Midnight Leatherworking at a Glance
Reviewed 12 October 2026 against patch 12.1. Profession systems stay as they are in the 12.1.5 update of 13 to 14 October.
Leatherworking in Midnight makes leather and mail armor from shared materials, armor kits for legs, party-wide haste drums and a set of embellishments. Icy Veins puts it in A tier for gold in Season 2 (updated 11 August): good gear crafting potential, fewer consumable builds. Leather and mail recipes now use the same leather, hides and scales instead of separate materials, and crafted materials come in two ranks.

What Changed From The War Within
| Area | Earlier expansions | Midnight |
|---|---|---|
| Materials | Three ranks; leather and mail used different materials | Two ranks; leather and mail recipes share leather, hides and scales (Method) |
| Recipe currency | Artisan’s Acuity | Artisan Leatherworker’s Moxie, only for Leatherworking recipes. Blue and epic equipment recipes cost 150 each from Zaralda |
| Quality | Three ranks | Silver and Gold, so Concentration can be spent right away on Gold items (wow-professions.com) |
| Gear | Mostly crafted and traded | Green and blue gear is tradeable (blue is bind-on-equip); epic gear is soulbound, so you make it through Crafting Orders. Blue and epic give the same skill; epic adds secondary stats |
Leveling Leatherworking from 1 to 100
Method’s route (5 March 2026) uses the cheapest recipes that give skill:
| Skill | What to craft |
|---|---|
| 1 to 25 | Scout’s Scaled Bracers, Smuggler’s Leather Wristbands, Skinner’s Cap, Smuggler’s Leather Footpads, Scout’s Scaled Boots, Eversong Botanist’s Satchel or Thalassian Scout Armor Kit, Scout’s Scaled Vest, Smuggler’s Leather Tunic, Skinner’s Backpack and Scout’s Polished Wrap |
| 25 to 40 | Smuggler’s Reinforced Binding, Hideworker’s Cover, Scout’s Polished Gauntlets (for knowledge only), Smuggler’s Reinforced Gloves, Tinker’s Handguard, Apprentice Jeweler’s Apron, Apprentice Smith’s Apron and Chemist’s Cap |
| 40 to 60 | The last trainer recipes: Smuggler’s Reinforced Shoulderguards, Scout’s Polished Spaulders, Scout’s Polished Legguards, Smuggler’s Reinforced Pants, Scout’s Polished Skullcap, Smuggler’s Reinforced Hood and Void-touched Drums |
| 60 to 65 | Keep crafting Void-touched Drums. They turn green at 63 and grey at 65, and you can sell them |
Method’s materials total for skill 1 to 60: 668 Void-Tempered Leather, 567 Void-Tempered Scales, 2 Void-Tempered Hide, 75 Silverleaf Thread, 5 Peerless Plumage, 2 Carving Canine, 4 Fantastic Fur and 2 Mote of Pure Void. Beyond 65 you level through the knowledge trees and vendor recipes. At skill 80 the trainer teaches housing decor such as the Embossed Sin’dorei Fur Rug and Leather-Bound Haranir Wall Shelf; they are expensive, so Method leaves them out of leveling.
No race has a Leatherworking bonus. A Kul Tiran gets +2 to every profession (Method).

Armor kits and drums
| Item | Effect | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Thalassian Scout Armor Kit | Cheaper kit, good for leveling | Trainer, skill 10 |
| Forest Hunter’s Armor Kit | Critical strike, primary stat and Stamina | Magovu (Amani Tribe renown 5) |
| Blood Knight’s Armor Kit | Versatility, primary stat and armor. Method calls it the preferred tank leg enchant | Caeris Fairdawn (Silvermoon Court renown 5), or the Flawless Fortes tree |
| Void-touched Drums | 15% haste to the party or raid | Trainer, skill 50 |
Method’s Season 2 rogue guides list the Forest Hunter’s Armor Kit on legs for Assassination, Outlaw and Subtlety. Armor kits are therefore a steady Crafting Order item.
