this range:
| Skill | Recipe | Crafts | Reagents | Recipe Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 75-85 | Medium Leather | ~30 | Light Leather (4) | Trainer |
| 85-106 | Fine Leather Belt | ~35 | Light Leather (6), Coarse Thread (2) | Trainer |
| 106-125 | Nimble Leather Gloves | ~20 | Medium Leather (6), Elixir of Minor Agility (1), Fine Thread (1) | Trainer |
| 125-145 | Cured Heavy Hide | ~60 | Heavy Hide (1), Salt (3) | Trainer |
| 145-150 | Hillman’s Leather Gloves | ~6 | Medium Leather (14), Fine Thread (4) | Trainer |
The Elixir of Minor Agility for the Nimble Leather Gloves comes from an Alchemist or the Auction House. Keep every Cured Heavy Hide you make between 125 and 145, because the green items and Guardian Gloves use them as reagents later. Expert is taught at 125 skill and level 20 by Telonis in Darnassus for the Alliance and by Una in Thunder Bluff for the Horde, so plan that trip while you are crafting the hides.
WoW Forever Leatherworking 150-225
The 150-225 stretch is still done with trainer recipes. It uses Heavy Leather first and switches to Thick Leather after 197 skill. This is the route:
| Skill | Recipe | Crafts | Reagents | Recipe Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 150-159 | Green Leather Belt | ~10 | Cured Heavy Hide (1), Heavy Leather (5), Fine Thread (1), Green Dye (1), Iron Buckle (1) | Trainer |
| 159-165 | Green Leather Bracers | ~6 | Cured Heavy Hide (2), Heavy Leather (6), Green Dye (1), Fine Thread (1) | Trainer |
| 165-197 | Guardian Gloves | ~38 | Heavy Leather (4), Cured Heavy Hide (1), Silken Thread (1) | Trainer |
| 197-213 | Nightscape Headband | ~24 | Thick Leather (5), Silken Thread (2) | Trainer |
| 213-225 | Thick Leather Ammo Pouch | ~13 | Thick Leather (10), Cured Thick Hide (1), Elixir of Defense (1), Silken Thread (6) | Trainer |
The Iron Buckle for the Green Leather Belt is made by Blacksmiths, while Green Dye and Silken Thread are sold by vendors. Before the Thick Leather Ammo Pouch step, 13 Cured Thick Hide have to be crafted at the trainer from Thick Hide and Deeprock Salt. Artisan needs 200 skill and a level 35 character, and Drakk Stonehand and Hahrana Ironhide also teach Nightscape Pants for the next step.
WoW Forever Leatherworking 225-300
The last 75 points begin with an Artisan trainer recipe and then move to vendor and drop patterns, none of which need a specialization. The route is:
| Skill | Recipe | Crafts | Reagents |
|---|---|---|---|
| 225-235 | Nightscape Pants | ~16 | Thick Leather (14), Silken Thread (4) |
| 235-255 | Wicked Leather Gauntlets | ~21 | Rugged Leather (8), Black Dye (1), Rune Thread (1) |
| 255-280 | Heavy Scorpid Gauntlets | ~33 | Rugged Leather (6), Heavy Scorpid Scale (8), Rune Thread (1) |
| 280-290 | Wicked Leather Headband | ~30 | Rugged Leather (12), Black Dye (1), Rune Thread (1) |
| 290-295 | Runic Leather Headband | ~8 | Rugged Leather (14), Runecloth (10), Rune Thread (1) |
| 295-300 | Heavy Scorpid Helm | ~8 | Rugged Leather (8), Heavy Scorpid Scale (12), Cured Rugged Hide (1), Rune Thread (1) |
Where each of those patterns comes from is the tricky part of this stretch, so here it is in one place:
| Recipe | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Nightscape Pants | Artisan trainer |
| Wicked Leather Gauntlets | Leonard Porter (Alliance) or Werg Thickblade (Horde) |
| Heavy Scorpid Gauntlets | Pattern drop from Blackrock Soldier (Burning Steppes) |
| Wicked Leather Headband | Pattern drop from Jadefire Trickster (Felwood) |
| Runic Leather Headband | Jase Farlane (Eastern Plaguelands) |
| Heavy Scorpid Helm | Zannok Hidepiercer (Silithus) |
The vendor patterns for Wicked Leather Gauntlets, Runic Leather Headband and Heavy Scorpid Helm are sold in limited stock, so buy them early in case another Leatherworker snaps them up first. Zannok Hidepiercer sells the Heavy Scorpid Helm pattern for 2 gold and 50 silver. Heavy Scorpid Gauntlets and Wicked Leather Headband come from pattern drops, so check the Auction House if the mobs refuse to give them to you.
