Key Takeaways

Frost is the Mage spec for players who would rather steer a fight than sprint on the damage meters. It slows enemies, freezes them in place and then cashes that control in with Ice Lance, the new instant spell that hits frozen targets for a lot more. This guide covers the talents, abilities, rotation, gear, consumables, enchants and PvP plan for Frost Mage in WoW Forever, so you can build the character once and play it with confidence.

  • Playstyle: a safe, consistent ranged DPS spec built on Chill effects, freezes and Ice Lance burst, and the best defensive kit the class has to offer.
  • Ice Lance and Fingers of Frost: Ice Lance deals 200% more damage to frozen targets, and Fingers of Frost makes your next 1–2 spells act as if the target were frozen, which keeps the combo alive even on bosses that cannot be frozen.
  • Winter’s Chill: Winter’s Chill no longer adds crit chance. Its stacks now power up your next Cone of Cold, so Frostbolt and Frost Blast feed your area damage.
  • Frost Blast: the new Frost Blast is a fast, cheap slow you train at level 24, and it benefits from every Frostbolt talent.
  • AoE and build: mass pulling is weaker than in Classic, because Improved Blizzard slows by up to 40% and Cone of Cold gives its stronger slow to the first 4 targets only. Most players still finish on a 0/0/51 tree ending with Ice Barrier.
  • Race and stats: Gnome is the top Alliance pick, while Undead and Troll bring the most useful Horde survival tools. Frost spell damage and Spell Power come first, Hit up to the cap comes next, and Spirit counts for more than on other Mage specs.

Note: Characters can currently reach level 30, so the level 30 advice here follows the newest build. The level 60 talents and the raid set come from the complete Patch 1.60.1 data, and every beta number in this guide may still change before or after the 4 November 2026 release. Treat the level 60 sections as the current plan rather than a final answer.

WoW Forever Frost Mage Overview

Frost Mage in WoW Forever manages a fight with slows and freezes, then turns every one of those freezes into Ice Lance damage. The engine is simple once you see it. Frostbolt always applies Chill, and each Chill has a chance to trigger either Frostbite, which freezes the target, or Fingers of Frost, which lets your next spells hit as if the target were frozen. You answer every proc by throwing an instant Ice Lance, and because it is instant you can keep dealing damage while you run.

The honest downside is that Frost rarely tops the damage meters. The spec is built to control opponents, and very few classes do that as well as a Mage, but control is not the same as raw output. Frost-immune and Frost-resistant enemies are also a real problem, since most of your talents lean on Frost damage. In return you get the best defensive kit in the class: Ice Block, Ice Barrier and Cold Snap give you more ways to survive a bad pull than Arcane or Fire can offer.

That safety shows up while you level. Constant slows and freezes mean most enemies never reach you, so Frost levels with very little risk, even if the process is slow. If you would rather skip the grind, our WoW Forever powerleveling service can bring a Frost Mage to level 60 so you can start on dungeons and raids with a character that is already finished.

Frost Mage Strengths and Weaknesses

Frost has no burst cooldown of its own, and it trades that for survivability. This table puts the two sides next to each other so you can judge whether the playstyle suits you.

Strengths Weaknesses
Constant slows from Frostbolt and freezes from Frost Nova keep enemies away from you No self-healing in combat
Ice Block, Ice Barrier and Cold Snap give strong defense No offensive cooldown like Arcane Power or Combustion
Instant Ice Lance allows damage while moving Frost-immune or Frost-resistant enemies blunt most talents
Reliable AoE with Blizzard, Cone of Cold and Frost Nova AoE slows are weaker than in Classic, so big kiting pulls are riskier

Read the last row twice if you come from Classic. Frost can still clear groups, but the old habit of dragging a huge pack around the zone is now a gamble rather than a routine.

