Gathering Gold in Midnight at a Glance
Gold-per-hour numbers change with every market, so this guide, reviewed on 12 October 2026 for patch 12.1 (Season 2), gives setups and routes, not promises. Our general gold guides are the gold farming guide (professions and market timing) and the solo gold farms guide.
Gathering needs no crafting knowledge, but it runs into supply: Icy Veins ranked Mining, Herbalism and Skinning in the B tier of gold professions on 6 August 2026 and described a “massive glut” of materials, with a hope for improvement as Season 2 demand arrives. The setups below are for squeezing the most from each hour, not for avoiding that market risk.

Race, Stats and Specializations
Gathering has three stats on gear. Finesse procs increase the amount you gather, and Perception procs find the rare reagents: Dazzling Thorium and elemental motes from Mining, and motes and Nocturnal Lotus from Herbalism.

Mining specialization
- Put 40 points into Meticulous Mining first. It lets you mine while mounted, which Icy Veins considers strong enough to take before anything else.
- Then invest in Plentiful Ores for extra skill and more Dazzling Thorium. The Refulgent Copper sub-node is probably the most valuable, because the ore has so many uses.
- Then pick up the other base ore deposits (Umbral Tin and Brilliant Silver), and finish with Over-LODED if you have the points. Do not go deeper into Meticulous Mining: Seam and Rich deposits are not common or profitable.
Herbalism specialization
- Put 40 points into Botany first to herb while mounted, unless you are a Druid or use the Sky Golem mount, which give the same effect.
- Botany also holds the seeds and mulch branches. Magical Mulch guarantees a Finesse proc, Imbued Mulch a Perception proc, and Empowered Mulch the maximum herb rank.
- Bountiful Harvests is the best investment once you can herb mounted: it raises skill, stats and maximum yield per gather, and helps you find Nocturnal Lotus.
- Midnight Overload is the last investment. It only helps with elemental nodes. Since each Midnight zone has a single element, maximize the mote you want and farm only that zone.
Nodes and Zones
Midnight has three base ores (Refulgent Copper, Umbral Tin and Brilliant Silver) and five herbs (Tranquility Bloom, Argentleaf, Azeroot, Mana Lily and Sanguithorn). The special nodes are where the money is.

Your first special node teaches Overload Infused Deposit (Mining) or Overload Infused Herb (Herbalism). It gives an extra Knowledge Point the first time you use it on each type. Each new type of herb also gives a Knowledge Point, and eight profession treasures give up to 24 more, so gather in new zones early.
Farming Routes and Consumables
- Zul’Aman, Mining and Herbalism. The farmer ElonCS (via Icy Veins) puts Refulgent Razorstone on both gathering tools, drinks Argentleaf Tea, uses Darkmoon Firewater and a Haranir Phial of Finesse, and runs the addons FarmHud and Routes. Open every chest you pass: Bind-on-Equip gear sells on the Auction House and raises your hourly gold.
- Voidstorm, Skinning. Bastion of Might is a reliable group skinning spot. The same consumables apply, including Darkmoon Firewater and Refulgent Razorstone.
- Harandar, group cloth. Cloth only drops for Tailors. Take Fabric Specialist for more cloth, and Nimble Needlework with at least 20 points, because without them Arcanoweave and Sunfire Silk won’t drop. Search the custom group finder for a Zul’Aman or Harandar group. One Reddit player reported 106 Bright Linen, 74 high-quality Bright Linen, 25 high-quality Sunfire Silk and 19 high-quality Arcanoweave in 20 minutes in Zul’Aman.
- Solo cloth. Shadowguard Point at Tier 1 in Delves: pull the whole area at once, clear it and reset. Open-world solo farming works worse; the first few kills drop cloth, then there is a dry spell. Humanoid-heavy areas in Eversong and Zul’Aman are the best bet.
Icy Veins also notes that Tailoring and Skinning are weaker gathering professions than Mining and Herbalism, which respawn faster and yield more. A single Sunfire Silk Backpack takes 32 Sunfire Silk plus bolts, so many Tailors buy rare cloth on the Auction House.
Selling and Timing
- Sell on raid days. Icy Veins suggests the days when crafters are busy: Wednesday, Sunday and Tuesday are typical, depending on your server.
- Know who buys what. Ores go to Engineering, Jewelcrafting and Blacksmithing. Herbs go to Alchemy and Inscription. Skins go to Leatherworking.
- Track the price. The Undermine Exchange shows price swings for each material on your server, and which one to farm at the moment.
- Don’t assume last year’s numbers. Material prices shift with every season. Compare real gold per hour on your server before committing to a route.

Old War Within Farms That No Longer Apply
