Key Takeaways

  • Odyle is the real limit: a free player regenerates 15 Odyle Energy every 3 hours, 120 a day, and pays it only when opening a reward cube: 20 at Krao Cave and Urugugu Canyon Exploration, 30 at Fire Temple Exploration, 40 for Conquest and Transcendence.
  • Item level picks the dungeon: Conquest starts at 700 with Krao Cave and Draupnir and steps up to 1,400 for Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island, Transcendence stage 1 wants 1,600, and the Hard modes ask 2,600 or 2,700 depending on the dungeon.
  • Know whose counter it is: Odyle, reward counts, Nightmare attempts and Ascension Trial entries belong to each character, while the unobtained cube count is shared by the whole server.
  • Watch the names: Nightmare and the Ascension Trial’s Nightmare Altar are different systems, and the Odylium Repository is a dungeon, not a currency.
  • Sources disagree in places: cube price, the Conquest counter, the Odylium Repository reward and membership regeneration differ between sites, and every such case is marked here instead of being settled quietly.
  • Ludra returns on 4 Nov: Normal needs item level 2,800 and Hard 3,000, but at the time of writing NC has not published the new mechanics, so treat raid details as provisional.

Names that cause most of the confusion

A large share of the questions players ask about AION 2 dungeons come down to one word meaning two things. The rest of this guide uses the terms exactly as listed here.

  • Item level: the wording NC itself uses for an entry requirement, for example in the Ludra notice. Older guides and many players say Gear Score; it is the same number.
  • Expedition: the family of dungeons with two modes, Exploration and Conquest. Hard mode is a tougher version of the Conquest dungeons, added in October.
  • Transcendence: a separate stage ladder with its own dungeons, built around groups of five.
  • Daily Dungeon: despite the name, a weekly pool of entries that the whole server shares.
  • Nightmare versus Nightmare Altar: Nightmare is a boss ladder paid in Phantasmal Fragments. Nightmare Altar is one of the dungeons used by the Ascension Trial, which has its own entries and rewards.
  • Odyle Energy versus Odylium Repository: the first is the currency that powers reward cubes, the second is a Daily Dungeon that NC added on 28 Oct.

What to run at your level and item level

Find the row that matches where you stand today. The last column is the catch that players tend to find out in their second week, not their first.

Situation Run this Costs The catch
Level 20, item level around 200 Krao Cave Exploration 20 Odyle per cube, once Odyle unlocks at level 22 Takes a party of one to five. Trackers list 200 as the minimum item level, while another site lists no minimum at all.
Level 28, item level 300 (trackers) Urugugu Canyon Exploration 20 Odyle per cube Needs at least two players, and two of them have to survive the boss Divine Auldor.
Level 30 (trackers), entries to spare Daily Dungeon: Daeva Bio-Research Base or Odylium Repository One of 14 weekly server-wide entries Pick one of the two for each entry: Odylium Repository pays Soul Crystals, Daeva Bio-Research Base pays Enhance Stones.
Level 35, item level 500 (trackers) Fire Temple Exploration 30 Odyle per cube The one Exploration dungeon here with the higher price. Solo entry is allowed.
Level 45, item level 700 Conquest at Krao Cave, then Draupnir 40 Odyle per cube Krao Cave drops weapons and accessories, Draupnir drops armor, so you need both for a full set.
Item level 1,400 and a partner Conquest at Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island 40 Odyle per cube Both dungeons need at least two players in every mode, so a solo player stalls here.
Item level 1,600 and a group of five Transcendence stage 1 40 Odyle per cube Pays Arcana cards. The mode is built for five, and the minimum party is disputed (see the source comparison).
Item level 1,000 to 1,500, no partner Ascension Trial on Easy or Normal One of 3 weekly entries Skip Easy unless the weekly reset is close, and save entries for Normal at 1,500.
Item level 2,000, entries still unused Ascension Trial on Hard One of 3 weekly entries Trackers allow only 2 deaths on Hard.
Item level 2,600 or 2,700 Hard mode: Krao Cave and Draupnir at 2,600, Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island at 2,700 Cube price not documented The point of Hard is Ariel Fragments and Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation. The weekly limit for Hard runs is not documented either.
Item level 2,800 or 3,000, a full ten Ludra, Normal or Hard, from 4 Nov 4 attempts a week per character (pre-return figure) At the time of writing the new mechanics were not public, so expect surprises.