Frost Mage Best Race

Gnome is the best Frost Mage race for the Alliance, while Undead and Troll offer the strongest survival racials for the Horde. The Mage class is open to Human, Gnome and Skyborne on the Alliance side and to Orc, Undead and Troll on the Horde side. The table below shows why the top three stand out.

Faction Race Why It Works for Frost Mage
Alliance Gnome Escape Artist is a second escape next to Blink, and Eureka! gives 8 sec of 10% more damage at 10% lower Mana cost.
Horde Undead Will of the Forsaken breaks Charm, Fear and Sleep, so you can save Ice Block. Cannibalize now restores Mana too.
Horde Troll Rapid Regeneration heals 50% of maximum Health over 6 sec, covering Frost’s lack of self-healing.

The remaining Mage races in WoW Forever offer smaller, more situational benefits, and a couple of them are still perfectly good choices if you simply like how the character looks.

  • Skyborne: these Mages come from the Alliance’s High Order and are very good for leveling, because Read Leyline doubles Health and Mana regeneration and lasts 15 min near a leyline.
  • Orc: Blood Fury gives 10% Spell Power, and Shatter Curse removes Curses and Banes and cuts Magic damage taken by 5% for 8 sec.
  • Human: Will to Survive removes stuns, although Blink already covers part of that job.

Tip: If you mostly play solo and care about uptime, the Gnome escape and the Troll heal solve different problems. Pick the one that matches how you usually die, not the one that looks better on paper.

WoW Forever Frost Mage Changes

The Frost Mage changes in WoW Forever add a proc rotation and tone down AoE farming. Ice Lance and Fingers of Frost are the new talents, Frost Blast and Frostfire Bolt are new trainer spells, and Winter’s Chill was redesigned. Together they move Frost away from pure Frostbolt spam and toward a spec where you watch for procs and react.

New Frost Mage Abilities and Talents

These four additions change how you deal damage at every level. The table shows what each one does and where it fits in your play.

Ability or Talent Effect DPS Use
Ice Lance An instant Frost spell with no cooldown that deals 200% more damage to frozen targets. Your payoff button after every freeze or Fingers of Frost proc.
Fingers of Frost Chill effects have a 15% chance to treat your next 1 or 2 spells as if the target were frozen, for 15 sec. Brings Ice Lance and Shatter damage to enemies that cannot be frozen.
Frost Blast A 1.5 sec cast from level 24 that deals light Frost damage and slows by 40% for 9 sec. All Frostbolt talents affect it. A cheap, fast slow that replaces the old rank 1 Frostbolt trick.
Frostfire Bolt A level 40 bolt that counts as Fire and Frost damage, slows by 40% and uses the target’s lower resistance. A backup filler against enemies with high Frost resistance.

Frostfire Bolt is worth remembering for exactly one reason: it is your answer to the weakness mentioned earlier. When a target shrugs off Frost, the bolt checks both schools and takes the lower resistance, so you keep casting instead of waiting for the fight to end.

Frost Mage Changes from Classic

These changes affect leveling, dungeons and PvP alike. The list below covers the most important ones, in the order you are likely to notice them.

Two of these deserve a second look. The talent layout matters because Ice Barrier now sits behind Cold Snap, so you cannot skip the reset spell if you want the shield. And the rank penalty means you should stop reaching for low-rank Frostbolt as a cheap slow; Frost Blast does that job properly now.

Best WoW Forever Frost Mage Builds

Frost Mage builds in WoW Forever balance Hit, freeze chance and defense, because the spec needs a lot of talents before it fully comes together. At low level you are really choosing which two or three talents to take first, and at 60 you are filling almost an entire tree. These are the three builds you will actually play.

  • Level 20 Frost Mage Build: 0/0/11 with faster Frostbolt, Frostbite and Ice Lance.
  • Level 30 Frost Mage Build: 0/0/21 with Shatter and the first point of Fingers of Frost, plus a 26-point Talented version.
  • Level 60 Frost Mage Build: the popular 0/0/51 build that fills nearly the whole Frost tree.

