Status in October 2026: These March News Are Season 1 History

As of 12 October 2026, the news below belongs to a season that has ended. It was written in March, shortly before the first Midnight raids opened. Season 1 ran from 17 March to 11 August; Season 2 started on 18 August with patch 12.1, and patch 12.1.5 follows on 13 October.

Topic in the post Where it stands
Raid launch Voidspire and Dreamrift were the Season 1 raids, open on 17 March with Mythic on 24 March. The Venomous Abyss, eight bosses, has been the main Season 2 raid since 18 August.
Class balance numbers Pre-raid Season 1 tuning that later passes have replaced. Early-October placements are in our Midnight Best DPS guide.
Gear questline The forge in this post is the Voidforge, which the Warcraft Wiki files under patch 12.0.1 (10 February 2026). How it is built and what patch 12.0.5 added are in the forge section further down.
Addon restrictions and hidden debuffs Patch 12.1 brought the aura APIs that Blizzard announced on 18 June, so addons can show filtered sets of auras. WeakAuras has no Midnight version; the Midnight add-ons guide lists what works.
Performance tips (DirectX 11, hiding nameplates) These were March workarounds for lag around the raid launch. On 12.1 they are a fallback if your frame rate drops, and the graphics menu shows the effect at once.

Everything live today is in the Patch 12.1 overview. The sections below are the March 2026 post; in October its forge advice was brought in line with the system’s English name.

Intro

The WoW Midnight pre-season phase is heating up fast — and with raid release just around the corner, Blizzard is making some aggressive moves. From performance issues and UI bugs to addon restrictions and class balance changes, the current state of the game feels like a classic “last-minute tuning phase.”

If you’ve logged in recently, you’ve probably noticed things aren’t entirely stable. But at the same time, there are some genuinely important updates that will directly impact your progression — especially if you plan to push Mythic+ or raids early in the season.

Let’s break down everything that matters.

Performance Issues in WoW Midnight (And How to Fix Them)

One of the biggest complaints right now is performance instability.

Many players are experiencing:

  • FPS drops in raids and large-scale encounters
  • Lag spikes when using raid frames
  • Stuttering when nameplates or health bars are enabled

There are a couple of temporary fixes that are already helping players:

  • Switching to DirectX 11 instead of DX12
  • Disabling auto-detect graphics settings and manually selecting your GPU
  • Turning off certain UI elements like nameplates (Ctrl + V) or heavily customized raid frames

This is clearly not ideal, especially right before raid launch. But if you’re planning to push content early, optimizing your setup now can make a big difference.

The Voidforge Questline: Why You Should Not Skip It

The progression system this March post first called the “Abyssal Forge (Gornilo Bezdny)” is the Voidforge. Gornilo Bezdny is the Russian client’s name for it, so a search for either name leads to the same questline.

The Warcraft Wiki lists the Voidforge under patch 12.0.1 (10 February 2026). It stands at Howling Ridge in Voidstorm, and since patch 12.1 a second one is in Silvermoon City. Building it works like this:

  • At level 90, take the quest Building the Voidforge from Decimus. The follow-up, An Elementary Voidcore, repeats five times.
  • The quests ask for Elementary Voidcore Shards (three for the first one). Shards drop from Midnight raid bosses, from Bountiful Coffers in Bountiful delves and from the end chest of a Mythic+ dungeon.
  • Each quest rewards a transmute, and six transmutes finish the forge, so the chain spreads over six weeks. Missed weeks can be caught up, and progress counts for your whole account.

Patch 12.0.5 (21 April 2026) then opened two more things at the forge. Nebulous Voidcores work as a bonus-roll currency for the loot you want, and the Ascendant Nilhammer questline produces Ascendant Voidcores, which raise the item level of a weapon, necklace or trinket that is fully upgraded on the Hero or Myth track.

So the March advice stands with one correction: a late start is no disaster, because the weeks can be caught up, but the shards still have to be earned in raids, delves or keys. A character that is not 90 yet can get there faster with WoW Leveling.