Note: trackers also list Conquest at Fire Temple and Ferocious Horn Den from item level 2,100. NC’s November event counts clears in only four Conquest dungeons (Krao Cave, Draupnir, Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island), and NC never names the other two, so open your Expedition menu before you plan around them.

Level 45 is the first gate for almost everything above. Our leveling guide covers the free route there, and a powerleveling service exists for players who would rather skip it. To see how the item level figure itself is built, read the gear score guide.

Odyle Energy: what one week actually allows

Entering a dungeon costs no Odyle Energy. You spend it afterwards, on the reward cube at the end of a run, and it begins at level 22. Every character has its own pool, so an alt does not drain your main.

A free player regenerates 15 every 3 hours, which is 120 a day. The natural cap is 560, or 840 with Special Quai Membership, and consumable items can push the stored total up to 2,000. From empty, a free pool takes a little under five days to fill, so anything you leave unspent near the cap is regeneration you never see.

Cube Odyle per cube One day of regeneration buys Counter that also applies
Krao Cave or Urugugu Canyon Exploration 20 6 cubes 7 reward counts per dungeon each week
Fire Temple Exploration 30 4 cubes 7 reward counts per dungeon each week
Conquest 40 3 cubes +1 every 8 hours, holding up to 21
Transcendence 40 3 cubes 14 reward counts a week

Multiply a day by seven and the week is 840 Odyle. That is exactly 21 Conquest cubes at 40 each, the same number as the Conquest count cap, so a player who only does Conquest uses every count the game offers. Add Transcendence and the counters stop being the limit: its 14 weekly counts would cost 560 by themselves, two thirds of a free player’s week. In practice you choose between categories because of Odyle, not because you run out of entries.

Membership applies to every character on the server where it was bought. NC’s notice says that without it Odyle can be injected into a reward cube once, and with it twice, in Expeditions, Transcendence and Sanctuary. Check the cube preview in game for what the second injection adds. NC says only that membership raises the cap and that the exact numbers will follow, so the 840 figure comes from trackers and media guides. Whether membership also speeds up regeneration is disputed; the source comparison further down shows who says what.

Until 10 Nov PST, NC also mails 4 Odyle Energy per account per day as the Odyle Energy Boost, which is small next to the 120 you regenerate yourself, and the mail expires after 7 days.

Tip: reset times and the full daily routine sit in the daily and weekly checklist.

Expeditions: Exploration, Conquest and Hard mode

Expeditions have the most moving parts, so this section takes them one mode at a time.

Exploration

Exploration is the entry-level mode. Trackers list seven reward counts per dungeon each week, refilled on Wednesday and counted per character, and the cubes cost 20 or 30 Odyle as shown above. It is where you spend spare Odyle while your item level is still low. Save Odyle only in the last few days before level 45; earlier than that the pool caps at 560 and the surplus is lost.

Conquest

Every Conquest mode needs level 45. The three pairs trackers list are below, and each pair splits its loot, so progress means running both dungeons of the pair.

Pair Entry item level Loot split Gear level Guaranteed voucher after
Krao Cave and Draupnir 700 Krao Cave weapons and accessories, Draupnir armor 54 14 runs
Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island 1,400 Urugugu Canyon weapons and accessories, Vakron armor 70 21 runs
Fire Temple and Ferocious Horn Den 2,100, live status unconfirmed Fire Temple weapons and accessories, Ferocious Horn Den armor 86 28 runs

The guaranteed reward is a Gear Change Voucher, and the run counts come from the dungeon pages of MetaBot, which reads the game client. NC’s own Q&A confirms the part that matters for planning: the remaining reward counts and the attempts left before a guaranteed reward belong to the character, and they travel with it on a server transfer.