Level 20 Frost Mage Build

The best level 20 Frost Mage build in WoW Forever is 0/0/11. Faster Frostbolts and a freeze chance make Ice Lance useful from the moment you learn it, so you do not spend your first stretch of levels waiting for the spec to work. Take the talents in this order.

Level Talent Ranks Reason
10–14 Improved Frostbolt 5/5 Cuts 0.5 sec from every Frostbolt and Frost Blast
15–17 Frostbite 3/3 15% chance for Chills to freeze for 5 sec
18–19 Elemental Precision 2/5 +2% Hit so fewer spells miss
20 Ice Lance 1/1 Instant burst on every frozen target

If wands carry most of your early damage, you can open with 2/2 Wand Specialization in Arcane and respec into Frost later. It is a reasonable shortcut for the first few levels, as long as you remember to swap before Ice Lance becomes your main button.

Level 30 Frost Mage Build

The recommended level 30 Frost Mage build is 0/0/21, which adds Shatter and the first rank of Fingers of Frost. Continue from the level 20 build in this order.

  1. Fill Ice Shards 5/5 for +100% Frost crit damage.
  2. Take Improved Blizzard 1/3 to give Blizzard a slow.
  3. Max Shatter at 3/3 to reach its full 50% crit chance against frozen targets.
  4. Spend the 21st point on Fingers of Frost 1/2.

With the Legacy perk Talented, you earn talent points from level 5, so a level 30 Frost Mage has 26 points instead. That version takes Improved Frostbolt 5/5, Elemental Precision 4/5, Ice Shards 5/5, Frostbite 3/3, Ice Lance, Arctic Reach 2/2, Shatter 3/3, Cold Snap and Fingers of Frost 2/2. Both versions play the same way; the extra points simply arrive sooner.

Blackfathom Deeps is a good place to test Shatter combinations on caster packs. If you would rather not wait for a group, our WoW Forever dungeon runs cover the search and the quests inside.

Frost Mage Endgame Build

Most level 60 Frost Mages in WoW Forever run a 0/0/51 talent build that fills nearly the entire Frost tree. It takes every damage, freeze and defensive talent except Frost Warding, and it leaves Arcane and Fire completely empty. The full list is split into two rows below.

Talent Tree Recommended Frost Mage Talents
Frost — 51 points Improved Frostbolt 5/5, Elemental Precision 5/5, Ice Shards 5/5, Frostbite 3/3, Improved Frost Nova 2/2, Permafrost 3/3, Piercing Ice 3/3, Frost Channeling 3/3, Ice Lance 1/1, Improved Blizzard 3/3
Frost — continued Arctic Reach 2/2, Ice Block 1/1, Shatter 3/3, Improved Cone of Cold 3/3, Cold Snap 1/1, Fingers of Frost 2/2, Winter’s Chill 5/5, Ice Barrier 1/1
Arcane and Fire — 0 points No points required.

With Winter’s Chill and Improved Cone of Cold both maxed, this build makes Cone of Cold a strong damage spell in addition to a slow. That is the payoff for the long talent path: the cone stops being a panic button and becomes part of your normal rotation.

Note: The level 60 tree is based on the complete Patch 1.60.1 data, so small talent shifts are possible when the game launches. Check your points again after any patch notes.

WoW Forever Frost Mage Abilities

Frost Mage abilities in WoW Forever combine Frost damage, freeze effects and the best defensive toolkit of any Mage spec. Most of the kit is shared with the rest of the class, but the way Frost strings it together is what makes the spec feel different. The kit falls into four groups.

The City of Dalaran dungeon contains many casters that you can Polymorph and Counterspell, which makes it a nice place to practice the control side of the spec. Dungeons like this one reward a Mage who treats crowd control as a rotation rather than an emergency tool.

Frost Mage Damage Abilities

These abilities support both your single-target and multi-target play. The table shows the main use of each one, from the Frostbolt that starts everything to the Fire Blast that ends it.

