Key Takeaways

  • Three skill types: Active, Passive and Stigma Skills each follow their own rules, and only the first two share the normal upgrade path.
  • Skill Points stop at 10: they raise Active and Passive Skills from level 1 to level 10, and that is the hard cap for them.
  • Daevanion adds four levels: the first four Daevanion Boards carry your Active and Passive Skills from level 10 to level 14.
  • Arcana and Soul Bindings finish the job: they push the skills you actually use beyond level 14 toward 16 and 20.
  • Stigmas are separate: they are upgraded with Stigma Shards, not Skill Points, and can reach level 20 in Season 1.
  • Be selective: you cannot max everything, so pour resources into the skills that define your build.

How AION 2 Skill Progression Works

AION 2 does not give you one tidy menu for raising skills. Instead, several systems stack on top of each other, and each one covers a different slice of the road from level 1 to level 20. Skill Points do the first part and then stop dead at level 10. After that, Daevanion Boards, Arcana and Soul Bindings are the only ways to keep climbing. Stigma Skills run on a completely separate track that is fed by Stigma Shards. It feels like a lot of moving parts for what should be a simple upgrade, but once you see where each piece fits, the whole thing becomes far easier to follow.

New to the system? The AION 2 Daevanion Board guide walks through it.

If you are a complete newcomer, it helps to get the basics of the game down first and then come back here for the details. The table below sums up each system in plain words.

System What it does
Skill Points Raise Active and Passive Skills up to level 10
Daevanion Boards Add up to +4 levels to your skills
Arcana Add levels to specific Active or Passive Skills
Soul Bindings Gear traits that can increase skill levels
Stigma Shards Upgrade Stigma Skills on their own track

So the usual route for a normal skill is Skill Points first, then Daevanion, then Arcana and Soul Bindings on top. Stigmas ignore that whole chain. It also helps to think of the levels as three bands: levels 1 to 10 come from Skill Points, levels 10 to 14 come from the Daevanion Boards, and everything above 14 depends on the cards and gear traits you manage to collect.

A higher skill level is not only about bigger damage numbers. Active Skills unlock new Specialties as they hit certain breakpoints, which means a leveled skill can change how it plays, not just how hard it hits. We go through those milestones in detail further down.

Because every layer of this system eats resources, it also eats currency. If you are running low on Kinah while you gear up and unlock things, you can top up your Kinah and keep your focus on the upgrades that matter.

Note: AION 2 only launched globally on 2026-10-05, so thresholds, sources and caps described here may be adjusted by later patches.

AION 2 Active and Passive Skills

The game splits your class abilities into Active and Passive Skills, while Stigmas form a third, separate category. Each of the three behaves differently, so it is worth knowing what you are actually upgrading.

  • Active Skills: these are the buttons you press in combat. They come with Specialties, which work like perks that modify the skill.
  • Passive Skills: these improve your class automatically in the background and have no Specialty levels at all.
  • Stigma Skills: a different set of abilities with their own upgrade resource, covered in a later section.

Active Skills have five Specialties in total, but you can only run three of them at once. Their milestones sit at levels 8, 12 and 16, while the slots that let you equip them open at levels 8, 12 and 20. In other words, unlocking a Specialty does not mean you can freely use it straight away, because you also need an open slot for it. Passive Skills skip this mechanic completely. Each extra level simply raises the highlighted values of the passive, so there is nothing to choose or slot.

Both Active and Passive Skills are raised through Skill Points, Daevanion, Arcana and the best pieces of gear. Here is how the three skill types compare.

Skill type How progression works
Active Skills Higher damage and effects, plus Specialty unlocks
Passive Skills Their passive damage or effects increase
Stigma Skills Separate abilities upgraded with Stigma Shards

Most of this guide concentrates on Active Skills, because those are the ones you will be investing in while you level up. Passives are much simpler to understand, since there are no Specialties to think about. One small shortcut is worth remembering: putting even a single point into any passive is plenty during the early levels, because the bonus switches on immediately.

If the early levels feel slow and you would like to reach the point where these choices matter sooner, a powerleveling service can take care of the climbing so you can start planning your build with real options in front of you.