One more limiter sits on top: trackers describe a server-wide Remaining Unobtained Cube Count of 10 a week, shared by Conquest and Transcendence. Leaving a run without opening its cube still lowers it, and at zero you cannot enter either mode until Wednesday.

Hard mode

Hard arrived in two steps. Krao Cave and Draupnir Hard went live on 21 Oct (20 Oct in US Pacific time) with an entry item level of 2,600, and Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island Hard followed on 28 Oct at 2,700. Both versions give the boss a Frenzy timer of 4 minutes, hand each player 3 revives and pay more Kinah than Normal. Trackers add that Hard also needs level 45.

The drops are the reason to go. Hard can give Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation (Bound), which you can pick as your guaranteed reward, plus Ariel Fragments (Bound), and Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island guarantee an Ariel Fragment. Wrathful Mind, Will and Ego materials and a chance at an Expedition Hero Artwork are listed too. Ariel Fragments feed Substance Morph: 100 of them become one Daevanion Crystal: Ariel (Bound), up to 30 times per character, while a single fragment can also be turned into 5 Enhance Stones with no limit. NC added an Ariel Daevanion board for the crystals.

What nobody has documented yet is the Odyle price of a Hard cube, which counter a Hard run uses, and any Hard mode for Fire Temple or Ferocious Horn Den. NC has not announced those, even though the client data hints at them.

Groups that cannot find a fifth player can also look at an Expeditions boost, and the whole dungeons category sits in one place if you want to compare options.

Transcendence: stages, ranks and groups of five

Transcendence is stage content with a rank at the end of every stage. Season 1 has two dungeons: Deus Research Base, whose bosses are Gelcos, Nazmun and Atiel, and Shattered Arkanis, with Siliator of Deceit, Ruthilis of Pain and Talisra of the Void. It unlocks at level 45.

Stage Item level Boss tuning in NC’s 28 Oct notes
1 1,600 Boss Attack cut by 15%, boss HP cut by 6.5%
2 1,900 Boss Attack and Damage Boost cut by 10%, boss HP cut by 6.5%
3 2,200 Boss Attack and Damage Boost cut by 10%
4 2,500 Boss Attack and Damage Boost cut by 10%

The stage 1 figure is the safe one: several sites agree on it, while the higher thresholds come from MetaBot’s client reading only. The ranks run from C to S, and one guide says an S rank is what opens the next stage.

The reward is Arcana. Deus Research Base pays Bell, Compass and Chalice cards, and Shattered Arkanis pays Mirror, Parchment and Chalice. You get 14 reward counts a week, and a cube costs 40 Odyle. Because a Conquest cube costs the same 40, decide early in the week how much of your Odyle each mode gets.

Season 1 ends in mid-December: the Daeva Pass sale closes on 15 Dec at 11:00 PM PST, and MetaBot lists the rankings ending on 16 Dec. The same tracker says Season 2 adds the dungeon Submerged Life Temple, but NC has not posted about it.

Ascension Trial: tiers, deaths and entries

The Ascension Trial needs level 45 and gives each character 3 entries a week, refilled on Wednesday. The entry is spent when you walk in, and a failed attempt is not refunded.

Tier Item level Deaths allowed
Easy 1,000 5
Normal 1,500 3
Hard 2,000 2
Challenge 2,500 2

The death limits come from MetaBot’s client reading. The client also contains three higher tiers named Insane, Hell and Doom, but nothing current confirms they are open in Global, so treat them as unconfirmed.