Ability Main Use
Frostbolt Main cast; its guaranteed 40% Chill procs Frostbite and Fingers of Frost
Ice Lance Instant burst on frozen targets or with Fingers of Frost
Frost Blast Fast, cheap Chill that also stacks Winter’s Chill
Blizzard 8 sec channeled AoE, slowed only with Improved Blizzard
Cone of Cold Instant frontal AoE that spends Winter’s Chill stacks, 10 sec cooldown
Frost Nova Freezes nearby enemies for up to 8 sec and sets up Ice Lance
Fire Blast Instant finisher when the target is not frozen
Arcane Explosion Instant AoE you can spam while moving with a pack

Frost Mage Defensive Abilities

Frost’s defensive abilities are the reason the spec is so forgiving, and they work best when you use them before the damage lands. Each of them has a clear moment and a clear cost, listed below.

Defensive Best Timing Main Limit
Ice Barrier Before a pull, to cast without pushback 30 sec cooldown, needs 30 Frost points
Ice Block When a lethal hit or debuff is coming You cannot act for 10 sec, 5 min cooldown
Cold Snap To reuse Ice Block or Frost Nova right away 10 min cooldown
Ice Armor Solo play; attackers may be Chilled, which can proc Frostbite and Fingers of Frost Cannot be active together with Mage Armor
Mana Shield When Ice Barrier is down and melee reaches you Costs Mana for every point absorbed

Warning: Ice Block makes you helpless for its full duration, so do not press it while the thing that is hurting you can simply wait. Use it when the incoming hit or debuff would actually kill you.

Frost Mage Utility

Utility is shared with the other Mage specs, and a few of these spells are worth binding close to your rotation keys so you can reach them without looking away from the fight.

Utility Main Use
Counterspell Stops a cast and locks that spell school for 10 sec
Blink 20 yard teleport that also breaks stuns and roots
Remove Lesser Curse Cleanses a Curse or a Bane
Evocation 8 sec of boosted Mana regeneration, 8 min cooldown
Comprehend Scroll Turns found scrolls into buffs such as Scroll of Imbue Frost

Frost Mage Crowd Control

Crowd control is the core of the spec, since every slow is also a chance for Frostbite and Fingers of Frost. That means even a plain kiting move feeds your damage. The five tools below cover almost every situation.

Crowd Control Main Use
Polymorph Takes one Humanoid or Beast out of the fight until it takes damage
Frost Nova Freezes nearby enemies for up to 8 sec and sets up Ice Lance
Cone of Cold A frontal slow that hits its first 4 targets harder and longer
Frost Blast / Frostbolt Single-target 40% slows for kiting
Improved Blizzard Adds a Chill to every Blizzard tick

WoW Forever Frost Mage Rotation

The WoW Forever Frost Mage rotation is based on reacting to procs: you cast Frostbolt, watch for procs and spend them on Ice Lance. There is no long fixed opener to memorize, which is why the spec is comfortable for newer players and still has room to improve for experienced ones. Each situation has its own short plan.

Single-Target Rotation

The single-target rotation spends every freeze and every Fingers of Frost proc on Ice Lance. Follow this order.

  1. Cast Frostbolt as your default spell, since its Chill is what procs Frostbite and Fingers of Frost.
  2. If Fingers of Frost procs when a Frostbolt finishes, cancel the next Frostbolt and cast Ice Lance right away.
  3. If Frostbite freezes the target, queue Ice Lance after the Frostbolt you are already casting.
  4. Keep casting Ice Lance while the target stays frozen.
  5. Finish a low, unfrozen enemy with Fire Blast, which is an instant finisher.

Any damage can break a freeze, including your own Ice Lance, so be ready to switch back to Frostbolt. On bosses that cannot be frozen, Fingers of Frost is your only Ice Lance window, which makes it worth watching for the proc rather than casting on autopilot.

