Best Class in WoW Midnight Season 2: Quick Answer
The picks below come from lists read between 4 September and 12 October 2026. Patch 12.1 has been live since 11 August and Mythic+ opened on 18 August; patch 12.1.5 arrives on 13 October, so numbers may shift this week.
There is no single best class in Midnight. Each list measures something different, and the sources below often put the same spec a full tier apart. What holds up across them:

Every source also says the best player usually beats the best spec, and that nearly every spec can reach top Mythic+ and arena titles. Treat the tables below as a way to avoid bad matchups, not as a reason to drop a class you enjoy.
Best DPS for Mythic+ and Raid

For pushing keys, Elemental Shaman, Arms Warrior, Arcane Mage and Assassination Rogue are the specs all three views agree on. For raid, Marksmanship Hunter flips from 22nd in Mythic+ to first in Heroic logs. Augmentation Evoker is last or near last in Mythic+ on all three lists, so choose it for the support role, not for the ranking. The 6 October hotfixes moved several specs (Unholy Death Knight, Devourer Demon Hunter, Enhancement Shaman and Subtlety Rogue among them), and the wow.gg numbers were taken the same week.

Healers are where the lists split most. Holy Priest is first by average healing on wow.gg but B tier on both grading lists. Mistweaver Monk received a +15% buff to Invigorating Mists and Enveloping Mist on 6 October, after both lists were written. More in Midnight Best Healers and the Mythic+ tier list.
Best Classes for PvP in Season 2
PvP picks depend on the bracket, and the two views we compare disagree more than the PvE lists do. Icy Veins grades arena specs as a forecast built from Season 1 results and PTR testing; ArenaCoach reports round win rates from the Solo Shuffle ladder.

The two views measure different things, so a spec that needs a partner who covers its weaknesses looks stronger on the first than on the second. Nearly every spec can still reach Gladiator. Best Class for New and Returning Players
We have no measured numbers for difficulty, so we do not rank classes by it. Three facts help a new player more than a ranking:
- A combat assistant exists. Midnight has two built-in tools: Assisted Highlight (it shows the next ability) and the Single-Button Assistant (it casts for you). Wowhead’s setup guide was updated 1 August 2026 for patch 12.1. They cost some damage compared with a good player; the tools were added in patch 11.1.7 and have not been recalculated for Midnight specs.
- Tier lists matter little at low key levels. Method and Icy Veins both say the better player usually beats the better spec, so pick a class whose theme and toolkit you enjoy.
- Combat addons are restricted. Since patch 12.0 addons can show combat data but not react to it, so rotation helpers that worked in Dragonflight no longer do. Our Midnight best class for beginners guide covers the starter choices, and the Season 2 preparation guide covers gearing.

What Changes on 13 October (Patch 12.1.5)
Blizzard’s 12.1.5 announcement lists the Unbinding of Kith’ix raid, the Labyrinth of Kindo’jan, the Aqir Invasion event and the story campaign “The Promise of Tomorrow”. It lists no class changes, although the PTR notes did, so tier lists may move. For Season 2 Mythic+, Keystone Myth returns with targeted dungeon tuning, and the “Midnight Keystone Myth: Season 2” achievement needs a 3,600 rating. Re-check the lists above after 14 or 15 October before you commit to a main.

Which DPS class should I pick for Mythic+?
Elemental Shaman, Arcane Mage, Arms Warrior and Assassination Rogue are the consensus choices. For raid, the Heroic logs lead with Marksmanship Hunter, Demonology Warlock, Arcane Mage and Arms Warrior.
Which tank is safest this season?
Blood Death Knight: S tier on both Icy Veins and Method. Guardian Druid is the usual second choice.
Which healer should I bring to keys?
Holy Paladin is S tier on both Mythic+ lists. Restoration Shaman is S on Icy Veins and A on Method.
Which class is strongest in arena?
Assassination Rogue and Fire Mage are S tier both on Icy Veins and on the Solo Shuffle ladder. Arms Warrior and Affliction Warlock are S on Icy Veins alone.
Do the War Within picks still apply?
No. Retribution Paladin, Fire Mage, Holy Priest and Guardian Druid were the War Within Season 3 recommendations. Midnight changed the classes and added Devourer Demon Hunter, so none of that carries over.