Tribal Leatherworking players have a shortcut: they can use Frostsaber Boots from Qia in Everlook for the 255-280 step in place of Heavy Scorpid Gauntlets, as both recipes stay orange until 270 skill. Before the last step, craft 4 Cured Rugged Hide from Rugged Hide and Refined Deeprock Salt. Each craft makes two hides and Heavy Scorpid Helm needs one per craft, so four crafts cover the whole step.
Reaching 300 also eats a lot of gold for leather if you do not skin it yourself. Our WoW Forever Leatherworking service takes your skill from 1 to 300, so every pattern you own becomes usable and you can craft your own Leather and Mail gear and armor kits right away.
WoW Forever Best Leatherworking Recipes
The recipes worth chasing are the new 300 helms, the crafted tier pieces and the armor kits, because they stay useful at level 60. Most of the new helms need Fel Leather, Pristine Scale and several Cured Rugged Hide, so they cost far more materials than any leveling recipe. These are the most valuable Leatherworking recipes at level 60:
- Dragonscale helms: Black Dragonscale Helm is a Mail helm with 21 Agility, 38 Intellect and 1% critical strike chance, while Blue Dragonscale Helm adds 18 Intellect, 1% hit chance and 25 spell damage and healing. Their pattern sources have not been listed yet.
- Leather helms: Warbear Helm gives 18 Strength, 14 Agility and 33 Stamina for physical builds, while Living Crown adds 18 Intellect, 14 Spirit, 73 healing and 25 damage for healers. Their patterns have no known source so far.
- Special helm: Outlaw’s Collar is an item level 65 Leather helm with 21 Agility, 31 Stamina and 1.5% critical strike chance. It uses Malleable Essence of Nature, Fel Hide and 22 Fel Leather, and its pattern source is still unknown.
- Tier pieces: Leatherworkers at 300 skill can craft Druid, Rogue, Hunter and Shaman tier pieces for shoulders, hands, legs and feet, such as Grovekeeper Grips. These recipes come from Aisarra Nightmeadow in Mount Hyjal.
- Specialization recipes: each specialization has its own top recipe: Black Dragonscale Breastplate for Dragonscale, Hide of the Wild for Tribal and Molten Helm for Elemental. Lokhtos Darkbargainer in Blackrock Depths sells the Molten Helm pattern to Elemental Leatherworkers who are Friendly with the Thorium Brotherhood.
- Armor kits: the Forceful Rugged Armor Kit and Mystic Rugged Armor Kit are the top ranks of the new kits. They need a Rugged Armor Kit, Dream Dust, potions or elixirs, a Pristine Scale and a Fel Hide.
A few of these recipes lean on Blackrock Depths, where Plugger Spazzring also sells the Black Dragonscale Breastplate pattern. That makes the dungeon a natural stop for anyone collecting Thorium Brotherhood materials or patterns, and if you would rather not run it yourself, there are WoW Forever dungeon runs that clear it for you.
Several patterns above still have no confirmed source, so you cannot plan around them yet. Check them again after launch before you spend materials on a helm you cannot learn.