AoE Rotation

The AoE plan changes with the number of enemies. On small packs you chase Shatter crits, while area spells carry the damage on large ones. Against 3 or more enemies:

  1. Use Cone of Cold to fish for Fingers of Frost and Frostbite, spending any Winter’s Chill stacks you built with Frostbolt or Frost Blast.
  2. Spend Fingers of Frost on Ice Lance against unfrozen targets.
  3. Ice Lance any frozen target until the freeze breaks.
  4. Use Frost Nova to create new frozen targets.

Against 5 or more enemies, use Cone of Cold on cooldown and channel Blizzard in between. Switch to Arcane Explosion when you have aggro and cannot finish a channel, since a channel that gets interrupted wastes both time and Mana.

Defensive Cooldowns

Your defensives work in sequence. Ice Barrier covers routine hits, Ice Block covers lethal ones, and Cold Snap resets both your Ice Block and Frost Nova for a second round.

  • Keep Ice Barrier up before pulls; while it holds, damage cannot interrupt or delay your casts.
  • Use Ice Block early when a lethal debuff lands, since it also clears most of them.
  • Save Cold Snap for a second Ice Block in an emergency.

Mana Management

Mana is a real limit for Frost, because the spec has few other tools to refill it. Depend on Frost Channeling and Spirit, and use the habits below.

  • Frost Channeling 3/3 cuts the cost of every Frost spell by 15%.
  • Swap to Mage Armor in groups to keep 50% of your regeneration while casting.
  • Finish low enemies with your wand to save the Mana that a full Frostbolt would cost.
  • Use Evocation and your Mana gem between packs and in emergencies, so Mana does not run out in the middle of a pull.

WoW Forever Frost Mage Leveling

Frost Mage leveling in WoW Forever is very safe thanks to the constant slows and freezes, though it is not the fastest option. Pull with Frostbolt so the enemy arrives Chilled, then kite it or freeze it before it reaches you. From level 24, Frost Blast gives you a quicker, cheaper way to reapply the slow while kiting, so you stop wasting a full cast on it.

Mana is limited at low levels, so fight one enemy at a time and use your wand often. The Greater Magic Wand is available from level 13 and is cheap on the Auction House. A wand now needs you to stand still for half a second before it fires, so plan your last few hits instead of tapping the wand button mid-run.

Tip: Most dungeon experience in Forever comes from the quests inside, so collect every quest for a dungeon before running it once.

Frost Mage Leveling Build

The leveling build unlocks a new freeze or defense tool almost every tier of the talent tree. These are the milestones to look forward to, so you always know what the next few levels will give you.

Level Leveling Milestone
10 Start with Improved Frostbolt
20 Learn Ice Lance after Frostbite
25 Open row 4: Shatter and Ice Block
30 Reach row 5 for Fingers of Frost and Cold Snap; finish the Mage’s Wand quest
35 Open row 6 with Winter’s Chill
40 Take Ice Barrier with 30 Frost points and train Frostfire Bolt
60 Complete the 0/0/51 build

Frost Mage Leveling Rotation

The leveling rotation opens with Frostbolt, adds Ice Lance on every freeze and finishes with Fire Blast or a wand. When an enemy reaches melee, Frost Nova it, step back and keep throwing Ice Lances while it is frozen. That short loop is enough for almost every normal pull until you reach the dungeons.

Keep Ice Armor on while questing. Enemies that hit you may be Chilled, and that Chill can proc Frostbite and Fingers of Frost.

Frost Mage Class Quests

At level 30, any Mage trainer starts the wand chain that every Frost Mage should finish. It runs through Dustwallow Marsh and needs a group for Scarlet Monastery Library, so set aside a little time to find people for it. The reward is the wand you will be using for a long time.

