Warrior Leveling in Midnight at a Glance
As of 12 October 2026 this page matches patch 12.1. We will compare it with patch 12.1.5 after its release on 13 October.
Icy Veins sums up Warrior leveling in one line: charge in and hit things. All three specs level fast, and the class can swap to Protection to get into dungeon groups quickly. The cap is now 90, and this page covers the Warrior side of it: the first twelve levels, the spec choice, the hero trees and the rotation at 80.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Level cap | 90 (Midnight) |
| Level to choose a spec | 10. Before that every Warrior plays like Protection, using Shield Slam |
| Midnight story starts at | Level 78 |
| Best spec for questing | Arms and Fury, which are faster than Protection except for getting quick dungeon queues. Icy Veins says Arms is slightly faster up to around level 33 (12.1 review of 10 August 2026) |
| Hero trees the leveling builds use | Arms: Colossus. Fury: Mountain Thane. Protection: Mountain Thane |
| Heirloom stats | Haste on the class page; Critical Strike and Haste on the Arms and Fury pages |
| Fastest dungeon queue | Protection; a Warrior can swap into it for one dungeon and back |
The old rule that Fury overtakes Arms at level 32 no longer applies: Icy Veins now treats Arms versus Fury as mostly personal taste, with Arms slightly ahead until about level 33.
Arms, Fury or Protection: Which Warrior Spec to Level
All three specs are capable of fast questing. The first decision is tank or DPS. Both DPS specs have plenty of sustain, so you can walk from pack to pack without slowing down.
| Spec | How it levels | Weak point | Hero tree in the leveling build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arms | Straightforward: starts with Sweeping Strikes only, then gains real multi-target tools around level 30. After that it pulls several mobs together and cleaves them down. Die by the Sword mitigates damage and Victory Rush heals | Slow multi-target start before level 30 | Colossus |
| Fury | Starts a little slow, but picks up multi-target tools around level 17 and has very strong self-sustain. Warpaint mitigates damage, and Whirlwind first makes Bloodthirst, Raging Blow, Execute and Rampage cleave | Slightly slower than Arms in the first thirty levels | Mountain Thane |
| Protection | Big pulls while questing, survivable even in basic green gear. Competitive damage at low level, outscaled by the DPS specs by the end of leveling | Lower damage than Arms and Fury | Mountain Thane |
Arms and Fury are the questing picks. Protection is the pick for dungeon queues: the tank queue is much shorter, dungeons give a lot of XP, and Icy Veins notes that fighting stronger dungeon enemies teaches you the class for the endgame.
| Stretch of the trip | Spec to be in | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Levels 1 to 9 | No choice: you play as Protection with Shield Slam | The spec choice opens at 10 |
| Questing from 10 to about 33 | Arms, or Fury if you prefer it | Arms is slightly faster until about level 33 |
| Any dungeon run | Swap to Protection first, back to Arms or Fury after | The tank queue is the shortest |
| Questing at 80 and above | Arms or Fury with the rotations below | They out-damage Protection by the end of leveling |
Warrior Abilities by Level
The basic Warrior kit comes from the first twelve levels. After level 10 further abilities come from talents, with one class or spec talent point per level.
| Level | Ability | What it does for leveling |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Slam | Your first Rage spender |
| 2 | Charge | Closes the gap and generates Rage |
| 3 | Shield Slam | Single-target damage; use it on cooldown until you choose a spec at 10 |
| 4 | Hamstring | Slows one enemy |
| 5 | Victory Rush | Heals you after you defeat an enemy |
| 6 | Shield Block | Blocks incoming physical attacks |
| 6 | Execute | Finisher, usable below 20% target health; learned through the quest “A Warrior’s End” |
| 7 | Pummel | Interrupts spellcasting |
| 8 | Taunt | Forces the enemy to attack you |
| 9 | Whirlwind | AoE Rage spender that hits up to 5 enemies |
| 10 | Heroic Throw and Battle Shout | A ranged pull; Battle Shout is an attack power buff for the group |
| 11 | Victory Rush (improved) | More healing |
| 12 | Berserker Rage | Breaks fear and incapacitate effects on demand |
Recuperate, available to every class, always restores 50% of your maximum health when used out of combat, so you do not need level-appropriate food between pulls.
