Warrior in MoP Classic Phase 5: Quick Answer

Updated 12 October 2026 for MoP Classic Phase 5, Siege of Orgrimmar. Builds, rotations and gear follow Wowhead’s Phase 5 Warrior guides (revised June 2026); tier placement is from Wowhead’s August 2026 lists.

This guide was written for Phase 1. Since then the raid has changed from Mogu’shan Vaults to Siege of Orgrimmar, the Tier 16 set replaced Tier 14, and the Arms rotation changed. Everything below is updated for Phase 5.

Arms Fury Protection
Wowhead PvE tier (Phase 5) B (DPS) A (DPS) A in 25-player, B in 10-player
Role Burst, cleave, PvP Sustained single target and 4-target cleave Tank, also a good off-tank that can swap to Arms
Tier 16 set 2 pieces 2 pieces 2 pieces (tank set)
Best cloak Gong-Lu, Strength of Xuen (legendary) Gong-Lu, Strength of Xuen (legendary) Qian-Ying, Fortitude of Niuzao (defensive) or the offensive legendary

Warrior is S-tier in Icy Veins’ final-season arena list (June 2026) and mid-table in raid damage, so it is a PvP-first class that also fills raids well. For the full table see our MoP Classic class rankings.

Warrior Overview – MoP Classic Specializations

All three Warrior specs use Rage, and all bring raid utility through banners and Vigilance. Wowhead describes DPS Warriors in MoP Classic as no longer purely damage dealers because of Skull Banner (20% critical damage for the raid) and Demoralizing Banner.

Spec Strengths Best content
Arms Mortal Strike, Colossus Smash windows, strong AoE with Sweeping Strikes, healing reduction in PvP PvP, solo play, AoE raid fights
Fury Raging Blow charges, Enrage uptime, 4-target cleave via Meat Cleaver, Bloodthirst self-healing Single-target raid and dungeon DPS
Protection Active mitigation (Shield Block, Shield Barrier), Shield Slam and Revenge Rage generation, Vigilance Raid and dungeon tanking, off-tank on 10-player

Warrior Leveling in MoP Classic

Wowhead says that Fury is not the preferred Warrior leveling spec, although it still levels well because of its burst and constant Bloodthirst healing. Titan’s Grip is learned only at level 38, so Fury has to use one-handed weapons until then. Aim for 6% Hit and Expertise while leveling, which keeps abilities from missing targets two levels above you. For leveling talents, Wowhead picks Bladestorm for AoE, Disrupting Shout if the group has no other root, and Second Wind if you are solo. The most useful leveling glyphs are Glyph of Bull Rush (Charge gives 15 extra Rage), Glyph of Rude Interruption and Glyph of Raging Wind. For the whole route to 90 see our MoP Classic leveling guide.

Wowhead’s Fury leveling list, which also works for Arms:

Slot Heirloom
Back Worn Stoneskin Gargoyle Cape
Head Polished Helm of Valor
Legs Polished Legplates of Valor
Shoulders Polished Spaulders of Valor
Chest Polished Breastplate of Valor
Weapon Bloodied Arcanite Reaper (two for Fury once Titan’s Grip is learned), Bloodsoaked Skullforge Reaver or Battleworn Thrash Blade
Trinket Swift Hand of Justice
Ring Dread Pirate Ring (reward from the Kalu’ak Fishing Derby)

Best Warrior Specialization by Content

Content Best spec Why
Leveling Arms or Protection Wowhead does not list Fury as its preferred leveling spec
Raid DPS Fury (A-tier), Arms (B-tier, strong on AoE) Wowhead tier list, 17 Aug 2026
Raid tank Protection A-tier in 25-player, B-tier in 10-player (Wowhead, 8 Aug 2026)
PvP Arms Mortal Strike healing reduction; Icy Veins puts Warrior in S-tier
Dungeons Protection or Fury Tank or cleave DPS

On 10-player, Wowhead recommends Protection Warriors gear for an easy swap to Arms when only one tank is needed.