Level Quest Chain Reward
30 Journey to the Marsh → Mage’s Wand Icefury Wand: Frost damage, +3 Intellect, and up to +9 Frost spell damage

WoW Forever Frost Mage Stat Priority

Frost Mage stat priority in WoW Forever starts with Frost spell damage and Spell Power, followed by Hit. Frost damage adds on top of general Spell Power but only affects Frost spells, and Spell Power also raises your wand damage, which is useful while you level and when you finish enemies cheaply. Here is the order to follow when you compare two pieces of gear.

  1. Spell Power and Frost Spell Damage
  2. Hit, up to the cap
  3. Critical Strike
  4. Haste
  5. Intellect
  6. Spirit
  7. Stamina

Critical Strike is strong because Ice Shards doubles the crit bonus of Frost spells, while Haste speeds up Frostbolt. The order of Critical Strike and Haste is still debated, so do not agonize over a small difference between the two and take whichever item is clearly better overall. Spirit deserves more weight on Frost than on other Mage specs, since Frost has fewer Mana tools and relies on regeneration more.

Hit sits near the top of the list because a missed Frostbolt costs you the Chill, and a Chill is the start of the whole proc chain. Beta stat values may change, so recheck the order after major patches.

WoW Forever Frost Mage Best Gear

The best Frost Mage gear at level 30 combines Frost-only Tailoring pieces with caster drops from Razorfen Kraul, Shadowfang Keep and Scarlet Monastery. The Silky pieces boost Frost damage only and can be worn only by the Tailor who made them, so the full set suits a crafter more than a buyer. Here is the slot-by-slot list with the source of each item.

Slot Item Source
Head Filigreed Silky Circlet Tailoring, crafter only
Neck Stygian Bone Amulet Blind Hunter, Razorfen Kraul
Shoulder Bloodmage Mantle Bloodmage Thalnos, Scarlet Monastery Graveyard
Back Azure Silk Cloak Tailoring
Chest Silky Gown Tailoring, crafter only
Wrist Spidertank Oilrag Electrocutioner 6000, Gnomeregan
Hands Azure Silk Gloves Tailoring
Waist Belt of Arugal Archmage Arugal, Shadowfang Keep
Legs Silky Leggings Tailoring, crafter only
Feet Frothing Slippers Tailoring, crafter only
Ring Philanthropist’s Ring Quest: Greater Friend of the Library
Ring Ring of Forlorn Spirits Quest: The Legend of Stalvan (Alliance)
Trinket Minor Recombobulator Engineering
Trinket Dog Whistle Houndmaster Loksey, Scarlet Monastery Library
Main Hand Swinetusk Shank Agathelos the Raging, Razorfen Kraul
Off Hand Elder’s Amber Stave of Frozen Wrath World drop, Auction House
Wand Icefury Wand Quest: Mage’s Wand

Random-suffix greens “of Frozen Wrath”, including Thistlefur pieces and Conjurer’s Bracers, compete with several of these slots, and the Auction House now shows their stats before you buy, so compare before you commit to a long dungeon route. Horde Mages can take Reedknot Ring instead of the Alliance-only ring.

Two earlier upgrades are worth knowing about. The Coldspire Staff from Rath’mael in Ruins of Lordaeron adds up to +32 Frost damage from level 19, and the Filigreed Silky Gown starts the crafted set at level 15. If you are building toward the full Silky outfit, these two give you a head start while you collect the rest.

Gearing a fresh character is the slow part of the climb. If you would rather start dungeons with a ready set, our pre-raid gear service is built for exactly that.

Pre-Raid and Raid BiS

Pre-raid BiS for Frost Mage in WoW Forever will focus on Spell Power, Frost damage, Hit and Critical Strike. Final level 60 lists need the full dungeon and raid loot, so keep spare Hit pieces until you know your total, because falling short of the cap costs more than a slightly lower crit rating.

All three Mage specs share one raid set, Manaflare Regalia. Its bonuses add Hit at 2 pieces, a shorter Counterspell cooldown at 3, extra spell damage against Elementals at 4, and a Frostfire Bolt upgrade at 5. For Frost, the 5-piece part that matters is a higher chance for Frostfire Bolt to trigger Fingers of Frost.