WoW Forever Merchant’s Favor Leatherworking Recipes
Alliance players buy these recipes from Daniel Stitchsong of the Azeroth Commerce Authority in Three Corners, Redridge Mountains. Horde players go to Pawani of Durotar Supply and Logistics outside the Crossroads in The Barrens. You earn Merchant’s Favor by filling Waylaid supply crates and turning them in at the trade camp, and the price of a recipe depends on its tier:
| Merchant’s Favor | Reputation | Skill | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | None | 60-125 | Brawler’s Leather Belt, Trapper’s Leather Hood, Wisdom’s Leather Hood |
| 60 | Friendly | 175-210 | Prowler’s Leather Gloves, Forceful Thick Armor Kit, Warden’s Leather Shoulders |
| 90 | Honored | 225-250 | Mystic Rugged Armor Kit |
| 1,000 | None | 300 | Leatherworking Certification |
The 30 Merchant’s Favor tier covers all six role sets, so you can begin buying useful leveling gear at 60 skill. Granny Finespindle in Ironforge is another recipe vendor, and she sells Pattern: Stalker’s Leather Belt without any reputation requirement. Since supply crates feed the whole system, the leather you skin while leveling doubles as currency for your next set of patterns.
Leatherworking Legacy Perks in WoW Forever
Legacy perks speed up your skill gains, and the profession also feeds the Legacy system through three challenges. You receive one Legacy Point for reaching 150, 225 and 300 Leatherworking for the first time on your account, so a single Artisan Leatherworker earns three Legacy Points. Two perks affect the profession:
- Working Overtime: it raises the chance to gain a skill point from any primary, secondary or class tradeskill by 4% per rank, so all 5 ranks add up to 20%.
- Dedicated Study: this perk adds 1 skill point to your lowest primary or secondary profession once every 23 hours. Once both primaries and all three secondaries are at 300, it gives 2 to 4 random Elemental Essences.
Because the challenge points are granted once per account, your first Leatherworker gets them and later alts do not. That makes it worth taking the first character to 300 early, since the perks then help every profession you level afterwards.
Frequently Asked Questions
These are the questions players ask most about leveling, trainers, specializations, camp objects and gold.
Is Leatherworking worth it in WoW Forever?
Yes, especially for Druids, Rogues, Hunters and Shamans, who can wear what they craft. The new role sets and Bind on Pickup pieces also make it useful while you level, and armor kits and ammo pouches help every class.
What is the best profession to pair with Leatherworking in WoW Forever?
Skinning, since almost every recipe uses leather, hides or scales. It also covers the Rugged Leather and Heavy Scorpid Scale needed for the last steps of the leveling route.
Which Leatherworking specialization should you choose in WoW Forever?
Pick the one that matches the armor you wear. Dragonscale Leatherworking suits Hunters and Shamans in Mail, while Elemental Leatherworking and Tribal Leatherworking focus on Leather. Tribal also adds Frostsaber Boots as a leveling option from 250 skill.
Where do you train Artisan Leatherworking in WoW Forever?
Alliance players go to Drakk Stonehand in Aerie Peak, and Horde players go to Hahrana Ironhide in Camp Mojache. Training it requires 200 skill and a level 35 character.
How long does it take to level Leatherworking to 300 in WoW Forever?
Around 455 crafts. Crafting itself is quick, so most of the time goes into skinning or buying leather.
What do the Leatherworking camp objects do in WoW Forever?
They give Rested experience to players sitting nearby. Both the Tanning Rack and the Sewing Machine also work as crafting stations for recipes that require them.
Is Leatherworking good for making gold in WoW Forever?
Yes, because armor kits are used by every class and supply crates ask for leather goods. Crafted gear sells more slowly, so check prices before you commit expensive materials.
Leatherworking suits players who want to craft their own gear, armor kits and valuable endgame recipes. Pair it with Skinning to collect most of your materials while leveling, and check your specialization requirements before investing in exclusive patterns, especially if you plan to craft Frostsaber Boots. Once your skill climbs, start collecting Merchant’s Favor and preparing materials for your preferred armor sets.