Core Warrior Abilities in MoP Classic

Every Warrior shares these tools:

Ability What it does
Charge Rushes the target, stuns it briefly and generates Rage. No minimum range in MoP
Heroic Leap Jump to a location and damage everything within 8 yards. Off the global cooldown for Protection
Pummel Interrupts a spell cast
Heroic Strike / Cleave Rage dump. Cleave hits extra targets
Recklessness 30% extra critical strike chance for a burst window
Skull Banner Raid-wide 20% critical damage, 3-minute cooldown. Does not stack between Warriors, so assign one
Intimidating Shout Fear. With Glyph of Intimidating Shout the feared enemies stand still
Colossus Smash Armor-ignoring damage window that the DPS rotations are built around
  • Arms: Mortal Strike, Overpower, Slam, Sweeping Strikes, Deep Wounds.
  • Fury: Bloodthirst, Raging Blow, Wild Strike, Enrage, Meat Cleaver.
  • Protection: Shield Slam, Revenge, Shield Block, Shield Barrier, Devastate.

Warrior Rotations in MoP Classic

All three rotations are priority lists: after each cast, go back to the top and take the first ability that is available. Use Potion of Mogu Power one second before the pull and Shattering Throw half a second before it. If another Warrior is in the raid, agree who uses Skull Banner.

DPS Rotation for Arms Spec

The Phase 5 Arms rotation is built around fitting five abilities into every Colossus Smash. That means using Overpower three times inside it, so you need at least two Overpower charges going in. If you do not have them, Slam replaces Overpower. Recklessness lowers the value of Overpower, because Overpower already has a 60% critical chance.

Opener and burst

  1. Charge as the boss is engaged.
  2. Recklessness, Berserker Rage and Skull Banner.
  3. Mortal Strike.
  4. Colossus Smash.
  5. Slam.
  6. Heroic Strike if you risk capping Rage and it does not delay the priorities.

Single target

  1. Charge.
  2. Mortal Strike.
  3. Colossus Smash together with Berserker Rage.
  4. Overpower three times during Colossus Smash if you entered it with more than two charges; otherwise Slam.
  5. Slam as the last ability inside Colossus Smash if Mortal Strike and Colossus Smash are on cooldown.
  6. Overpower outside Colossus Smash.
  7. Slam outside Colossus Smash only if you have no Overpower charges.
  8. Heroic Leap during Colossus Smash if you do not need it for movement.
  9. Heroic Strike when Rage would cap.

Execute (below 20% health)

Execute becomes the main spender: cast it while Colossus Smash is up, and outside it only to keep Sudden Execute up or when above 90 Rage. Overpower is cast in between.

AoE

Wowhead warns that Sweeping Strikes costs 30 Rage and can starve you. Keep Deep Wounds up on every target with Thunder Clap (it now snapshots attack power and damage buffs like Enrage), keep Sweeping Strikes up, then Mortal Strike and Colossus Smash. At 2-3 targets prefer Overpower for Rage efficiency; at 4 or more targets Slam is better. Pair Bladestorm with Recklessness, Skull Banner and Battle Shout.

DPS Rotation for Fury Spec

Fury pools Rage and Raging Blow charges for Colossus Smash, which has a fixed 20-second cooldown. Never press Bloodthirst with two Raging Blow charges. Enrage gives a Raging Blow buff that lasts 12 seconds, holds a maximum of 2 charges, and refreshes with every new charge.

Opener

  1. Charge as the boss is engaged.
  2. Recklessness and Skull Banner, before Bloodthirst, to improve the chance of Enrage.
  3. Bloodthirst.
  4. Colossus Smash.
  5. Storm Bolt.
  6. Raging Blow, then Berserker Rage right after the first Raging Blow.
  7. Heroic Strike during Colossus Smash above 50 Rage.
  8. Heroic Leap during Colossus Smash if not needed for movement.

Single target

  1. Charge.
  2. Bloodthirst if you have fewer than 2 Raging Blow charges.
  3. Colossus Smash.
  4. Berserker Rage during Colossus Smash if you do not have 2 charges.
  5. Storm Bolt on cooldown.
  6. Raging Blow during Colossus Smash.
  7. Heroic Strike during Colossus Smash above 50 Rage.
  8. Raging Blow outside Colossus Smash only with 2 charges.
  9. Berserker Rage if Enrage is missing.
  10. Wild Strike with Bloodsurge, then without.
  11. Battle Shout.
  12. Heroic Strike if Rage would cap.

