MoP Classic Legendary Cloak: Phase 5 Status
Updated 12 October 2026. Chapter V went live with MoP Classic Phase 5 on 2 June 2026, so the whole legendary cloak quest line can now be finished. Checked against Wowhead’s legendary cloak guide (reviewed 25 May 2026) and Warcraft Tavern.
You can now finish Wrathion’s five chapters and turn an item level 600 epic cloak into one of six legendary cloaks. The Siege of Orgrimmar kill of Garrosh Hellscream is the last step. Everything before it can be done through Celestial Dungeons, because MoP Classic has no Raid Finder.

Legendary Cloak Overview in MoP Classic
The quest line is split into five chapters. Originally they came with the five major patches of Mists of Pandaria. In MoP Classic one chapter arrives with each phase, and the chapters must be done in order starting with A Legend in the Making. The start quest is given by Wrathion at the Tavern in the Mists in The Veiled Stair (about 54.6, 72.6).

After you own a legendary cloak you can reach Ordos, the world boss on the Timeless Isle. This access is account-wide. Phase 5 also lowered the Celestial currency prices of many quest items and made several of them drop from Siege of Orgrimmar bosses.
Extra purchases at the Blacktalon Quartermaster in The Veiled Stair (54.4, 72.8): another Sha-Touched gem for 10,000 gold, an epic cloak for 10,000 gold, an Eye of the Black Prince for 2,500 gold, and a Timeless Essence of the Black Dragonflight (the legendary upgrade) for 125 gold. Legendary Cloaks and Their Effects
There are six legendary cloaks with four proc effects. Tanks and physical DPS have both Agility and Strength versions.

MoP Legendary Cloak Walkthrough
- The chain goes through raids, dungeons, scenarios, PvP and reputation grinds.
- You cannot skip quests, and alts have to repeat the whole line.
- Time estimates from Wowhead assume you get quest items from random Celestial Dungeons, have no reputation with The Black Prince yet, and have not done the Isle of Thunder scenarios. Passive raiding makes Chapter I about 1 hour and Chapter III about 2 to 3 hours.
Chapter I: Trial of the Black Prince (Phase 1)
About 4 hours, or around 1 hour if you collect the drops while raiding. Reward: one Sha-Touched gem, which fits only Sha-Touched weapons from Terrace of Endless Spring and Heart of Fear (or bought with August Stone Fragments from Celestial Dungeons). Our Sha-Touched gems guide covers the weapons.
- Stranger in a Strange Land. Alliance: Brewmaster Tsu at the Shrine of Seven Stars (87.4, 68.0). Horde: Kurong Caskhead at the Shrine of Two Moons (62.2, 13.2). Then find Wrathion in The Veiled Stair.
- A Legend in the Making. Listen to Wrathion.
- Trial of the Black Prince. Reach Honored with The Black Prince by killing level 90 mogu and mantid in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Townlong Steppes and Dread Wastes. A good spot is the north side of Zan’vess in the Dread Wastes. A Battle Standard of Coordination raises reputation gains, and grouping up does not reduce them. Rogues with Fangs of the Father can skip this quest.
- The Strength of One’s Foes. Collect 10 Sigils of Power and 10 Sigils of Wisdom. They drop from end bosses of Celestial Dungeons, all bosses of Mogu’shan Vaults, Heart of Fear and Terrace of Endless Spring, and the first eight Siege of Orgrimmar bosses. You can also buy them for 15 August Stone Shards each from Sendala the Timeless in the Shrine of Two Moons or Seven Stars.
- Fear Itself or When in Doubt. One is enough: defeat the Sha of Fear in Terrace of Endless Spring for the Chimera of Fear, or the Sha of Doubt on Celestial difficulty in the Temple of the Jade Serpent for the Chimera of Doubt.
- Breath of the Black Prince. Meet Wrathion at the top of the steps in Mason’s Folly and pick your gem:

Chapter II: Wrathion's War (Phase 2)
About 3 hours. The chapter has an Alliance and a Horde version with the same structure. The reward is the Eye of the Black Prince.
Alliance
- Incoming… and Meet the Scout (Lyalia in the Vale, then Scout Lynna at Krasarang Cove).
- A King Among Men: follow Varian Wrynn, find Marshal Troteman and Hilda Hornswaggle, and kill 25 Horde.
- Lion’s Landing: fire the Flare Launcher in Krasarang Cove to signal the fleet, then speak to Wrathion (The Measure of a Leader).
- The Prince’s Pursuit and A Test of Valor, in parallel: reach Revered with The Black Prince by killing Horde forces on the southern shores of Krasarang Wilds, and earn 1,600 Valor Points. The rare mobs at Domination Point give 500 reputation each.
- A Change of Command: kill Warlord Bloodhilt at Domination Point. The text asks for a group, but many specs can solo it with decent gear.
- The Lion Roars: play a battleground at Temple of Kotmogu and Silvershard Mines (it used to require wins).
- Call of the Packmaster: return to Wrathion for the Eye.
Horde
- Incoming… and Meet the Scout (Sunwalker Dezco, then Scout Rokla in Krasarang Wilds).
- The Might of the Warchief: fight with Garrosh’s forces and kill 25 Alliance. Domination Point: summon the Horde fleet. The Measure of a Leader: speak to Wrathion.
- The Prince’s Pursuit and A Test of Valor (Revered, 1,600 Valor).
- A Change of Command: defeat High Marshal Twinbraid. Glory to the Horde: battlegrounds. The Soul of the Horde: return to Wrathion.
Valor Points need to be earned, not spent. The Valor requirement was 6,000 in the original game and 3,000 later; Wowhead now lists 1,600 for MoP Classic. The Eye can also be bought again for 2,500 gold.
Chapter III: Two Princes (Phase 3)
About 5 hours, or 2 to 3 hours if you collect drops while raiding. This is the longest chapter. You must first have opened the Isle of Thunder: Alliance report to Scout Captain Elsia and Horde to Vereesa Windrunner at the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes (Thunder Calls, started on entering the Shrines).
- Meet Me Upstairs. Wrathion is on the second floor of the Tavern in the Mists. He gives you two quests that run in parallel.
- I Need a Champion. Reach Exalted with The Black Prince by killing mogu, Zandalari and saurok on the Isle of Thunder. At Revered you can buy a Grand Commendation of the Black Prince, which halves the time to Exalted. Southern Diremoor is a high-rate spot.
- Secrets of the First Empire. Collect 20 Secrets of the Empire and 40 Trillium Bars. Trillium Bars are made by Alchemists (Transmute) and Miners (Smelt Trillium) and are sold on the auction house. Secrets drop in Throne of Thunder, the first eight Siege of Orgrimmar bosses, and from Celestial Dungeon end bosses; Sendala sells them for 5 August Stone Shards each.
- The Thunder Forge. Wrathion appears outside the Thunder Forge after you finish the first three solo scenarios on the Isle of Thunder (start them with Lady Jaina Proudmoore or Lor’themar Theron).
- Spirit of the Storm Lord. Finish all remaining scenarios up to The Fall of Shan Bu, then use the Tempered Lightning Lance on Storm Lord Nalak. You do not have to fight him: use the lance near the top of the stairs north of Nalak, run up the stairs and kite the summoned add until the quest completes. It may take a couple of tries.
- The Crown of Heaven. Meet Wrathion at Mason’s Folly and choose a meta gem:

Extra meta gems cost 5 Primal Diamonds each at the Blacktalon Quartermaster. Two more quests finish the chapter:
- Echoes of the Titans. Collect 12 Titan Runestones from the last six Throne of Thunder bosses, the first eight Siege of Orgrimmar bosses, or Celestial Dungeon end bosses; Sendala sells them for 15 each.
- Heart of the Thunder King. Slay Lei Shen in the Halls of Thunder and loot the heart, or buy it from the August Stone Shard vendor (35 on Wowhead). Our Throne of Thunder raid guide covers the boss.
Chapter IV: Celestial Blessings (Phase 4)
About 1 hour. This chapter gives you the item level 600 epic cloak that Chapter V upgrades.
- A Reckoning. Speak to Wrathion upstairs in the Tavern in the Mists.
- Celestial Blessings. Visit all four temples and speak to each Celestial, but complete only the challenge made for your role:

The challenge is a solo fight against a version of Wrathion. For the melee version Wowhead’s tips are: attack from behind (he takes 250% more damage), kill the Neltharion’s Tears adds quickly because they gain stacking damage and speed, step out of the 180-degree Crumbling Arc, interrupt Blood of the Deathborn or leave the pool, and avoid the shadows from Reign of Fire.
- Cloak of Virtue. Meet Wrathion at Mason’s Folly and choose your item level 600 cloak:

- Preparing to Strike. Return to Wrathion in the Tavern in the Mists.
Pick the cloak for the spec you will raid with. The tooltips show the primary stat: Oxhorn Bladebreaker has Strength, Dodge, Parry and Mastery, Oxhoof Greatcloak has Agility, Dodge, Critical Strike and Mastery. A spare epic cloak costs 10,000 gold.
Chapter V: Judgment of the Black Prince (Phase 5)
About 2 hours, plus one Siege of Orgrimmar kill. Chapter V has been available since Phase 5 (2 June 2026). It takes you to the Timeless Isle, upgrades your cloak, and ends with Garrosh Hellscream.
- Meet Me Back at the Inn. Wrathion, upstairs in the Tavern in the Mists.
- A Timeless Discovery. Travel to the Timeless Isle (southeast of the Jade Forest) and speak to Wrathion.
- Secrets of the Timeless Isle. Collect 5,000 Timeless Coins from mobs, chests, quests, events and gathering professions. A good place is the east side of the isle between Firewalker Ruins and the Blazing Way: Gulp Frogs there drop around 40 to 50 coins each. Their stacking Gulp Frog Toxin kills you instantly at 10 stacks.
- The Emperor’s Way. Defeat the four August Celestials as world bosses in the Celestial Court near Wrathion: Yu’lon, Chi-Ji, Xuen and Niuzao. You cannot solo them.
- A Pandaren Legend. Meet Wrathion in the Seat of Knowledge in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. You receive a Timeless Essence of the Black Dragonflight, which upgrades the epic cloak to its legendary form (conversions in the table above).
- Judgment of the Black Prince. Complete Siege of Orgrimmar and defeat Garrosh Hellscream. This ends the quest line and awards the Chapter V achievement.

FAQ: Legendary Cloak in MoP Classic
How long does the MoP Classic legendary cloak take?
Wowhead’s estimate is about 15 hours in total, using random Celestial Dungeons for quest items and starting with no reputation: 4, 3, 5, 1 and 2 hours for Chapters I to V. Raiding while you go shortens Chapters I and III.
Can I get the legendary cloak without raiding?
Almost. Quest items can be bought or dropped in Celestial Dungeons, but the last quest, Judgment of the Black Prince, requires defeating Garrosh Hellscream in Siege of Orgrimmar.
How much gold does it cost?
The quest line itself is mostly time. Spare items cost: Sha-Touched gem 10,000, epic cloak 10,000, Eye of the Black Prince 2,500, Timeless Essence 125, all in gold before reputation discounts. You also need 40 Trillium Bars for Chapter III.
Do alts share progress?
No. Every character repeats the quest line. Only the access to Ordos on the Timeless Isle carries over to the account.
Which legendary cloak should I pick?
The one for your spec: Niuzao cloaks for tanks, Yu’lon for caster DPS, Chi-Ji for healers and Xuen for physical DPS (Gong-Lu for Strength, Fen-Yu for Agility). You choose in Chapter IV, because the epic cloak decides the final one.
Can I change my mind after Chapter IV?
Yes, at a price. You can buy another epic cloak for 10,000 gold and another Timeless Essence for 125 gold.