Hero Talents and Talent Order for Levels 10-90
The talent-point schedule is the same for all classes and is written out in our Rogue leveling guide. For a Warrior the open question is the tree: each spec has two hero trees to choose from, and Slayer is offered to Arms and Fury only.
| Spec | Hero tree in the leveling build | Other option |
|---|---|---|
| Arms | Colossus | Slayer |
| Fury | Mountain Thane | Slayer |
| Protection | Mountain Thane | Colossus |
The hero picks in Icy Veins’ leveling order for 12.1, shown for Arms and Fury:
| Level | Arms (Colossus) | Fury (Mountain Thane) |
|---|---|---|
| 71 | Colossal Might | Crashing Thunder |
| 72 | Tide of Battle | Thunder Blast |
| 73 | Precise Might | Flashing Skies |
| 74 | Dominance of the Colossus | Avatar of the Storm |
| 80 | Celeritous Conclusion | Keep Your Feet on the Ground |
| 83 | Earthquaker | Burst of Power |
| 86 | Veteran Vitality | Storm Bolts |
| 89 | Mountain of Muscle and Scars | Thorim’s Might |
The full order for every talent point, built for leveling and not for raiding, is on the Icy Veins pages for Arms, Fury and Protection.
Rotation From Level 80
Before level 80 the buttons arrive one talent at a time. The lists below are the Icy Veins priorities for 12.1 from level 80 onward; in every spec, open with Charge whenever you can.
Arms
- Use Heroic Throw or Heroic Leap to pull more, and Sweeping Strikes so single-target attacks hit a second enemy.
- Use Ravager on groups or on a strong single target, and Rend on more than three targets, but only if they will live through most of its duration.
- Use Victory Rush after kills, Colossus Smash on the main target and Demolish on cooldown for burst on several targets.
- Use Mortal Strike as the main damage button and Execute whenever possible. Overpower is a free filler and boosts Mortal Strike or Cleave.
- Fill with Slam on one target or Cleave on several.
Fury
- Use Whirlwind first on groups so Bloodthirst, Raging Blow, Execute and Rampage cleave. Once you have it, Thunder Clap keeps the Improved Whirlwind buff up on several targets.
- Use Victory Rush after kills, Thunder Blast whenever it is available and Bloodthirst plus Rampage to maintain Enrage.
- Use Recklessness and Avatar on large groups or strong enemies, and Odyn’s Fury while Enraged for burst.
- Use Execute whenever possible, with Raging Blow or Crushing Blow as fillers and Whirlwind to fill the rotation.
Protection
- Use Impending Victory to heal when needed, and keep Battle Shout up on yourself and allies.
- Use Avatar to generate some Rage and raise damage, Demoralizing Shout to reduce damage taken, and Shield Charge.
- Use Shield Slam and Thunder Clap to generate Rage and deal AoE damage, and Execute below 20% health.
- Spend Rage on Revenge for multi-target damage unless you need it for mitigation: Shield Block against heavy physical damage and Ignore Pain to smooth the rest.
Questing, Dungeons and the Protection Swap
As a DPS you quest and run dungeons when a group is available; as Protection you queue for dungeons between quests, because tank queues are short and dungeon XP is high. Icy Veins’ Protection page recommends exactly that and adds that the stronger enemies in dungeons make you use your abilities more thoughtfully, which prepares you for endgame content.
The Midnight campaign from level 78, the zone order, the level-up dungeons and the XP table do not depend on the class. They are in our Rogue leveling guide, together with the 4 to 5 hour alt route, and a Warrior can follow that plan as written.
Gear and Heirlooms
- Heirlooms. The class page recommends Haste, which lowers the cooldown of most rotational abilities. The Arms and Fury pages list Critical Strike and Haste together, because they slightly improve Rage economy.
- Gear. Item level first. The only exception Icy Veins names is a ring or necklace that is slightly lower but has two secondary stats instead of one.
- Healing. Victory Rush after each kill and Recuperate between pulls replace food. Arms adds Die by the Sword to mitigate damage and Fury gets Warpaint.
- Battle Shout. Keep it up on yourself and your group; it raises attack power.
Warrior Leveling FAQ
What is the best Warrior spec for leveling in Midnight?
Arms or Fury for questing; Arms is slightly faster until about level 33. Protection for the fastest dungeon queues.
Which hero talents should I take?
The Icy Veins leveling builds use Colossus for Arms and Mountain Thane for Fury and Protection. Slayer is the other choice for Arms and Fury, and Colossus for Protection.
When do hero talents start?
At level 71; the schedule after that is the same for every class and is laid out in our Rogue leveling guide.
When do I choose a spec?
At level 10. Until then you play like a Protection Warrior with Shield Slam.
Do I need food while leveling?
No. Recuperate restores 50% of your maximum health out of combat, and Victory Rush heals you after kills.
Can I skip the leveling?
If you do not want to play it, the Midnight leveling boost covers 1 to 90. A Warrior who reaches 90 that way should open the Midnight beginner guide next.