Execute (below 20% health)

Execute does about 10% more damage than Raging Blow but costs 20 more Rage. Order: Charge, Bloodthirst if Enrage is missing, Colossus Smash, Berserker Rage if Enrage is missing, Storm Bolt, then Execute during Colossus Smash, Raging Blow, Heroic Strike above 80 Rage, Bloodthirst, and Execute outside Colossus Smash above 50 Rage.

AoE

Berserker Rage if Enrage is missing, Bladestorm with Recklessness, Skull Banner and Battle Shout, Bloodthirst unless you hold 2 Raging Blow charges, Whirlwind until Meat Cleaver has enough stacks, Colossus Smash, Raging Blow, Wild Strike with Bloodsurge, Whirlwind on 3 or more targets, Cleave if Rage would cap.

Tank Rotation for Protection Spec

Protection turns Rage into active mitigation. Shield Slam and Revenge generate it, Shield Block covers physical damage and Shield Barrier covers physical and magic damage. Heroic Strike or Cleave are free to cast whenever Ultimatum or Glyph of Incite is active, because they do not share the global cooldown.

Opener

  1. Battle Shout or Commanding Shout 4 seconds before the pull.
  2. Potion of Mogu Power.
  3. Charge.
  4. Devastate three times if assigned to stack Sunder Armor.
  5. Shield Slam, then Revenge.
  6. Thunder Clap to apply Weakened Blows and Deep Wounds.

Single target

  1. Shield Slam.
  2. Revenge.
  3. Shield Block if the damage is only physical.
  4. Shield Barrier if physical and magical damage are mixed.
  5. Execute below 20% health.
  6. Devastate to refresh Deep Wounds and Sunder Armor.
  7. Thunder Clap if Weakened Blows is not active.
  8. Battle Shout.
  9. Devastate when nothing else is available, to proc Sword and Board.

AoE

Thunder Clap first, then Revenge, Shield Slam, Shield Block or Shield Barrier, Execute below 20%, Battle Shout and Devastate as filler. Heroic Leap whenever it is available and does not move the boss.

Warrior BiS Gear – MoP Classic Phase 5

These are the best raid items in Phase 5 according to Wowhead. Raid best-in-slot takes weeks to assemble, so sim your character with what you actually own.

DPS (Arms and Fury)

Slot Item Source
Head Helmet of the Prehistoric Marauder (Tier 16) Thok the Bloodthirsty
Neck Malkorok’s Tainted Dog Tags Malkorok
Shoulders Tusks of Mannoroth Garrosh Hellscream
Cloak Gong-Lu, Strength of Xuen Legendary questline
Chest Breastplate of Shamanic Mirrors Kor’kron Dark Shaman
Bracers Bracers of Blind Hatred Norushen
Gloves Gauntlets of the Prehistoric Marauder (Tier 16) General Nazgrim
Belt Fury: Ashen Wall Girdle. Arms: Demolisher’s Reinforced Belt Kor’kron Dark Shaman. Iron Juggernaut
Legs Legplates of Willful Doom Malkorok
Boots Greaves of Sublime Superiority Sha of Pride
Rings Bloodclaw Band (Kor’kron Dark Shaman) plus Devilfang Band (Thok) for Fury, or Seal of the Forgotten Kings (Kor’kron Dark Shaman) for Arms Siege of Orgrimmar
Trinkets Evil Eye of Galakras and Thok’s Tail Tip Galakras. Thok the Bloodthirsty
Weapon Xal’atoh, Desecrated Image of Gorehowl (two copies for Fury, one for Arms) Garrosh Hellscream

Wowhead recommends only two Tier 16 pieces (helm and gloves) for both DPS specs, because the 4-piece bonus is weak and the chest and shoulder pieces lack Critical Strike. The 2-piece gives 5 Rage on special attacks against a target with Colossus Smash. Evil Eye of Galakras is called “by far and leagues better” than other trinkets, because it also shortens the cooldowns of talents like Bladestorm and Storm Bolt (to 20 seconds for Storm Bolt). Fusion-Fire Core is the Arms pick on AoE fights.

The cloak is the biggest single upgrade. Gong-Lu is 20 item levels above anything from Siege of Orgrimmar and carries four secondary stats, plus the Flurry of Xuen proc. Our legendary cloak guide walks through the five chapters.