Blizzard Fixes Hidden Debuffs (Finally)

One of the strangest design issues has finally been addressed.

Previously, some critical debuffs were hidden from the UI, meaning:

  • Healers couldn’t see them
  • Addons didn’t track them
  • Players couldn’t react properly

This caused situations where mechanics looked like player mistakes, but were actually UI failures.

Now, Blizzard has:

  • Moved these debuffs into visible systems
  • Made them trackable via default UI and addons

This is a massive quality-of-life improvement — especially for healers and raid groups. It also removes a lot of “fake difficulty” from encounters.

Addon Restrictions Before Raid Release (Community Not Happy)

This is where things get controversial.

Blizzard has pushed last-minute changes to addon APIs right before the raid launch. The goal is to:

  • Prevent exploitative automation
  • Limit certain high-end “abuse” strategies used by top guilds

The problem? Timing.

Traditionally, Blizzard avoids major system changes right before:

  • Raid races
  • Season launches
  • Competitive progression

This time, they didn’t.

As a result:

  • Some addons may break or lose functionality
  • UI setups might need to be adjusted quickly
  • High-end players are frustrated due to reduced prep time

Even if you’re not a world-first raider, this can still affect your experience — especially if you rely heavily on custom UI setups.

WoW Midnight Balance Changes (Pre-Raid Tuning)

Now let’s talk about what everyone cares about: class tuning.

Blizzard dropped a wide range of buffs and nerfs right before raid release. Some are small, some are meaningful.

DPS Changes

Buffs:

  • Rogues (all specs): +3–4% damage
  • Elemental Shaman: multiple abilities buffed (10–20%)
  • Beast Mastery Hunter: +5% overall damage

Nerfs:

  • Demon Hunter (Havoc): slight overall adjustments
  • Warlock (Demonology): -4% overall damage

These changes suggest Blizzard is trying to:

  • Bring underperforming specs up
  • Slightly tone down dominant ones

Elemental Shaman, in particular, is getting significant buffs — but whether that’s enough to move it out of bottom-tier DPS remains to be seen.

Healer Changes

This is where things get more interesting.

Buffs:

  • Restoration Druid: overall healing increased
  • Holy Paladin: multiple healing improvements
  • Discipline Priest: shields and direct healing buffed

Nerfs:

  • Preservation Evoker: healing reduced by ~5%

The key takeaway here is clear:
Blizzard is trying to shift healing away from pure damage-based playstyles (especially Discipline Priest) and back toward more traditional healing patterns.

Whether that’s a good direction depends on your perspective, but it will definitely impact raid compositions.

Overall Balance Impression

At a glance, the changes feel:

  • Mostly reasonable
  • Slightly rushed
  • Focused on early raid balance rather than long-term meta

Nothing here completely reshapes the meta — but several specs (especially healers and shamans) could shift noticeably in performance.

What This Means for You (Before Season Start)

With raids and Mythic+ opening soon, this is the moment where preparation matters most.

Here’s what you should focus on right now:

1. Fix Your Performance

If your game is lagging now, it will only get worse in raids. Optimize your settings immediately.

2. Start the Voidforge Questline

Building the Voidforge is a six-week quest chain fed by Elementary Voidcore Shards, so the earlier you begin, the sooner its bonus rolls and upgrades open.

3. Adjust Your UI and Addons

With API changes coming in, double-check your setup before entering serious content.

4. Lock in Your Class Choice

Balance changes are unlikely to shift dramatically again before launch. Now is the time to commit.

5. Prepare for Endgame Content

Whether it’s:

…getting ready early will give you a big advantage.

Final Thoughts

WoW Midnight is currently in that chaotic but exciting phase right before everything goes live.

We’re seeing:

  • Performance issues
  • System fixes
  • Addon changes
  • Class tuning

Some decisions feel questionable (especially timing-wise), but overall, the game is moving toward a more stable and balanced launch state.

Now the real question is:

Are you ready for the season start?

Because once raids and Mythic+ open — the real race begins.