The rewards are Enhance Stones, Growth Pet Chests, Amplify Stone Fragments and Ascension Binding Chests. MetaBot lists six dungeons for the trial: Nightmare Altar, Tyrant’s Hideout, Sanctum of Loathing, Depository of Fates, Forgotten Repository and Chamber of the Dead. No reliable source says which one is active at the moment, and the pre-launch articles that named one are out of date, so read the entrance rather than a guide.

Tip: unless the weekly reset is close, skip Easy and save your entries for Normal at 1,500.

Nightmare: the boss ladder and its attempts

Nightmare unlocks at level 45 and is a ladder of bosses paid in Phantasmal Fragments. It runs on attempts: you receive 2 a day, they bank up to 14 and they belong to each character. An attempt is spent only when you clear, so a wipe costs you nothing but time.

Extra attempts exist. A Nightmare Dungeon Challenge Ticket (Bound) comes from the Daeva Pass and, until it closes, the Halloween shop; trackers say each one adds an attempt and that item charges stop at +30. Since 28 Oct the Wind Breeze Merchants sell an Instant Clear Ticket: Nightmare as well, up to 14 per server each week at 30,000 Kinah (the Daily Dungeon section covers that shop). Using an Instant Clear from the lobby spends an attempt and gives no Rank Points.

Rank Points are tracked per character for Transcendence, Nightmare and the Ascension Trial, and they move with the character if you transfer. MetaBot lists the Season 1 top grade at 32,000 points for Nightmare and 450,000 for Transcendence. The client data holds many more bosses than most players have reached, and how many layers are open in the Global version is unconfirmed, so judge your progress by the boss you are on rather than a layer count you read online.

Daily Dungeon, Odylium Repository and Instant Clear Tickets

The Daily Dungeon gives you 14 entries a week, refilled on Wednesday and spent the moment you enter. NC’s Q&A states that its progress is counted for the whole server, so a second character on the same server does not bring more. Trackers put the unlock at level 30.

Two dungeons you can confirm

Daeva Bio-Research Base pays Enhance Stones, scaled by your score. Odylium Repository arrived with the 28 Oct patch as a second Daily Dungeon that shares the same entries, so you pick one or the other for each entry. NC’s patch notes say it pays Soul Crystals (Bound) according to your clear points. A third name, Crobakhi’s Secret Depository, appears in client data, but NC has never mentioned it, so do not count on it being open.

Skipping the run with tickets

An Instant Clear Ticket: Daily Dungeon claims the clear reward again without playing the run, and it still uses up one entry. Since 28 Oct NC sells it at the Wind Breeze Merchants, up to 14 per server each week, for 30,000 Kinah apiece. Without membership you still reach them through the NPC, and membership only adds a menu shortcut. The Halloween coin shop sold 7 more per server each week, but it closes with the maintenance that brings Ludra back. Other tickets, such as the Unknown Fissure Challenge Ticket from the Daeva Pass, add entries instead.

Because tickets cost Kinah, a steady Kinah income matters here; our Kinah farming guide covers the routes. If you simply want your entries cleared for you, there is also a Daily Dungeons boost.

Ludra returns on 4 Nov

NC removed Ludra from the full launch build on 5 Oct and promised it back with new and adjusted mechanics and attack patterns. The return date is 4 Nov, with Normal at item level 2,800 and Hard at 3,000, and both are open at once. Early Access Ludra gear is granted back to the characters that had it.

The raid is built for 10 players. Trackers list 4 attempts per raid each week, one final-boss kill a week and 2 revives per run, but all three limits come from the client before the return, and at the time of writing NC has not published the new rules. Plan around them as a starting guess, not a promise.

The return comes with a few time-limited extras. A Ludra Conquest Check-In runs from 4 Nov to 17 Nov PST and pays 7 rewards over 14 days. The Ludra Hunt event, until 24 Nov PST (25 Nov in Europe), awards titles to the first 20 parties per region that defeat Hard. Daeva Bootcamp, from 4 Nov to 17 Nov PST, pays Instant Clear Tickets, Intermediate Training Arcana and Resurrection Spiritstones by mail as global clear milestones are reached. Clears of Conquest at Krao Cave, Draupnir, Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island, in Normal or Hard, count toward it, and so do all Transcendence stages.