Protection

Slot Item Source
Head Greathelm of the Warchief Garrosh Hellscream
Neck Blackfuse’s Blasting Cord Siegecrafter Blackfuse
Shoulders Pauldrons of Violent Eruption Immerseus
Chest Earthbreaker’s Steaming Chestplate Iron Juggernaut
Bracers Blood Rage Bracers Malkorok
Gloves Handguards of the Prehistoric Marauder (Tier 16) General Nazgrim
Belt Untarnishable Greatbelt Secured Stockpile of Pandaren Spoils
Legs Legguards of the Prehistoric Marauder (Tier 16) Skeer the Bloodseeker
Boots Treads of Unchained Hate Immerseus
Rings Galakrond Control Band and Ring of the Iron Tomb Galakras. Earthbreaker Haromm
Trinkets Skeer’s Bloodsoaked Talisman and Vial of Living Corruption Skeer the Bloodseeker. Malkorok
Weapon Haromm’s Frozen Crescent Earthbreaker Haromm
Shield Shield of Mockery Sha of Pride

The Tier 16 tank 2-piece heals you for 30% of the damage blocked with a shield and absorbed by Shield Barrier, so Wowhead keeps it, but skips the 4-piece: it is weaker than 6 extra item levels from other gear. Most tier pieces carry Mastery, which is a poor tank stat. For the cloak, Wowhead says most players should start with Qian-Ying, Fortitude of Niuzao, a cheat-death effect with a 2-minute cooldown, especially for later bosses.

Mists of Pandaria Classic Warrior Stat Priority

The Phase 5 lists below come from Wowhead. Stats that appear on gear automatically, like Strength, are not something to chase.

DPS Warrior Stat Priority

  1. Hit and Expertise to 7.5% each. At 7.5% Hit special attacks no longer miss raid bosses, and at 7.5% Expertise bosses cannot dodge you (they can still parry, so stand behind them).
  2. Strength.
  3. Critical Strike. Best secondary stat: it raises Enrage uptime, and for Fury also the number of Raging Blow charges.
  4. Mastery. Arms: more Strikes of Opportunity hits, so more Sudden Death. Fury: Enrage deals more damage.
  5. Haste. Weak for Warriors, it only adds some Rage generation.
  6. Hit above 7.5% up to 26.5%, which only prevents auto-attack misses. Last priority.

Draenei cut the Hit cap to 6.5% from gear with Heroic Presence, and one Critical Strike rating is worth about 1.07 Strength for Fury.

Tank Warrior Stat Priority

Wowhead gives four orders, depending on how you tank:

Style Order
Most defensive Stamina, 7.5% Hit, 7.5% Expertise, 15% Expertise, Parry, Strength, Dodge, Mastery, Crit, Haste
Balanced 7.5% Hit, 7.5% Expertise, 15% Expertise, Parry, Strength, Dodge, Crit, Stamina, Mastery, Haste
Offensive 7.5% Hit, 7.5% Expertise, 15% Expertise, Crit, Parry, Dodge, Strength, Mastery, Haste, Stamina
Off-tank on 10-player (easy Arms swap) 7.5% Hit, 7.5% Expertise, Crit, Strength, Mastery, 15% Expertise, Parry, Dodge, Haste, Stamina

Parry is the stat that gives value twice: through Riposte, 75% of your Parry and Dodge rating becomes Crit for 20 seconds after you dodge or parry an attack, and Parry scales better than Dodge because Dodge has stronger diminishing returns. Use Reforging to reach the Hit and Expertise caps.

MoP Classic Warrior Talent Build

Wowhead’s default DPS build (Arms and Fury share rows 2, 3 and 5). Swap rows to match the fight; you need a Tome of the Clear Mind to change talents out of town, and Dust of Disappearance at lower levels.

