New Features for 2023 in World of Warcraft's Hallow's End

The Hallow’s End celebration received a significant update in 2023, introducing a variety of new features:

  • High-Quality Decorations: All festive decorations across locations have been upgraded for a better visual experience.
  • Dragon Isles Decor: Decorations for the event now also adorn the Dragon Isles.
  • Crimson Monastery Graveyard Update: The graveyard has been visually enhanced for the festivities.

During the event, players can visit 36 candy buckets throughout the Dragon Isles to earn the “Trick or Treat in the Dragon Isles” achievement. Coordinates and screenshots of all candy buckets are provided in a separate note.

New Questline and Achievements

Players can embark on a new eerie questline involving the Headless Horseman, starting with the quest “Phantom Message” from Orphan Matron Sicole in Stormwind (Alliance) or Orphan Matron Nani outside Undercity (Horde). A brief story recap can be found here.

The battle against the Headless Horseman has been revamped, introducing three new achievements:

  • Cleansing Fire (defeat the boss)
  • Keep Your Head, Buddy (defeat any version of the boss)
  • Sinister Twists (defeat the boss in hard mode while affected by curses from all four woven dolls)

The previous achievement “Bring Me His Head… Uh, I Mean…” has now become a grand achievement and is no longer available. More details about the updated battle and achievements can be found in a separate note.

Epic Loot from the Headless Horseman

Characters level 60+ who own the Dragonflight expansion may have a chance to receive the Air Velozidrachon transmog: Pumpkin Armor from the Epic Pumpkin Loot after defeating the Headless Horseman. Additionally, there’s a chance to obtain the Psartas Pet, which also grants the grand achievement “King of Dogs.”

Moreover, characters level 60+ have a chance to acquire the Crimson Key. This key allows access to the Crimson Monastery in the open world. After entering the main building, players can complete the quest “The Crimson Key” near the key bundle on the wall. This grants the account-wide effect “Crimson Key,” enabling teleportation to classic versions of the Crimson Monastery dungeons. The key can be traded between players without restrictions.

Now, the first attempt each day has an increased chance to yield the Headless Horseman’s Mount Reins, with odds also affected by the number of active curses from the woven dolls.

The loot from the Headless Horseman is now item level 402 (“Veteran” 1/8, upgradeable to 424) for level 70 characters.

New Items from Event Vendors

At the event vendors—Dorothy (Alliance) or Chaba (Horde)—players can purchase:

  • Bucket of Sinister Sweets (150 Pumpkin Candies) – a decorative item for the off-hand.
  • Awakened Heirloom Armor (450 Pumpkin Candies) – an upgrade for heirloom armor.

During the event, the Ghostly Broom from the October Trading Post can be summoned instantly, but only while stationary; it cannot be summoned while moving or falling.

Players can also complete several tasks for the Trading Post for a total of 650 points:

  • Hallow’s End: Visit candy buckets in Pandaria (50)
  • Hallow’s End: Visit candy buckets on the Dragon Isles (50)
  • Hallow’s End: Complete 5 daily Hallow’s End quests (100)
  • Hallow’s End: Complete 15 daily Hallow’s End quests (150)
  • Hallow’s End: Defeat the Headless Horseman multiple times (100)
  • Hallow’s End: Defeat the Headless Horseman under the effect of all 4 curses from woven dolls (100)
