The WoW Forever Beta Is Closing
The testing chapter of WoW Forever is almost over. The closed beta shuts down on 23 October 2026, and the full release follows on 4 November 2026. If you were hoping to get into testing before launch, this guide explains where things stand: who had access and why, what the free stress test was, and what to do now to be ready on day one.
The short version is that the beta can no longer be joined in any new way. The good news is that you do not need beta access to play at launch. What matters from here on is early name reservation, the right subscription or Game Time, and choosing the pack that fits you, so this guide walks through each of those in turn.
Before you dive in, here are the headline facts:
- Beta closes: Friday 23 October 2026, 10:00 a.m. PDT (17:00 UTC, 19:00 CEST)
- Early name reservation: 27 October to 3 November 2026 (PST)
- Full launch: Wednesday 4 November 2026, 3:00 p.m. PST (5 November, 00:00 CET)
- Platform: PC only, there is no console version
- Beta access went to: Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection buyers, plus players selected from the beta opt-in
- To play at launch: a WoW subscription or Game Time, no pack required
Note: As of 22 October 2026, the WoW Forever beta closes on 23 October 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT and can no longer be joined in any new way. The free open stress test already took place on 21 October 2026, so the next date to plan around is early name reservation, which starts on 27 October 2026.

Key Dates From Beta Close to Launch
The beta was a fixed, time-boxed event rather than an open-ended test, and its end date has now been confirmed. Testing opened on September 17, 2026 and the closed beta ends on Friday 23 October 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, which is 17:00 UTC or 19:00 CEST. Older statements that gave 21 October as the end date have been superseded by this notice from Blizzard.
Here is the timeline from now until launch week and beyond:
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| 21 October 2026 | Free open stress test, 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. PDT (already over) |
| 23 October 2026 | Closed beta ends at 10:00 a.m. PDT |
| 27 October to 3 November 2026 | Early name reservation (PST) |
| 4 November 2026 | Launch at 3:00 p.m. PST (5 November, 00:00 CET) |
| 4 to 11 November 2026 | Launch week for Invite-A-Friend guests |
| 9 December 2026 | New raids unlock: Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit |
The gap between the end of testing and the release is short, so there is little time to waste. The beta servers go dark on 23 October, name reservation opens four days later, and the game goes live about a week after that.
For the record, the beta ran with a level cap that did not stay fixed for the whole test:
- When the beta first opened, characters could climb to level 20.
- After the opening two weeks, the ceiling lifted to level 30, opening up more content to test.
Looking ahead, the first two raids that arrive after launch are Barrow Deeps, a 10-player raid, and Hyjal Summit, a 20-player raid. Both unlock on 9 December 2026.
Remember, too, that this is a PC-only game. There is no console client for the beta or the launch, so a Windows or Mac gaming setup is the only way to play.
Who Had Beta Access and Why
There were two routes into the WoW Forever beta, and they suited very different kinds of players. One was a purchase that came with beta access built in. The other was a free registration of interest that depended on being picked. Both routes are now closed to anyone new.
The paid packs took the guesswork out entirely. Buyers of the Skyborne Epic Pack and the Warcraft Forever Collection received beta access as a bundled perk, with no waiting for a wave and no crossing of fingers.
The free Battle.net opt-in was a simple registration of interest. Opting in was never the same as being selected: Blizzard chose players from the opt-in pool and sent them an invite by email, and there was no guarantee that any given player would receive one.
Here is how the options stacked up:
| Method | Beta access? |
|---|---|
| Battle.net beta opt-in | Only if selected, invite sent by email |
| Skyborne Epic Pack | Yes |
| Warcraft Forever Collection | Yes |
| Skyborne Heroic Pack | No |
Not every purchasable pack unlocked the beta. The Skyborne Heroic Pack gives you the new playable race and an early name reservation, but it does not include beta access. That has not changed, and it is worth remembering when you pick a pack for launch.
Important: The beta can no longer be joined in any new way, and no new route into testing remains before it closes on 23 October. Packs still matter for launch, which is covered in the sections below.
