WoW Midnight 12.0.5 Mythic+ Tier List: Best Tanks, DPS, and Healers for Mid to High Keys

Table of contents

Intro

Patch 12.0.5 has shaken up the Mythic+ meta in World of Warcraft: Midnight, and the difference between “playable” and “meta” is becoming clearer every week. This tier list is focused specifically on mid to high Mythic+ keys, not weekly vault keys, casual +12s, or world-first pushing.

If you are aiming for the new seasonal mount rewards, pushing toward the top 1%, or trying to climb into the 3.4K–3.7K score range, your spec choice starts to matter a lot more. At lower key levels, almost every spec can work with enough gear and good play. At higher levels, survivability, utility, damage profile, and group buffs become much harder to ignore.

And if your biggest issue right now is not the meta but simply keeping up with gold, enchants, consumables, and crafted gear, you can always speed up your preparation with WoW Retail Gold and focus more on playing instead of farming.

Tank Tier List in Patch 12.0.5

The tank meta in Midnight Season 1 is heavily defined by one spec: Brewmaster Monk.

Most tanks are technically capable of timing strong keys, but the difficulty curve is not equal. Some tanks need perfect cooldown planning, coordinated externals, and far cleaner execution just to survive pulls that Brewmaster handles much more comfortably.

S Tier Tank: Brewmaster Monk

Brewmaster Monk is the clear king of Mythic+ tanks in 12.0.5.

The spec has extremely strong survivability, excellent smoothing, and a much easier time staying alive in high keys compared to the rest of the tank roster. This matters because one of the biggest problems tanks face this season is simply surviving incoming damage. Brewmaster deals with that problem better than anyone else.

Its dominance is reflected in high-key representation. Brewmaster has an overwhelming play rate at the top end, and while that does not mean every other tank is useless, it does show how much easier Brewmaster makes the season feel.

A+ Tier Tank: Guardian Druid

Guardian Druid sits below Brewmaster but above the rest of the tank pack.

Bear has strong survivability, solid damage after recent buffs, and useful group value through Mark of the Wild. It is also generally less volatile than tanks like Blood DK or Vengeance Demon Hunter, which makes it more comfortable in higher keys.

Guardian is not as dominant as Brewmaster, but it is clearly one of the stronger non-Brewmaster options.

B Tier Tanks: Blood DK, Vengeance DH, Protection Warrior, Protection Paladin

Blood Death Knight, Vengeance Demon Hunter, Protection Warrior, and Protection Paladin all land in B tier.

This does not mean they are unplayable. Skilled players can absolutely push strong keys on them. The problem is that they require significantly more effort to survive at the same level where Brewmaster feels much smoother.

Protection Warrior and Protection Paladin may feel a little better than Blood DK and Vengeance in many situations, but all four suffer from the same core issue: they are simply much harder to keep alive in high keys. Vengeance Demon Hunter in particular feels very fragile this season compared to its previous dominance.

DPS Tier List in Patch 12.0.5

The DPS meta is more interesting than the tank meta. There is a clear top group, but there are also several strong sleeper specs, a rising physical comp, and a few specs that are badly behind.

S Tier DPS

Augmentation Evoker

Augmentation Evoker is the best DPS spec in the season.

It brings elite defensive utility, enormous group value, and extremely high effective damage when you account for the power it gives to other players. Aug is one of those specs that changes how the group functions. It makes other players stronger, makes dangerous moments safer, and fits perfectly into the highest-level meta.

For serious pushing, Augmentation is almost mandatory.

Devourer Demon Hunter

Devourer Demon Hunter is one of the strongest pure DPS options in the game right now.

It has excellent AoE, strong single-target, high durability, and brings the valuable 3% magic damage buff. Since the other Demon Hunter options are not nearly as strong, Devourer becomes the easiest and best way to bring that group value.

Even with nerfs, Devourer is expected to remain S tier.

Demonology Warlock

Demonology Warlock is another top-tier DPS.

It has been pumping in both AoE and single-target, and unlike several other meta specs, it is not being hit as hard by current tuning. Demo’s ability to perform well in nearly every damage profile makes it one of the safest caster picks for serious Mythic+.

If you want a ranged DPS that can compete near the top without relying on a narrow niche, Demo is one of the best choices.

Unholy Death Knight

Unholy DK is still a monster.

Its uncapped AoE is among the best in the game, its single-target is solid, and it is extremely durable. Unholy is one of the tankiest DPS specs available, which is a massive advantage in a season where surviving mechanics matters just as much as dealing damage.

Even after nerfs, Unholy should remain one of the strongest melee specs in the meta.

A+ Tier DPS

Retribution Paladin

Retribution Paladin has climbed significantly after buffs and is now one of the strongest all-round melee specs.

Its AoE is strong, its cleave is good, and its single-target is respectable. On top of that, Paladin utility is excellent this season. Blessing of Freedom alone can create huge value in certain dungeons, and the overall toolkit gives Ret a lot of ways to help the group.

The main downside is that Ret benefits heavily from Shaman buffs. Without the right support, it can feel weaker. In the right comp, though, Ret is a very strong A+ pick.