How Skill Specialties Work in AION 2

Specialties are modifiers attached to Active Skills. They do a wide range of things: extending range, adding crowd control, shortening cooldowns, or giving an ability an entirely new interaction. That is why leveling a skill is not just a matter of raising its base damage. Every Active Skill has five Specialty options, but both the options and the number of slots you can use unlock at different levels. The milestones are 8, 12, 16 and 20.

Skill level What unlocks
8 First three Specialties and the first Specialty slot
12 Fourth Specialty and the second slot
16 Fifth Specialty
20 Third Specialty slot

Level 16 is the big goal for your best Active Skills, because that is where the fifth Specialty arrives, and it is usually the strongest of the set. Level 20 is the next important step, since it lets you run three Specialty effects at the same time. Doing this for every single ability is not realistic. You simply will not have enough resources or character levels. Concentrate on the skills that define your build, and only then spread out to the rest once your core is where you want it.

Tip: Treat level 16 as the first real finish line for each core Active Skill. Pushing to level 20 is a bonus for the abilities that carry your build, not a requirement for every button on your bar.

How to Get and Spend Skill Points

Skill Points are the first step for both Active and Passive Skills. Your abilities start at level 1, and you spend Skill Points to raise them until they reach level 10, which is the hard cap for this resource. From there, Daevanion takes your skills to level 14, and later Arcana and gear let you push toward levels 16 and 20. Most Skill Points arrive naturally while you play. The main sources are:

  • Main Story Quests
  • Sealed Dungeons

You will collect enough points to upgrade most of your skills, but spreading them evenly is a mistake. At the very start you can get away with picking whatever looks fun to you. Later, shift your points toward the skills that support your build, so none of them end up sitting in abilities you rarely press.

Since Sealed Dungeons feed both Skill Points and Daevanion Crystals, they are a natural place to spend your time. If daily runs are eating too many of your evenings, you can hand the daily dungeons to a booster and save your own time for the rest of the progression.

How Daevanion Boards Increase Skill Levels

Once Skill Points can no longer upgrade a skill past level 10, Daevanion Boards take their place. The first four boards contain dedicated skill nodes. Blue nodes raise Active Skills, and green nodes raise Passive Skills. Every Active and Passive Skill shows up once on each of those four boards, so the system can add four more levels in total and takes you from level 10 to level 14.

In practice, it is not that different from spending Skill Points. It just looks like a simplified skill tree, and you click nodes instead of pressing a plus button. The Daevanion Crystals used to unlock these nodes mainly come from side content, including side quests and Sealed Dungeons. Because each skill appears on every one of the four boards, there is a clear and predictable path to level 14, which makes this the easiest stretch of the whole system.

How Arcana Increases Skill Levels

Once your skills sit at level 14, Arcana becomes one of the main progression systems, together with gear and Soul Bindings. Arcana Cards can give extra levels to certain Active or Passive Skills, depending on the card. That makes them one of the main ways to push core abilities toward level 16 and eventually level 20.

Unlike Daevanion, this is not a flat +1 on everything. The cards you collect have to match the skills your build actually uses, which makes Arcana far more targeted and a little more grindy. The main place to farm it is Transcendence Dungeons, where the cubes you receive at the end drop Arcana Cards.

Tip: Do not be fooled by card rarity. Look for the cards that boost your Active Skills, since that is often more useful than a flashier card. The exception is a legendary card that can change the direction of your whole build.

Repeating Transcendence content is the dependable way to collect better cards, and if you would rather skip part of that grind, a Transcendence run is one way to speed things up.

How Gear and Soul Bindings Increase Skill Levels

Gear is another route to higher skill levels, through Soul Bindings. These are traits that can roll normal stats such as Attack or HP, but they can also add levels to Active or Passive Skills. They are extremely handy when you are chasing the level 16 or level 20 milestone and Arcana alone has not got you there. The catch is that different gear slots support different kinds of skill bonuses.

Gear slot Skill bonus
Rings Active Skills
Weapons Active Skills
Other gear Can roll Passive Skill levels

Rings are the best place to chase Active Skill upgrades. Weapons can roll them too, but they are rarely worth the effort at the moment. If you are around level 45 and getting ready to grind the Abyss, rolling for Active Skill traits on your weapon is not a good use of resources. General combat stats matter much more at that point, and even a slight bump to your damage goes a long way, because the gear in the Abyss is not normalized.