The Free Stress Test (Already Over)
Alongside the closed beta, Blizzard ran a free open stress test that anyone with a WoW account could join. It was originally planned for 19 October, but Blizzard moved it to 21 October 2026, and it has already finished. This section explains what it was so you know what you did or did not miss.
The key details of the stress test were:
- When: 21 October 2026, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. PDT.
- Who could play: any WoW account, with no subscription, Game Time or invite required.
- What happened afterwards: the characters, names and guilds created during the test were deleted.
- Afterwards: the beta then reopened and runs until the closing time on 23 October.
A stress test is about load, not about content. Its job is to let a large number of people log in at once so the team can see how the servers cope before launch day. That is why it was open to everyone and why nothing from it was kept.
Because the stress test is over, there are no steps left to follow for it and no sign-up button to look for. If you opted in earlier and were selected, your invite arrived by email. If you never received one, there is no new route in, and the beta closes on 23 October.
The practical takeaway is simple: do not spend time chasing a late beta slot. Spend it on the things that still count, which are your name, your subscription and your pack.
What to Buy Before Launch
To play WoW Forever at launch you need a WoW subscription or Game Time. No pack is required. The packs are optional extras, and they differ in what they bundle, so here is exactly what each one gives you:
| Edition | What’s included |
|---|---|
| Skyborne Epic Pack | Everything in the Heroic Pack, plus beta access, 30 days of Game Time starting on 4 November, cosmetics/pets/tabards, and 3 Invite-A-Friend codes in total |
| Warcraft Forever Collection | Everything in the Epic Pack, plus Warcraft III: Reforged and a Forsaken Kingdom campaign. A limited-time edition, sold until 11 January 2027 |
| Skyborne Heroic Pack | The Skyborne race, the Zephras Isle starting experience, early name reservation and 1 Invite-A-Friend code. No beta access and no Game Time |
For most players the Skyborne Epic Pack is the sweet spot: it covers a full month of Game Time from launch day and a generous stack of extras, along with three invite codes to share. The Warcraft Forever Collection is the pick for collectors and lore fans who want the bonus Warcraft III: Reforged content and the extra campaign on top.
The Skyborne Heroic Pack is the entry point for the new race and for early name reservation. It does not come with Game Time, so you would still need a subscription or Game Time of your own to log in on 4 November.
The beta access in the Epic Pack and the Collection is now moot, since testing ends on 23 October. What still counts for launch is the Game Time, the race, the name reservation and the invite codes.
Tip: All three packs let you take part in early name reservation, so even the lowest tier gets you into the queue for your favourite name.
What to Do Now: Names, Launch and Invites
With the beta closing, your preparation shifts from testing to launch. Here is how to use the days between 23 October and 4 November well.
Reserve your character names
Early name reservation runs from 27 October to 3 November 2026 (PST). It is open to buyers of the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection, including anyone who upgrades from one pack to another. You can reserve up to 3 characters. Reservation is first come, first served and is not guaranteed, so do not leave it to the last day if there is a name you really want.
What happens to beta characters
Characters made in the beta were always meant as a preview, and the stress test characters were deleted outright afterwards. Blizzard has not announced a carry-over of beta characters, so treat any levels or gear from testing as temporary and plan to start fresh on 4 November.
Launch week and Invite-A-Friend
Invite-A-Friend codes are emailed from 20 October. Guests who receive one can play launch week, 4 to 11 November 2026, without a subscription. The invite does not include beta access. If you own the Epic Pack you hold 3 codes in total, the Collection includes the same, and the Heroic Pack comes with 1.
A simple checklist
- Check your account. Make sure your WoW subscription or Game Time is ready for 4 November, unless your pack already includes 30 days.
- Pick your pack. Decide between Heroic, Epic and the Collection using the table above.
- Reserve names. Open the reservation between 27 October and 3 November and claim up to 3 names.
- Send your invites. Check your email for Invite-A-Friend codes and pass them on before launch week.
- Log in on launch day. The game goes live at 3:00 p.m. PST on 4 November, which is 00:00 CET on 5 November.
The new raids, Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit, unlock on 9 December 2026, so you have a few weeks after launch to level up and gear before they open.