Arms Warrior and Fury Warrior

Warriors are finally real contenders again.

Arms has been especially strong in AoE and cleave, although its single-target has been weak. Fury has a better single-target profile but has not been as dominant overall. However, both specs are receiving strong buffs, which should push them firmly into A+ tier.

Warriors also bring Battle Shout, which becomes extremely important in physical comps. Since Protection Warrior is not a dominant tank choice, DPS Warriors may become the main way to bring this buff.

Beast Mastery Hunter

BM Hunter is stronger than many players give it credit for.

It has a versatile damage profile, solid AoE, and is receiving an additional buff. Its single-target is not amazing, but it is far from terrible. BM also has the advantage of being easier to execute consistently than many other specs, which matters in real Mythic+ environments.

BM deserves a spot in A+ tier, especially after tuning.

Survival Hunter

Survival Hunter has benefited a lot from recent changes.

Its damage is solid, it works well in melee and physical comps, and it benefits from buffs like Battle Shout and Windfury. That makes it more flexible than some players expect. It may not beat BM in every situation, but it has strong comp synergy.

Survival is a very real A+ option.

Feral Druid

Feral Druid is part of the rising physical comp trend.

It brings excellent AoE, strong priority damage, Mark of the Wild, and better survivability than Balance in many situations. Physical comps with specs like Feral, Survival, Arms, and Outlaw are gaining real traction this season, and Feral fits that style very well.

It is not quite S tier, but it is a strong A+ melee pick.

A Tier DPS

Balance Druid

Balance Druid is slept on.

Its uncapped AoE is excellent, and its single-target is much better than many players think. The issue is not really performance—it is competition. Many groups already have a Restoration Druid or Guardian Druid, which reduces the need to bring Balance specifically for Mark of the Wild.

Still, Boomkin is a strong A tier spec and can perform very well in the right hands.

Elemental Shaman

Elemental Shaman is solid but not as dominant as last season.

The damage is good, but not spectacular compared to the top specs. It also competes with Restoration Shaman as the preferred way to bring Shaman utility. If your group already has the buff covered, Elemental becomes less mandatory.

Still, it remains a reliable A tier caster.

Frost Mage

Frost Mage is a decent all-rounder.

It has strong defensives, good control, and a safer profile than Fire or Arcane. The issue is that its throughput is not on the same level as A+ and S tier specs. Some players may argue Frost belongs higher, but its damage can feel underwhelming compared to the true meta picks.

Frost is good, but probably a little overrated.

Shadow Priest

Shadow Priest is another sleeper.

Its damage is solid, its single-target is especially impressive, and it feels more durable than it did in previous seasons. The biggest problem is not performance—it is getting invited. Shadow often struggles in LFG because players underestimate it or prefer more obvious meta picks.

A good Shadow Priest is absolutely worth bringing.

Assassination Rogue and Subtlety Rogue

Assassination and Subtlety both land in lower A tier.

Both have strong priority damage, and both can perform well when played properly. Subtlety has better single-target, while Assassination tends to have stronger AoE and priority pressure. The problem is Rogue utility. In Mythic+, Rogues are often invited for damage rather than group-wide value, and right now their damage is good but not meta-defining.

They are playable and strong, but not automatic invites.

Havoc Demon Hunter

Havoc is not as bad as some players claim, but it has clearly fallen behind Devourer.

Its AoE is still decent, and it brings the Demon Hunter raid buff, but it suffers from weaker output and poor single-target unless funnel is involved. Since Devourer exists and is much stronger, Havoc has a hard time justifying itself in serious groups.

Still, the spec is good enough for A tier.

B Tier DPS

Frost Death Knight

Frost DK has fallen hard after being strong in previous seasons.

Its damage has been lacking since the start of Midnight Season 1. A flat buff may help, but the spec appears too far behind for that alone to change its position dramatically.

It sits near the top of B tier for now.

Outlaw Rogue

Outlaw is a very specific spec this season.

It can work inside physical comps, especially when built around cleave and specific group synergies. Outside of that, it is much harder to justify. Its AoE is not amazing, its cleave is strong, and its single-target is actually good, but the spec is too locked into a narrow playstyle.

With nerfs coming, Outlaw remains B tier.

Enhancement Shaman

Enhancement Shaman is underperforming.

It has decent cleave, but overall damage is not impressive enough. Compared to Elemental and Restoration Shaman, Enhancement has a harder time justifying its spot. It can still time keys, but it is not in a great meta position.

Fire Mage and Arcane Mage

Both Fire and Arcane are struggling, but for different reasons.

Fire’s damage is generally too low. Arcane can do decent damage, but its defensive kit was heavily weakened in Midnight, making it very fragile in high keys. Arcane may perform in skilled hands, but survivability is a real problem.

Affliction Warlock

Affliction is a spec to watch.

Right now, it belongs in B tier because its single-target is weak, even though its AoE and priority damage profile can look good in theory. However, it is receiving a large buff, especially in AoE, which could push it into A tier if the numbers land well.

