Preservation Evoker in Midnight at a Glance
Build, rotation and gear details follow the Icy Veins Preservation Evoker pages updated on 1 October 2026, and this page was reviewed on 12 October for patch 12.1 (Season 2). Re-check your talents once patch 12.1.5 lands on 13 October.
Preservation is a short-range healer built around stacked groups. You put Echo on players, ramp with Temporal Anomaly and Dream Breath, and cash everything in with Reversion and the new Apex talent, Merithra’s Blessing. It has the best mobility of any healer and the strongest raid cooldown in the game, Rewind, but little group utility.

What Changed Since The War Within
Midnight simplified the spec. If you last played Preservation in The War Within, these are the changes that matter.

Season 1 and patch 12.1 changes
- Season 1. Temporal Anomaly now applies Echo by itself. Resonating Sphere was removed, and Temporal Barrier replaces Temporal Anomaly when picked: it puts a large absorb shield on four players and applies Echo at 30% effectiveness. Fluttering Seedlings was redesigned to heal spread-out targets.
- Patch 12.1 (Season 2). Dream Breath’s periodic healing went up significantly and its upfront healing went down. Living Flame’s direct healing and Verdant Embrace’s healing were raised. Blizzard wanted Dream Breath back as a heal-over-time effect, and to give you better tools for triage healing and Mythic+.
Hero Talents and Talent Builds
Flameshaper is the recommended hero tree for every kind of content in Season 2. Both trees are viable.

Omnium Folio runes
The Omnium Folio (introduced in patch 12.0.7) gives small bonuses after a multi-week quest series, and you can swap them freely. Icy Veins recommends Rune of Unleashed Fire, Rune of Self-Mending, Rune of Lingering, Rune of Masterful Cunning and Rune of Overload. Merithra's Blessing: The Apex Talent
Merithra’s Blessing is the center of the Midnight rotation. It has three ranks, and each one makes Reversion stronger.

The practical rule from Icy Veins: keep Reversion on as many players as possible, and use Echo together with the Blessing so that one cast heals everyone carrying Echo. Because Dream Breath always triggers the Blessing at rank 3, Dream Breath on cooldown is the backbone of every ramp.
Rotation and Priorities
The Midnight rotation is simpler than before. The Icy Veins raid priority (Flameshaper) runs in this order:
- Keep Stasis on cooldown, and combine it with Tip the Scales when you can.
- Use Tip the Scales as often as possible.
- Keep Temporal Anomaly on cooldown.
- Keep Dream Breath on cooldown, cast at rank 1, so Merithra’s Blessing procs reliably.
- Spend Essence Bursts on Emerald Blossom to trigger Twin Echoes (extra Echoes).
- Cast as many Echoes as your Essence allows.
- Consume the Echoes with Merithra’s Blessing. If the Blessing did not proc, use Reversion instead.
- Cast Verdant Embrace after a ramp, when you have no Essence.
- Fill with max-rank Fire Breath to trigger Leaping Flames, and use Disintegrate when no healing is needed to recover mana.
- Ramp around Dream Breath. If Dream Breath is ready while you hold a Blessing, spend the Blessing first and start the next ramp with Dream Breath. If you have no Essence and no Essence Bursts, cast Verdant Embrace and Living Flame until Dream Breath is back.
- Living Flame on enemies. Cast offensively, it refunds part of its mana and generates Essence Bursts. Using it as a heal can be expensive.
- Inner Flame window. After Stasis you get Inner Flame, which raises heal-over-time healing and doubles the Essence Burst chance of Living Flame and Reversion. With the 12.1 two-piece set, each Essence Burst spent also fires a Living Flame. Spend your bursts on Emerald Blossom during this window. Cast a max-rank Fire Breath before Stasis, so Leaping Flames gives you a spare burst, and use Temporal Anomaly plus Merithra’s Blessing to refill bursts if you run dry.
- Mythic+. You still prioritize Merithra’s Blessing, but add Verdant Embrace to handle burst damage. Flameshaper’s extra Dream Breath charge and Lifecinders give you an answer for most dangerous moments.
Stats, Gear and Tier Set
Midnight applied a stat squish, so item stats are far lower than in The War Within. The stat priority is the same in raid and Mythic+: Intellect, Mastery, Critical Strike, Haste, Versatility. Mastery (Life-Binder) gives the biggest healing gain per point but no damage, so in Mythic+ you can trade some Mastery for Critical Strike or Haste if you have healing to spare. There is no Mastery cap; sim your character with QuestionablyEpic or Raidbots for exact numbers.
In Season 2 any item can be converted into a tier piece and keeps its stats, so the off-piece no longer matters much. Icy Veins lists these tier sources: Voidscarred Crown (helm, Voidscar Arena), Soulslither Spaulders (shoulders, The Coiled Altar), Awoken Dreadfang Cuirass (chest, Ula’tek), Pulverizing Pads (gloves, The Blinding Vale) and Cuisses of the Uncoiled Union (legs, The Coiled Altar). The 12.1 set strengthens Flameshaper most.

Icy Veins also advises that with Nebulous Voidcore you take a bonus roll from your first vault, which gives a 1/6 Myth track item from any dungeon or boss. Early Season 2 warning from Icy Veins: embellishments on Venomous Abyss crafts were changed less than a day before the season began, so wait a few days before spending on a craft.

Preservation Evoker in Mythic+
