What is the Blood Moon Event in WoW SoD?

The Blood Moon event is a free-for-all PvP battle where all players are hostile to each other. This battle royale-style mode takes place exclusively in Stranglethorn Vale and revolves around slaying other players to collect Blood for the Blood Loa buff.

Upon defeating an opponent, you earn stacks of this buff (up to 255). However, dying means losing part of your collected stacks. Managing survival and aggression is key!

Blood Moon Locations and Mechanics

  • Event Area: Stranglethorn Vale
  • Red Fog Indicator: Once the event starts, a red fog blankets the area
  • Blood Moon Altars: Located across the map; used to exchange Blood for the Blood Loa buff for Massacre Coins
  • Currency Tiers:
    • Copper Massacre Coin (1 per Blood for the Blood Loa stack)
    • 100 Copper → 1 Silver Massacre Coin
    • 100 Silver → 1 Gold Massacre Coin (used for mounts and elite rewards)

Beware! Blood Moon Altars are heavily contested PvP zones where players will fight to claim rewards.

How to Participate in Blood Moon

Unlike other PvP events, there’s no sign-up required. When the event starts, all players within Stranglethorn Vale automatically enter combat mode.

  • Watch for the Red Fog → indicates event activation
  • Survive and slay → accumulate Blood for the Blood Loa buff
  • Exchange your stacks → head to Blood Moon Altars to trade for Massacre Coins

How to Opt Out of Blood Moon

If you prefer avoiding PvP, speak to a Zandalarian Emissary to obtain the Zandalari Ward buff, which makes you immune to same-faction attacks.
