Destiny 2: What Was Vaulted with The Witch Queen?

Table of contents

Intro

The Witch Queen expansion launched in February 2022, marking a significant shift in Destiny 2’s evolving universe. With its release, Bungie introduced a new season, fresh content, and unfortunately, vaulted several locations, activities, and weapons.

While the Witch Queen expansion is now part of Destiny 2’s history, understanding what was removed helps us prepare for future expansions and anticipate what could be vaulted next. This guide looks back at what left the game and what players had to complete before it disappeared.

What Was Removed with The Witch Queen Expansion?

Similar to Beyond Light’s Content Vaulting, The Witch Queen expansion also removed a significant portion of the game’s content, specifically from Seasons 12-15, the Tangled Shore, and the Forsaken campaign. If you played during this time, here’s a recap of what was lost and what Guardians had to complete before February 22, 2022.

Vaulted Locations and Campaigns

Tangled Shore & The Forsaken Campaign

The Tangled Shore was removed from the game, taking with it the Forsaken campaign and several activities tied to it. Players were encouraged to finish the campaign, unlock all associated Triumphs, and farm its exclusive weapons before they were vaulted.

Seasonal Activities and Titles Removed

All seasonal content from Seasons 12-15 (Season of the Hunt, Chosen, Splicer, and Lost) was retired, including its seasonal activities, quests, and weapons. The corresponding Titles (Warden, Chosen, Splicer, Realmwalker) also became unobtainable.

Season Notable Vaulted Content Vaulted Title
Season of the Hunt Wrathborn Hunts, Harbinger mission (Hawkmoon) Warden
Season of the Chosen Battlegrounds, Presage mission (Dead Man’s Tale) Chosen
Season of the Splicer Override, Expunge, Last City Endless Night Event Splicer
Season of the Lost Astral Alignment, Shattered Realm Realmwalker

Vaulted Weapons and Exotic Missions

While some weapons remained available via other sources, their associated quests and farmable methods were removed. Here are some of the most notable vaulted weapons:

Hawkmoon & Dead Man’s Tale

  • Hawkmoon (Exotic Hand Cannon) and its random rolls were removed with the Harbinger mission.
  • Dead Man’s Tale (Exotic Scout Rifle) and its Presage mission were also vaulted.
  • Both weapons later became available from Xur, but without random roll farming.

Seasonal & Ritual Weapons Vaulted

Several seasonal weapons, many of which were fan favorites, were no longer obtainable after The Witch Queen’s launch:

Weapon Name Type Source Before Vaulting
Threaded Needle Void Linear Fusion Rifle Season of the Chosen
Extraordinary Rendition Kinetic Submachine Gun Season of the Chosen
Ignition Code Kinetic Grenade Launcher Season of the Splicer
Chroma Rush Kinetic Auto Rifle Season of the Splicer
Fractethyst Stasis Shotgun Season of the Lost
Wolftone Draw Arc Bow Season of the Lost

Gambit, Trials, & Nightfall Weapons

Several Trials of Osiris, Gambit, and Nightfall weapons were cycled out with this vaulting event. Some returned in later seasons, but many lost their Adept versions:

Weapon Name Type Source Before Vaulting
Igneous Hammer Solar Hand Cannon Trials of Osiris
The Comedian (Adept) Void Shotgun Nightfall (Hallowed Lair)
Hung Jury SR4 (Adept) Kinetic Scout Rifle Nightfall (Grandmaster)
The Hothead Arc Rocket Launcher Nightfall (Grandmaster)
Multimach CCX Kinetic Submachine Gun Iron Banner

Seals and Triumphs That Became Unobtainable

With The Witch Queen update, multiple gold and seasonal seals became impossible to earn. Some were replaced with new seasonal challenges, but their unique rewards were lost forever.

Gold Seals Removed

  • Gilded Conqueror (Grandmaster Nightfall Title)
  • Gilded Flawless (Trials of Osiris Title)
  • Gilded Unbroken (Competitive Crucible Title)
  • Gilded Gambit (Gambit Title)
  • MMXXI (Moments of Triumph 2021 Title)

Moments of Triumph Event

The Moments of Triumph 2021 event concluded with The Witch Queen’s arrival, taking the exclusive seal and emblem with it.