Per character or per server: what alts add

Counting is where alts either pay off or do nothing. NC’s server-transfer Q&A and the checklist sites give a consistent split.

Counter Counted per What a second character gets
Odyle Energy pool Character A fresh pool, so cubes on alts cost nothing from your main
Exploration reward counts Character Its own 7 per dungeon
Conquest and Transcendence reward counts, plus the pity Character Its own counts and its own progress toward the guaranteed voucher
Nightmare attempts Character Its own 2 a day, banking to 14
Ascension Trial entries Character Its own 3 a week
Raid attempts Character Its own 4 for each raid
Season Rank Points Character Separate points, which move with that character on transfer
Daily Dungeon entries, including Odylium Repository Server Shared pool
Remaining Unobtained Cube Count Server Nothing extra, it is shared by every character
Wind Breeze Instant Clear Tickets Server Nothing extra, the weekly 14 is shared
Special Quai Membership Server Covers every character on the server where it was bought, and none on another server

The practical result: run Odyle cubes and Nightmare on each character you actually play. If you change servers, your reward counts, pity and Rank Points go with the character, while Daily Dungeon progress stays with the server.

Where sources disagree

Most numbers in this guide come from NC’s own patch notes and notices, and the rest from trackers that read the game client, mainly MetaBot, plus media guides such as allthings.how, keengamer.com, games.gg and GamesFuze. Where they disagree, the comparison below shows both values and what to plan with.

Topic One side says The other side says Plan with
Krao Cave and Urugugu Canyon Exploration cube MetaBot, allthings.how and keengamer.com list 20 Odyle Some older guides give 30 20. The 30 belongs to Fire Temple Exploration.
Conquest reward counts MetaBot and allthings.how give one count every 8 hours, holding up to 21, and keengamer.com gives the same 8 hours MetaBot’s weekly-reset table also shows daily counters per pair, and games.gg says the old weekly limits on final-boss kills are gone The tooltip in game, because the client appears to carry both sets of counters.
Odylium Repository reward NC’s 28 Oct patch notes: Soul Crystals (Bound) MetaBot’s client table still shows pet chests, and a pre-launch article spoke of pet fragments Soul Crystals, then confirm in the reward preview.
Ascension Trial top tier at 2,500 GamesFuze and MetaBot call it Challenge Older guides call it Extreme Challenge.
Transcendence group size The in-game guide text quoted by MetaBot, GamesFuze and GamingProMax call it a five-player mode MetaBot’s entry table lets in groups of two to five Bring five, and check whether a smaller group is accepted.
Membership and Odyle regeneration NC’s benefit list shows a higher cap only, and MetaBot’s client data shows the same 15 every 3 hours The Odyle pages of allthings.how and games.gg claim 50% faster regeneration, though both sites’ own checklist pages mention only the cap 15 every 3 hours until NC says otherwise.
Fire Temple and Ferocious Horn Den Conquest MetaBot and GamingProMax list both at item level 2,100 NC’s November event names only four Conquest dungeons and neither of these Treat as unconfirmed until they show in your menu.

Two rules explain most of the gaps. Data read from the client can describe content that is not switched on in your region, and reward numbers from the Korean version should never be mixed into Global planning. When a figure here is marked as trackers or client data, it has no official confirmation.

What changed since launch

NC has touched dungeons in nearly every weekly patch. These are the changes that affect what you run, newest first, with the dates as NC published them.

