MoP Classic Class Rankings: Phase 5 Quick Answer
Rankings reviewed on 12 October 2026 for Tier 16, the Siege of Orgrimmar raid. PvE tiers come from Wowhead (tanks 8 Aug, healers 11 Aug, DPS 17 Aug 2026); PvP tiers from Icy Veins (1 June 2026, third and final arena season).
The old tier list in this guide was written in July 2025, before the first raid opened, and the order has changed a lot: Survival Hunter and Frost Mage, for example, were S-tier at the start and are now B and C. If you read only one table, use this one.

Every source says the same thing in small print: every spec can clear all Phase 5 content, and a lower tier only makes it harder. Pick what you enjoy, then use the tables below for details. Gear and set bonuses are covered in our other guides, such as the Survival Hunter guide.
Mists of Pandaria Classic Class Tier List (Overall)
There is no single overall list that the major sites keep up to date. These are the three Phase 5 role lists from Wowhead, which are built for Siege of Orgrimmar progression and reclears.
DPS (Wowhead, 17 August 2026)

Wowhead notes that Warriors and Shamans look weaker on personal damage than their tier suggests, because Skull Banner and Stormlash add a lot of raid damage. Warcraft Tavern’s Phase 5 list (12 June 2026, Heroic 90th-percentile logs) also puts Affliction Warlock first, followed by Windwalker Monk and Demonology Warlock.

Wowhead calls healer balance “closer than it has ever been in Classic”. Holy Priest is the best healer on fights where the raid stacks and Divine Star works well, and Mistweaver Monk has very high output on fights with a damage amplifier. What’s the Best Class to Play in Mists of Pandaria Classic?
It depends on what you want to do. The table gives the Phase 5 starting point for each goal; details are in the sections that follow.

Raid composition matters more than a letter: a 25-man raid with three or four Warlocks already is better off adding a class with raid buffs. Wowhead warns exactly that about Affliction.
S-Tier Specializations – Top Performers in MoP Classic
PvE
- Affliction Warlock (DPS). Had a rough start and now scales strongly with gear. Soul Swap spreads damage-over-time effects to several targets and can also extend dots that were snapshotted with Bloodlust and buffs such as the Sinister Primal Diamond. Wowhead names The Fallen Protectors and Kor’kron Dark Shaman fights as places where this shines, and says there are few Siege of Orgrimmar fights where it cannot be done. Weakness: little raid utility.
- Guardian Druid (tank). S-tier in both 25-man and 10-man Wowhead lists.
- Protection Paladin (tank). S-tier in 25-man, A-tier in 10-man.
- Discipline Priest (healer). The only S-tier healer in Wowhead’s Phase 5 list.
PvP (arena, third and final season)
Icy Veins ranks classes, not specs, for 2v2 and 3v3, and adds that the right team composition can lift a B-tier class to an A-tier comp.

MoP Classic Leveling Class Tier List – Fastest Specs to 90
No major site publishes a ranked leveling tier list for MoP Classic, so we do not invent one. These are the picks that the class leveling guides at Warcraft Tavern and Icy Veins recommend most often:

Best Class for Beginners in Mists of Pandaria Classic
There is no ranking for difficulty either, and we do not have measured numbers. The following is what the guides agree on and what the class design makes obvious:
- Hunter. A pet that tanks, no minimum range in MoP, and a rotation built around one resource. Warcraft Tavern’s Hunter leveling guide recommends Beast Mastery because the pet makes solo content easy. Raid-level Survival is harder, because Wowhead describes its main complexity as managing the flow of Focus.
- Tanks: Guardian Druid and Protection Paladin are the S-tier 25-man tanks and Wowhead says all tanks can clear Phase 5, so choose by playstyle.
- Healers: Wowhead says healer balance is closer than it has ever been in Classic, so pick the style you like rather than a tier.

For raid DPS, Affliction Warlock is the only S-tier spec in Wowhead’s August 2026 list. For tanks, Guardian Druid and Protection Paladin lead. For healers, Discipline Priest leads. All specs can clear Phase 5 content.
Which class is best for PvP?
In Icy Veins’ June 2026 list for the final PvP season, Warrior, Warlock, Monk, Balance Druid and Elemental Shaman are the S-tier DPS classes, and Restoration Druid and Mistweaver Monk are the S-tier healers.
Is Survival Hunter still good?
It was S-tier at the start of MoP Classic. In Wowhead’s Phase 5 list it is B-tier for damage, but it is mobile and brings useful pet utility. See the Survival Hunter guide.
What is the fastest class to level?
Monk is the most common answer, thanks to the Enlightenment 50% experience buff from daily quests. Feral Druid, Guardian Druid and Hunter are also strong.
Do tier lists change between phases?
Yes, and they changed a lot between Phase 1 and Phase 5. Wowhead warns that its lists are weighted toward progression and will change as gear improves.
What is the best class for tanking in a 10-man?
Guardian Druid is S-tier in Wowhead’s 10-man list; Brewmaster Monk and Protection Paladin follow in A-tier.