Best Frost Mage Weapons

Swinetusk Shank is the best main-hand Frost Mage weapon at level 30, with up to +40 spell damage and healing. Pair it with a Frozen Wrath off-hand, or pick the Mage-only Coldflame Saber, made by imbuing the Blade of Silverlaine with a Scroll of the Saber. The saber also adds Fire damage to your melee attacks against frozen targets. Icefury Wand from the Mage’s Wand chain is the wand to aim for at 30.

Best WoW Forever Frost Mage Consumables

The best Frost Mage consumables boost Frost damage and keep your Mana bar full. The table covers the options for level 30 and level 60, so you can stock up for whichever stage you are at.

Consumable Type Item Main Use
Frost Elixir Elixir of Frost Power More Frost spell damage for 30 min, from level 28
Staff Imbue Scroll of Imbue Frost Mage-only scroll that adds Frost damage to a staff for 1 hour
Spell Power Elixir Lesser Arcane Elixir More spell damage for 30 min
Mana Elixir Lesser Mageblood Elixir Steady Mana regeneration for 30 min
Weapon Oil Lesser Wizard Oil +16 spell damage, the strongest oil at level 30
Drink Calcified Smoothie Restores Mana and gives Spirit when well fed
Burst Potion Spellblasting Potion A 30-sec spell damage boost
Level 60 Flask Flask of Supreme Power +150 spell damage that persists through death
Level 60 Elixir Greater Arcane Elixir +35 spell damage for 1 hour
Level 60 Mana Mageblood Elixir Mana regeneration for 1 hour
Level 60 Food Runn Tum Tuber Surprise Intellect for 15 min when well fed

At level 30 the simple routine is an elixir, a weapon oil and a drink, saving the potion for a pull that matters. At level 60 the flask is the standout, because it persists through death and so does not have to be rebought after every wipe. Since Spirit counts for more on Frost than on other Mage specs, the drink that gives Spirit is a better pick for you than for most casters.

Raid-night flasks and elixirs can cost a lot of Gold, so a stock of WoW Forever Gold lets you spend more of your evenings on progression and less on farming for materials.

Best WoW Forever Frost Mage Enchants

Frost Mage enchants should add Spell Power and Frost damage first, then Intellect and Spirit. Cheaper enchants are fine on gear you will replace before level 60, so save the expensive ones for pieces you plan to keep. The table lists the best choice for each slot.

Gear Slot Enchant Main Benefit
Weapon Enchant Weapon – Revelation Crit proc after a non-crit spell, best one-hand option at 30
Weapon (60) Enchant Weapon – Spell Power +30 spell damage
Gloves (60) Enchant Gloves – Frost Power +20 Frost damage
Neck Enchant Necklace – Spell Power +6 spell damage and healing
Wrist (60) Enchant Bracer – Superior Spirit +9 Spirit for Mana regeneration
Chest (60) Enchant Chest – Greater Stats +4 to all stats
Back Enchant Cloak – Subtlety 2% less threat in dungeons
Head, Legs (60) Arcanum of Focus +8 spell damage and healing
Shoulder (60) Zandalar Signet of Mojo +18 spell damage and healing
Feet (60) Enchant Boots – Spirit +5 Spirit

Notice how many of these rows are marked for level 60. Before that point the weapon, the necklace and the cloak are the slots that matter, and the rest is a bonus once you have the Gold and the materials to spare.

Best WoW Forever Frost Mage Professions

Tailoring and Enchanting are the best professions for a Frost Mage in WoW Forever, both for leveling and for early gearing. Tailoring crafts the Frost-only Silky set, and Enchanting makes oils, wands, staves and off-hands while turning spare Tailoring greens into materials, so the two professions feed each other. The table shows the three pairs worth considering.