If you play Affliction, keep an eye on tuning.

Marksmanship Hunter

Marksmanship still does what it always does: deletes lower-key packs during cooldowns.

The problem is that higher-key mobs do not die instantly, and once targets live longer, MM’s damage profile becomes less impressive. Its cleave is solid, especially around 3–5 targets, but its AoE and single-target are not strong enough for higher placement.

Windwalker Monk

Windwalker remains in a rough spot.

Its damage is mediocre, it does not excel in any major profile, and Brewmaster plus Mistweaver are both much more valuable ways to bring Monk utility. That makes Windwalker very hard to invite, even if the player is good.

C Tier DPS

Devastation Evoker

Devastation Evoker is in a very bad place.

It still has some utility, but the damage is simply not there. It does not clearly excel in AoE, single-target, cleave, or priority damage. Compared to Augmentation, Devastation feels completely overshadowed.

Destruction Warlock

Destruction Warlock also lands in C tier.

Its uncapped AoE can be good, but that requires mobs to stay still inside Rain of Fire. In coordinated groups, that can work. In pugs, tanks moving mobs constantly can destroy your damage profile.

Outside of that AoE niche, Destruction is underwhelming compared to Demonology and even potentially Affliction after buffs.

Healer Tier List in Patch 12.0.5

The healer meta is much healthier than the tank meta, but there is still a clear top group.

S Tier Healers

Restoration Druid

Restoration Druid is one of the best healers in the season.

It brings excellent healing output, Mark of the Wild, strong utility, and fits easily into many comps. With Guardian not always present and Balance being less common, Resto Druid is often the best way to bring Druid value.

Restoration Shaman

Restoration Shaman is also S tier.

It brings strong healing, excellent group utility, and the valuable Shaman buff. In many comps, Resto Shaman is the best way to cover what the group needs while still providing strong output.

Mistweaver Monk

Mistweaver Monk is performing extremely well.

It does have weaker healing in pure single-target boss situations, but its overall output in Mythic+ is excellent. Even with Brewmaster already bringing Monk utility, Mistweaver is strong enough that top groups still run double Monk setups.

That says everything.

A Tier Healers

Discipline Priest

Discipline Priest is solid after returning more toward damage mitigation rather than raw reactive healing.

It can absolutely perform in high keys, and some players may argue it belongs in A+. The main reason it stays in A is that it lacks the broader comp value of the S tier healers.

Holy Paladin

Holy Paladin is strong but demanding.

Its utility is excellent, and Paladin tools can be extremely valuable this season. Blessing of Freedom, defensive externals, and general Paladin support are all strong. The downside is AoE healing. Holy Paladin can struggle to cover heavy group-wide damage unless played very well.

In the right hands, Holy Paladin is good. It is just not as easy or universally strong as the S tier healers.

Preservation Evoker

Preservation Evoker is better than many people think.

It brings bleed removal, Bloodlust if needed, damage reduction, strong healer damage, and useful utility. Its biggest weakness is positioning. Preservation has always cared about where the group stands, and that can be much easier with melee-heavy groups than scattered ranged comps.

It is not meta-defining, but it is absolutely playable.

C Tier Healer

Holy Priest

Holy Priest is the weakest healer in this tier list.

Its problem is the same as usual: it heals, but does not bring enough extra value. Its raid buff is defensive only, its externals are weaker than competing healers, and it appears to have serious mana problems in real Mythic+ runs.

A great Holy Priest can still make it work, but compared to the rest of the healer roster, the spec is clearly behind.

Best Specs to Watch After Tuning

Several specs could move soon depending on balance changes.

The biggest ones to watch are:

Affliction Warlock, because its buffs are large enough to potentially move it into A tier.

Frost Death Knight, because its flat buff may help, although probably not enough to make it meta.

Warrior DPS, because both Arms and Fury are getting meaningful buffs and could become core pieces of physical comps.

BM Hunter, because another buff could make an already underrated spec even stronger.

If you are still gearing a character for Mythic+, this is also a good time to invest in the right enchants, consumables, and crafted upgrades. If you do not want to waste hours farming materials, WoW Retail Gold can help you prepare faster and keep your character ready for key pushes.

Final Thoughts

The 12.0.5 Mythic+ meta is defined by survivability, group buffs, and comp synergy.

Brewmaster Monk dominates tanks. Augmentation Evoker, Devourer Demon Hunter, Demonology Warlock, and Unholy DK dominate the DPS meta. Restoration Druid, Restoration Shaman, and Mistweaver Monk are carrying the healer scene.

At the same time, there are strong sleeper picks. Balance Druid, Shadow Priest, BM Hunter, Survival Hunter, and Warriors all have real potential. Physical comps are rising, and upcoming tuning may shift several specs upward.

For casual weekly keys, play what you enjoy. For mid to high pushing, especially if you want seasonal mount rewards or top 1% placement, the meta matters much more.

And if you want to focus on improving your runs rather than grinding setup resources, Onlyfarms can help with WoW Retail Boosting and WoW Retail Mythic+ services, so you can save time and push your character further in Midnight Season 1.
