Ultimate Guide to World of Warcraft Mount Vendors: Locations, Prices, and Best Mounts

A vendor mount is the one kind of mount you can plan for: the price is fixed, the vendor never moves, and there is no drop chance. The only question is if you have the gold, currency or reputation. These are the vendor mounts that matter most right now:

1. Why Buy Mounts from Vendors?
- Guaranteed purchase. No drop chance. Compare the Reins of the Quantum Courser, which drops at about 1.26% from Chrono-Lord Deios (see our Dawn of the Infinite solo guide).
- Utility. The Mammoth, the Yak and the Sporebearer carry vendors. The Sporebearer adds repair and mail; the Auction House and Transmogrifier are optional upgrades.
- Reputation discounts. Many vendor prices are quoted “before discounts”; reaching higher reputation lowers what you pay.
- Different currencies. Not everything costs gold: Timewarped Badges, Voidlight Marl and other event currencies buy mounts too.
2. Top Mount Vendors in WoW and Where to Find Them
Wrath and Pandaria: the utility mounts
The most useful vendor mounts are two old ones. Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth costs 20,000 gold from Mei Francis in Crystalsong Forest; there is a version for each faction and the reins are account-wide. Grand Expedition Yak costs 120,000 gold from Uncle Bigpocket in Kun-Lai Summit and needs no reputation. Both carry vendors. Racial and class mounts from the starting zones have changed price and level requirements several times, so we do not list them; check the trainer in game.
Midnight vendor mounts (12.0 and 12.1.5)

3. Shadowlands and Dragonflight Mount Vendors
Shadowlands
Covenant mounts are tied to Renown, not to a plain gold price: one mount arrives at Renown 45 and another is sold at Renown 70 in the 9.1 list from Icy Veins, with some Korthia mounts sold for Stygia. The Shadowlands PvP “Vicious” mounts could be bought in Dragonflight from mount quartermasters; you need one Vicious Saddle for each mount. This data is several years old, so check the vendor before you plan around it.
Dragonflight
- Dragonflight Timewalking: the vendor Xydan sells ground mounts for 5,000 Timewarped Badges each (Method’s guide).
- Cliffside Wylderdrake is a quest reward, not a vendor mount. What you buy are the customizations, for example Red Scales for 1 Awakened Fire and 400 Dragon Isles Supplies, or Red Hair for 25 Dragon Isles Supplies.
- Dawn of the Infinite is the dungeon to run for the Quantum Courser; it is a drop, not a vendor item.

5. Rare and Must-Have Vendor Mounts
Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth
20,000 gold from Mei Francis in Crystalsong Forest. Account-wide, three seats, requires Apprentice Riding, and it brings a vendor. Wowhead lists a Horde and an Alliance version, each for the races of that side.
Grand Expedition Yak
120,000 gold from Uncle Bigpocket in Kun-Lai Summit. It is a three-person mount with “helpful grummles for all your vendor needs”, requires level 85 and Journeyman Riding.
Sporebearer Fungal Strider
The new gold sink. The base mount costs 5,000,000 gold and includes a repair vendor and mail. The Transmogrifier (500,000) and Auction House (1,500,000, or check the vendor) are optional. It is the only one here that disappears: Wowhead says the mount is only available to purchase for the remainder of Midnight. If you want it, start saving now; patch 12.1.5 is live on 13 October.
6. Tips for Acquiring Vendor Mounts Efficiently
- Check the time limit first. Most vendor mounts stay forever; the Sporebearer does not. Buy limited ones first.
- Check requirements. The Yak needs level 85 and Journeyman Riding; the Corrupted Swarmer needs Exalted with the Aqir Research Enclave.
- Save currencies in the right order. Timewarped Badges at 5,000 per mount are slow: spend them on mounts you want, not on gear you can get elsewhere.
- Use the discount. Reputation vendors list a base price (“before discounts”); you pay less at a higher standing.
- Buy the utility mount that fits your gold. The Mammoth (20,000 gold) and the Yak (120,000 gold) both carry vendors, so the Mammoth is the cheaper way to get that.