Level Pick Why
15 Juggernaut (Fury); Double Time unless you charge-weave (Arms) Juggernaut cuts the Charge cooldown by 8 seconds for more Rage. Double Time gives two Charges, each with a 20-second cooldown
30 Enraged Regeneration Heals 10% instantly and 10% over 5 seconds, doubled while Enraged. Take Second Wind for solo farming
45 Disrupting Shout AoE interrupt within 10 yards, sharing a cooldown with Pummel
60 Bladestorm for AoE, Dragon Roar for pure single target Dragon Roar always crits and ignores armor
75 Vigilance Reduces an ally’s damage taken by 30% for 12 seconds. Wowhead calls it one of the strongest tank externals
90 Storm Bolt (Fury default), Bloodbath for big AoE Storm Bolt has a 30-second cooldown, 20 seconds with Evil Eye of Galakras. Avatar is the weakest pick for Fury

Protection uses the same rows with Vigilance as its main raid utility; see Wowhead’s Protection talent page for tank-specific swaps.

Warrior Glyphs in MoP Classic

Fury Warriors should always take Glyph of Unending Rage, then Glyph of Bull Rush, then a situational third glyph. Arms’ default build takes the same two plus Glyph of Enraged Speed.

Major Glyphs

  • Glyph of Unending Rage: maximum Rage +20, so you can pool Rage without capping. Always take it.
  • Glyph of Bull Rush: Charge generates 15 extra Rage. Second glyph in every fight.
  • Glyph of Death from Above: Heroic Leap cooldown reduced by 15 seconds (to 30). Third glyph in most fights.
  • Glyph of Raging Wind: Raging Blow increases your next Whirlwind by 10%. Third glyph for most Fury AoE fights.
  • Glyph of Rude Interruption: an interrupt gives 6% damage for 20 seconds. Third glyph if you can interrupt reliably.
  • Glyph of Enraged Speed: 20% movement speed while Enraged, for movement-heavy fights.
  • Glyph of Colossus Smash: applies a stack of Sunder Armor. Use it if the raid lacks another armor debuff.

Minor Glyphs

  • Glyph of Intimidating Shout: feared enemies stand still instead of running into other packs.
  • Glyph of the Subtle Defender: removes the extra threat from Defensive Stance.
  • Glyph of Bloody Healing: bandages heal 20% more while Deep Wounds is active on you.

Best Warrior Consumables in MoP Classic

Flask, potion and food are the same for every DPS Warrior.

Best Food Buffs

Role Food
DPS Black Pepper Ribs and Shrimp, Fluffy Silkfeather Omelet or Pandaren Treasure Noodle Soup (same maximum bonus). Raid feasts: Banquet of the Brew, Grill or Oven
Tank Spicy Salmon, Spicy Vegetable Chips, Chun Tian Spring Rolls or Mango Ice

Wowhead notes that most raiders just eat the Banquets and Feasts.

Best Flask

Flask of Winter’s Bite gives 1,000 Strength for one hour and is the best flask for DPS Warriors. If you craft your own flasks, our MoP Classic professions guide shows the profession bonuses.

Best Combat Potions

Potion of Mogu Power gives 4,000 Strength for 25 seconds. Use it one second before the pull and again when your burst cooldowns line up. Tanks can also use Potion of the Mountains for extra mitigation.

Tanks swap some of these for defensive versions (for example Fur Lining – Stamina on bracers); check Wowhead’s Protection enchant page before enchanting.

Best Warrior Race – MoP Classic

Wowhead’s Fury racial overview, which applies to Arms as well: Orc is the best Warrior race, because there is no stronger racial for the class than Blood Fury (on-demand attack power), plus Axe Specialization (+1% Expertise). Alliance players should consider Worgen.

Horde

Race Why
Orc Blood Fury and Axe Specialization. Hardiness (shorter stuns) helps in PvP
Troll Berserking lines up with Recklessness and Skull Banner, but Haste is the weakest stat. Beast Slaying adds 5% damage to Beast bosses, which are rare
Goblin Time is Money (+1% Haste), Rocket Jump
Undead, Tauren, Blood Elf Weaker choices for raid damage

Alliance

Race Why
Worgen Viciousness: +1% Crit, which raises Enrage uptime. Strongest Alliance damage race
Draenei Heroic Presence: +1% Hit, so you need 6.5% from gear
Human Quality of life, and Will to Survive shares a cooldown with the PvP trinket, which frees a trinket slot in PvP
Dwarf, Gnome Small expertise bonuses with specific weapon types

Pandaren (either faction) doubles the effect of food through Epicurean, up to 300 bonus Strength once you eat, but has no strong active racial.