Professions Best Use
Tailoring + Enchanting Silky and Azure Silk gear, Wizard Oils, crafter-only staves
Tailoring + Engineering Silky gear plus goggles, trinkets and PvP gadgets
Alchemy + Herbalism Elixirs of Frost Power, Mageblood and potions

At campfires, Tailoring places a Faction Banner for Spirit and Alchemy places a Mana Well for Mana regeneration, both useful for a spec that spends a lot of Mana. Several Silky recipes cost Merchant’s Favor, which is a slow currency to collect by hand. If you would rather skip that grind, the profession kits can cover the crafting side for you.

Pick your pair by what you want from the game. Tailoring plus Enchanting is the natural fit for a pure gearing plan, while Alchemy plus Herbalism suits a Mage who mostly wants strong consumables for raids.

WoW Forever Frost Mage Macros

These Frost Mage macros make proc reactions and defensives faster. Test each one in the open world before relying on it in a dungeon or a fight that matters. Each macro is shown line by line, so paste the lines in order into a new macro.

WoW Forever Frost Mage PvP

Frost Mage is the strongest Mage spec for PvP in WoW Forever, because it controls enemies and survives their burst. Frost Nova, Frostbite and Ice Lance give you a kill window on any player who stands still, while Permafrost and Arctic Reach make your slows last longer and reach farther.

Ice Block and Cold Snap are a must for PvP builds. An Undead Mage adds Will of the Forsaken against Fear, and Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control. Aiming for a high PvP rank and its gear? Our BiS PvP gear service is there if you want to skip the long climb.

Frost Mage PvP Talents

At level 30 the PvP build drops Hit for longer slows and Ice Block. This 26-point build uses the Talented perk, and each line explains what the points buy you.

Tip: In PvP the whole spec rewards patience. Slow a target, freeze it, then wait for the window before you spend Ice Lance, and keep Ice Block for the moment when their burst actually arrives.

WoW Forever Frost Mage FAQ

These answers cover the questions players ask most often about Frost Mage in WoW Forever, from nerfs to PvP.

Was Frost Mage nerfed in WoW Forever?

Frost Mage AoE was nerfed in WoW Forever. Improved Blizzard now slows by up to 40% instead of 65%, and Cone of Cold slows harder only on its first 4 targets. Single-target play gained Ice Lance, Fingers of Frost and Frost Blast, so the spec traded some area control for a stronger proc rotation.

How does Ice Lance work in WoW Forever?

Ice Lance is an instant Frost spell that deals 200% more damage to frozen targets. Fingers of Frost lets it hit as if the target were frozen, even on bosses that cannot be frozen, which is why you save your Ice Lances for freezes and procs.

What does Fingers of Frost do?

Fingers of Frost gives your Chill effects a 15% chance to make your next 1 or 2 spells treat the target as frozen for 15 sec. In practice it is your signal to drop the Frostbolt you are casting and fire Ice Lance.

What is Frost Blast in WoW Forever?

Frost Blast is a new Frost Mage spell trained at level 24, with a 1.5 sec cast that slows by 40% and benefits from every Frostbolt talent. It replaces the old habit of casting rank 1 Frostbolt.

Is Frost Mage good for leveling in WoW Forever?

Frost Mage is one of the safest leveling specs in WoW Forever, though not the fastest. Constant slows and freezes let you kill enemies before they reach you, and a wand finishes weak targets cheaply.

Is Frost Mage good in PvP?

Frost Mage is the best Mage spec for PvP thanks to Ice Block, Cold Snap, Frost Nova and instant Ice Lance burst.

What is the best race for Frost Mage in WoW Forever?

Gnome is the top Alliance choice, while Undead and Troll are the strongest Horde options for Frost Mage.

Frost Mage in WoW Forever has a complete control toolkit built around slows, freezes and proc-driven Ice Lance damage. Ice Barrier and Ice Block are key to staying alive, and the full 0/0/51 tree becomes available as you level toward 60. Adjust your talents and gear when the level 60 data changes at launch.