AION 2 Stigma Skill Progression

Stigma Skills sit apart from your Active and Passive Skills. Each class has 13 Stigma Skills, but you start with only four usable slots. Choosing which ones support your build is therefore just as important as leveling them. They are a more advanced system, so you do not need to worry about them at the beginning of your journey.

Raising a Stigma’s level unlocks additional effects. What you must remember is that Skill Points, Daevanion Boards, Arcana and Soul Bindings have no effect on Stigmas at all. They run on their own resource, Stigma Shards. You can buy these from three places:

  • Abyss Shop
  • Shugo Festival Shop
  • Nightmare Shop

The Abyss Shop is your default source, which is why farming the Abyss becomes so important once you start caring about Stigmas. In Season 1, Stigma Skills can reach level 20. As with ordinary Active Skills, you will not be able to raise all 13, so decide early which Stigmas fit your build and put your Shards there first.

The more Abyss Points you bring in, the more Shards you can buy, so if the grind feels heavy, an Abyss Points farm is a simple way to keep your Stigma upgrades moving.

Warning: Do not spend Skill Points, Daevanion Crystals or Arcana expecting them to help a Stigma. None of them touch Stigma levels, so every Stigma upgrade has to come from Shards.

AION 2 Skill Progression Tips

Skill progression gets much easier once you accept that the upgrades themselves are fairly straightforward. The only thing that tends to confuse people is that you need three different menus for it, not counting the inventory window. A single window would have been simpler, but that is how the game is built, so it is best to plan around it.

The most useful advice is not to spread yourself thin. Decide which skills you need to upgrade first, then run Sealed Dungeons or Transcendence Dungeons depending on what you need right now. That way you waste less time. Here are some other tips:

  1. Get your core Active Skills to level 10 first.
  2. Aim for level 16 before forcing everything to level 20.
  3. Do not ignore Passives, because they work in the background and one point already activates them.
  4. Farm Transcendence Dungeons for better Arcana.
  5. Treat rings as your best source of Soul Bindings for Active Skills.
  6. Focus on your build instead of trying to be a jack-of-all-trades.

It also helps to remember that a skill level is the sum of several systems stacked together. Skill Points are only the beginning. The Daevanion Boards, Arcana and Soul Bindings are what push your best abilities into their strongest Specialty milestones. If a skill feels stuck, ask which of those layers you have not touched yet, and go there next.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the three types of skills in AION 2?

AION 2 has Active Skills, Passive Skills and Stigma Skills. Active and Passive Skills share the same progression chain of Skill Points, Daevanion Boards, Arcana and Soul Bindings, while Stigmas are upgraded separately with Stigma Shards.

How do you level skills past level 10 in AION 2?

Skill Points stop working once an Active or Passive Skill reaches level 10. The first four Daevanion Boards add four more levels, which gets you to level 14, and Arcana plus Soul Bindings supply the extra levels needed to reach 16 and 20.

How do you get Stigma Shards in AION 2?

Stigma Shards come from the Abyss Shop, the Shugo Festival Shop and the Nightmare Shop. The Abyss Shop is the main repeatable source, because Abyss Points can be exchanged there for more Shards.

Should you level every skill equally in AION 2?

No. Your main Active Skills gain far more from reaching levels 16 and 20 than unused abilities gain from a few random extra levels. Put your resources into your core rotation, your strongest passives and your important Stigmas first.

Where do Skill Points and Daevanion Crystals come from?

Skill Points mainly come from Main Story Quests and Sealed Dungeons. Daevanion Crystals come mostly from side content, including side quests and Sealed Dungeons.

What is the best way to get Arcana Cards?

Transcendence Dungeons are the main place to farm them, because the cubes you receive at the end of a run drop Arcana Cards. Look for cards that boost the Active Skills you use, since those often help more than a card that is simply rarer.

Which gear gives skill levels through Soul Bindings?

Rings and weapons can roll Active Skill levels, while other gear can roll Passive Skill levels. Rings are the better choice for Active Skills, because general combat stats matter more on a weapon when you are heading into the Abyss.