Embellishments
Leatherworking embellishments mostly drop: Hexwoven Strand (Rak’tul, Maisara Caverns), Row Walker’s Insurance (Lithiel Cinderfury), World Tender’s Barkclasp (Chimaerus), World Tender’s Trunkplate (Ziekket) and Ranger-General’s Grips (Restless Heart). Row Walker’s Swiftgrips, Axe-Flingin’ Bands and World Tender’s Rootslippers come from Heavy Trunk in Delves, Row Walker’s Deflectors from Caeris Fairdawn and World Tree Rootwraps from Naynar. Patch 12.1 adds Adorned Fang, a haste proc (Method).
Housing
Besides the trainer decor above, Haranir Canopy Bed, Plush Haranir Leather Pillow, Simple Haranir Table (Naynar), Stitched Haranir Rug and Sturdy Haranir Chair (Zaralda) are craftable, and 12.1 adds Pattern: Flat Snakeskin Canopy, Mounted Moby and Stretched Snakeskin Rack. Our housing endeavors guide explains how to use them.
Specializations
Trees open at Leatherworking skill 25, 50, 60 and 75 (wow-professions.com).
| Tree | What it gives |
|---|---|
| Lasting Leather | Leather armor: Securely Shaped or Embroidered Ensembles lead to bracers, belts, boots and gloves |
| Safeguarding Scales | Mail armor: Advanced Armor or Bolstered Bulwark lead to the same four slots in mail |
| Flawless Fortes | Armor kits, profession gear and optional reagents. Commanding Commodities gives Blood Knight’s Armor Kit; Overwhelming Optionals gives Devouring Banding; Brimming Basics raises quality for Scalewoven Hide, Silvermoon Weapon Wrap and Sin’dorei Armor Banding |
| Learned Leatherworker | Crafting stats. Five points open a sub-tree; Concentrated Crafter improves Concentration, and Mastering Multicraft gives a large multicraft increase |
Pick the tree that matches what you plan to craft. Flawless Fortes is the only tree that teaches the armor kits and optional reagents.
Knowledge Points and the 12.1 Reset
| Source | KP |
|---|---|
| Whisper of the Loa: Leatherworking, sold by Magovu at Amani Tribe renown 6 for 75 Moxie (Method counts 750 Voidlight Marl) | 10, one time |
| Eight profession treasures around Midnight | 24 in total (3 each), one time |
| Patron Crafting Orders (some give no KP) | 12 to 16 per week |
| Weekly quest: three Crafting Orders for a Thalassian Leatherworker’s Journal (needs the Crafters Needed questline from Captain Flaresworn) | 2 to 3 |
| Weekly drops: Thalassian Mana Oil and Amani Tanning Oil | 4 |
| Thalassian Treatise on Leatherworking (bind-on-pickup, Warbound) | 1 |
| The monthly Darkmoon Faire profession quest | 3, with 2 skill on top |
Since patch 12.1 (everything new in 12.1) a profession can be respecced once, which refunds every point and removes the recipes learned through them (Method). Flawless Fortes is the only tree that teaches the armor kits, so check that your new plan still reaches the kit you need before you reset.
Making Gold With Midnight Leatherworking
Icy Veins rates Leatherworking A tier, like Blacksmithing and Engineering, for Season 2 gear crafting. Method lists these sources of income:
- Crafting Orders and Patron orders for bracers, belts, boots and gloves.
- Green and blue profession gear on the Auction House.
- Void-touched Drums after leveling.
- Scalewoven Hide, Infused Scalewoven Hide, Silvermoon Weapon Wrap and Sin’dorei Armor Banding, which other crafters buy.
- Blood Knight’s Armor Kit, which gives guaranteed skill-ups to level 80 and is the tank leg choice.
Leather and mail gear in Season 2 uses the shared Spark and Mistcrest costs, which Midnight Best Profession lays out together with the whole profession ranking. A leatherworker’s own edge is the shared material pool: leather and mail recipes use the same leather, hides and scales, so one stock of Void-Tempered materials can fill an order for either armor type.