MoP Classic Warrior PvP Guide

Arms is the PvP spec. Icy Veins’ final-season arena list (1 June 2026) puts Warrior in S-tier among DPS classes. Fury has more burst with Recklessness and Bloodbath, and self-healing with Bloodthirst, but no healing reduction or crowd control, so it fits casual battlegrounds better than arena. See our MoP Classic PvP tier list for team compositions.

Core PvP Tools

  • Mortal Strike: reduces enemy healing received.
  • Shockwave: stuns enemies in a frontal cone; the cooldown drops to 20 seconds when it hits 3 or more targets.
  • Storm Bolt: ranged single-target stun.
  • Disarm: removes the weapon damage of the target for a short time.
  • Spell Reflection / Mass Spell Reflection: reflects the next spell on you (and allies within 20 yards for the mass version).
  • Heroic Leap: gap closer or escape.
  • Second Wind: passive healing under 35% health.

Warrior Class Mechanics in MoP Classic

Warriors still use stances: Berserker Stance for damage (Wowhead’s Glyph of Unending Rage note refers to it) and Defensive Stance for tanking, which adds threat that Glyph of the Subtle Defender removes.

Core Resource: Rage

Rage comes from dealing and taking damage and from abilities such as Charge, Bloodthirst, Shield Slam and Revenge. In MoP Bloodthirst generates 10 Rage instead of costing it. Rage is spent on Heroic Strike, Cleave, Execute, Mortal Strike and the Protection mitigation spells. Plan your Rage around the cooldown windows: pool before Colossus Smash and spend inside it. A Rage-capped Warrior wastes damage, and a starved one cannot use its big abilities.

Fury Warrior in Phase 5

This section replaces our separate Fury Warrior guide. Fury is A-tier in Wowhead’s Phase 5 DPS list. It rewards high Critical Strike, because Bloodthirst and Colossus Smash crits cause Enrage and give a Raging Blow charge.

Strengths Weaknesses
Strong single-target damage Gear dependent: Hit, Expertise and Crit are needed
Good cleave through Meat Cleaver, up to 4 targets Rage starvation if you press Bloodthirst with 2 charges
Skull Banner, Rallying Cry, Vigilance for the raid No healing reduction or crowd control for arena
Mobility from Charge, Heroic Leap and Double Time or Juggernaut Weak Haste scaling

What MoP changed for Fury

  • Bloodthirst generates 10 Rage.
  • Raging Blow uses a 2-charge system that is fed by Enrage.
  • Whirlwind stacks Meat Cleaver, and Raging Blow then hits extra targets.
  • Recklessness gives +30% Crit for 12 seconds on a 3-minute cooldown.
  • Charge has no minimum range.
  • Shattering Throw is instant and does not reset the swing timer.
  • Bladestorm lets you cast shouts while spinning.

Tier 16 and gear

Fury runs two pieces of Tier 16 (helm and gloves) and takes the other slots from the best non-set drops, as the BiS table above shows.

Challenge Modes

Challenge Modes lock gear at item level 463. Fury fits them thanks to cleave and mobility. See our MoP Classic Challenge Mode guide for the times and rewards.

Best Professions for Warriors in MoP Classic

Profession Benefit
Engineering Synapse Springs on gloves, about 1,920 Strength (Warcraft Tavern), plus Nitro Boosts
Blacksmithing Two extra sockets, on bracers and gloves
Alchemy Mixology adds to elixir and flask effects and makes flasks last longer
Leatherworking Fur Lining for bracers and Draconic Leg Reinforcements for legs
Inscription Tiger Fang shoulder inscriptions
Enchanting Ring enchants
Tailoring Swordguard Embroidery for the cloak

Engineering plus Blacksmithing is the usual pairing for DPS. Numbers for the other crafts are in our best professions guide.

Warrior Macros – MoP Classic

These use standard macro syntax. We have not tested every line in game for Phase 5, so check them once before relying on them.

Is a Warrior a Good Pick in Phase 5?

Yes, with a caveat: Warrior damage is a solid mid-table result in raids (Fury A, Arms B), but Warriors bring Skull Banner, Vigilance and Rallying Cry, which the raid values more than a few points of damage. Protection is a strong 25-player tank. If you need a ready set, our MoP Classic gearing services cover Siege of Orgrimmar loot.