Date What changed What it means for you
15 Dec and 16 Dec, upcoming The Season 1 Daeva Pass sale ends at 11:00 PM PST on 15 Dec, and MetaBot lists the Season 1 rankings ending on 16 Dec Use up Season 1 progress first, and check the checklist guide for reset clocks, which have moved before
4 Nov, upcoming Ludra returns at 2,800 Normal and 3,000 Hard; the Halloween event and its coin shop end with the same maintenance Halloween coins expire with this maintenance (4 Nov CET), so spend them first, then prepare a ten-player group
4 Nov to 17 Nov PST, upcoming Daeva Bootcamp and the Ludra Conquest Check-In Clears of Conquest at Krao Cave, Draupnir, Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island (Normal or Hard) and all Transcendence stages count toward global milestones, with rewards sent by mail

Early Oct, NC Q&A (updated 20 Oct) NC fixes the scope of counters: cube reward counts and pity count per character, Daily Dungeon progress is server-wide, Rank Points are per character The split used in the character-versus-server table above
5 Oct Global launch, with Ludra left out of the build Numbers from before this date belong to Early Access or the Korean version

Mistakes that waste Odyle or entries

These are the errors that this system punishes specifically, rather than generic advice.

  • Leaving a cube unopened: a Conquest or Transcendence run you abandon before opening the cube still lowers the server-wide count of 10, and at zero both modes are locked until Wednesday.
  • Entering an Ascension Trial tier you cannot clear: the entry is spent when you walk in, so a failed attempt costs one of your 3 for the week.
  • Reading Nightmare Altar as Nightmare: they run on different counters and pay different rewards, so check which one a guide means before you copy its plan.
  • Letting Odyle sit at the cap: a pool that is full cannot take more, so unspent regeneration is lost. Open the cheaper cubes before it fills.
  • Treating Instant Clear Tickets as free: each one still spends an entry or attempt, and Nightmare used from the lobby gives no Rank Points.
  • Planning from old data: a list from before 28 Oct will miss Hard mode at Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island, and tables that quote 30 Odyle for Krao Cave are wrong, because 30 is Fire Temple’s price.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much Odyle Energy does a Krao Cave cube cost?

It costs 20, the same as Urugugu Canyon Exploration. The figure of 30 belongs to Fire Temple Exploration, and Conquest and Transcendence cubes cost 40.

What should I run at item level 1,400?

Conquest at Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island opens at that level, but you need a partner because both dungeons require at least two players. Without a partner, keep running Krao Cave and Draupnir Conquest, and use Ascension Trial Easy (1,000) only if the weekly reset is close.

How many times can I run dungeons each week?

It depends on the mode. Exploration gives 7 reward counts per dungeon, Conquest refills one count every 8 hours up to 21 (trackers; check the tooltip), Transcendence gives 14, the Daily Dungeon gives 14 shared entries, Nightmare banks 2 attempts a day up to 14 and the Ascension Trial gives 3 entries. Odyle Energy usually runs out before the counters do.

Do I lose my guaranteed reward if I skip opening the cube?

Nothing we checked says the pity resets, and the cube is worth opening regardless (the Conquest section explains the shared count). The attempts left until your guaranteed reward belong to the character.

Is the Daily Dungeon per character or per server?

Per server. NC’s Q&A says its progress is counted server-wide, and the 14 weekly entries are shared with the Odylium Repository.

What is the difference between Nightmare and the Ascension Trial?

Nightmare is a boss ladder with 2 daily attempts and Phantasmal Fragments. The Ascension Trial has 3 weekly entries, four documented tiers from 1,000 to 2,500 and rewards such as Enhance Stones. Nightmare Altar is only one of the trial’s dungeons.

Do Hard modes need 2,600 or 2,700?

Both, by dungeon. Krao Cave and Draupnir Hard need 2,600, and Urugugu Canyon and Vakron Sky Island Hard need 2,700.

When does Ludra return and what item level does it need?

On 4 Nov. Normal needs 2,800 and Hard needs 3,000, and both are open at once. at the time of writing NC has not published the new mechanics.
