Key Takeaways
Here is the short version of how Affliction Warlock works in WoW Forever before we go deep into talents, rotations and gear.
- Playstyle: Affliction is a ranged DPS spec that wins through DoTs, Shadow damage, drain spells and demon utility rather than raw burst.
- New talents: WoW Forever adds Malediction, Pandemic, Malevolence, Soul Harvesting, Improved Drains and Wrack to the Affliction tree.
- Your filler: Wrack becomes the key filler once you reach the deeper Affliction talents, and it makes your other Shadow DoTs hurt more.
- Best races: Gnome, Undead and Orc have the most useful racials for the spec.
- Leveling: you grind with DoTs, a demon holding threat, Wand attacks and Fear to split larger pulls.
- Stats and professions: Spell Power and Spell Hit come first, then Shadow Damage and Critical Strike, and Tailoring + Enchanting is the best profession pair for caster gear.
Note: The current Beta caps characters at level 20. The level 30 and level 60 recommendations in this guide use data from WoW Forever Patch 1.60.1, so treat them as a plan that can still shift.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Overview
Affliction Warlock in WoW Forever is a ranged DPS specialization built on damage-over-time effects, Banes and drain spells. Most of your damage does not come from a single big hit. You put effects on the target, keep them rolling, and let the numbers add up while you manage your Health and Mana at the same time.
See how the damage specs compare in the WoW Forever DPS ranking.
Corruption, Bane of Agony and Siphon Life form the backbone of that sustained damage. Wrack sits on top as a powerful filler: it deals damage itself and also boosts what your other Shadow damage-over-time effects deal. On top of that, the more Affliction effects you have running on a target, the better your drains get thanks to Soul Siphon, so spreading and maintaining DoTs is rewarded twice.
WoW Forever also gives Affliction several brand-new talents that make the spec feel more complete than it did in Classic. Malediction raises your periodic damage, while Pandemic improves the critical strike damage of several Affliction spells. Soul Harvesting improves your Mana regeneration after enemies die under Drain Soul, which helps you keep casting through longer encounters.
If you would rather skip the early grind and jump straight into group content, our WoW Forever powerleveling can bring an Affliction Warlock to the point where dungeons are open to you.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Strengths and Weaknesses
Affliction is a spec of trade-offs, and nearly all of them come from the same source: damage over time. The table below shows where the spec shines and where it can struggle, so you know what you are signing up for.
| Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|
| Strong sustained damage from multiple damage-over-time effects | Damage takes time to build up on new targets |
| Strong single-target pressure with Corruption, Bane of Agony and other DoTs | Maintaining several DoTs can make the rotation more demanding |
| Drain Soul provides strong damage against low-health targets | Frequent target switching can reduce overall damage |
| Warlock utility and survivability remain useful alongside strong Shadow damage | Relies heavily on keeping DoTs active to maintain high damage |
The practical takeaway is simple. Affliction rewards long, well-planned fights and punishes constant target hopping. If you enjoy setting up a target and watching the damage stack, you will feel at home. If you like instant burst, expect to adjust.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Best Race
The best races for Affliction Warlock in WoW Forever are Gnome, Undead and Orc. Their racial abilities give you useful caster stats, crowd control utility and offensive bonuses, and each of them fits a slightly different playstyle.
| Race | Faction | Why It Works for Affliction Warlock |
|---|---|---|
| Gnome | Alliance | Expansive Mind increases Intelligence, while Escape Artist helps break movement-impairing effects. |
| Undead | Horde | Will of the Forsaken provides strong crowd control utility, while Cannibalize restores Health after combat. |
| Orc | Horde | Blood Fury provides an offensive cooldown, while Hardiness reduces the duration of stun effects. |
Gnome is the pick for Alliance players who want more Intelligence and an answer to being slowed or rooted. On the Horde side, Undead leans toward utility and recovery, while Orc leans toward offense with a cooldown and stun resistance. None of them is mandatory, so play the race you like and you will still be a fine Affliction Warlock.
When you want to get ready for endgame on one of these races without spending every evening on it, a WoW Forever starter setup from our store is one way to get going faster.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Changes
The Affliction changes in WoW Forever push the specialization toward damage-over-time effects and sustained Shadow damage. DoTs can now critically strike, the damage-dealing Curses have been turned into Banes, and Wrack gives Affliction a dedicated drain filler that Classic never had.
- New abilities and talents: Wrack, Malediction, Soul Harvesting, Improved Drains, Pandemic and Malevolence add fresh ways to increase periodic damage, improve drains, manage Mana and scale critical strikes.
- Changes from Classic: damage-dealing Curses are split into Banes, so effects such as Bane of Agony and Curse of the Elements can be used together. Suppression now provides Hit for class abilities and reduces threat, while Soul Siphon increases Drain Life, Drain Soul and Wrack damage based on the number of Affliction effects active on the target.
New WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Abilities and Talents
These additions strengthen the DoT-based rotation. Wrack gives you a dedicated Shadow damage spell, and Soul Siphon turns every extra Affliction effect on the target into more drain damage. The table lists each new piece, what it does and how it helps you in practice.
| Ability or Talent | Effect | DPS Use |
|---|---|---|
| Malediction | Increases all periodic damage dealt by your Warlock spells by 10%. | Provides a direct increase to your DoT damage. |
| Soul Harvesting | Grants Soul Harvest for 10 sec when a victim dies while afflicted by your Drain Soul. Soul Harvest restores Mana at 100% of its normal rate while casting and doubles Mana regeneration. | Improves Mana regeneration after killing enemies with Drain Soul, helping you maintain your spells. |
| Improved Drains | Increases the health drained or damage dealt by Drain Life, Drain Soul and Wrack by 20%. | Improves both your drain damage and the healing from Drain Life. |
| Pandemic | Increases the critical strike damage bonus of Corruption, Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom, Drain Soul, Drain Life, Siphon Life and Wrack by 100%. | Makes critical strikes from your main Affliction and drain spells deal more damage. |
| Malevolence | Increases the critical effect chance of your Shadow spells by 5%. | Increases the chance for your Shadow spells to critically strike. |
| Wrack | Deals 36 Shadow damage every second for 6 sec and increases the damage taken from your other Shadow damage-over-time effects by 10%. | Deals additional DoT damage while amplifying your other Shadow periodic effects. |
Notice how these pieces fit together. Malediction and Malevolence raise the baseline, Pandemic makes critical hits hit harder, Improved Drains and Soul Siphon make the drain filler worth casting, and Wrack amplifies everything else. Soul Harvesting is the quiet one: it does not add damage directly, but a bit of free Mana after each Drain Soul kill lets you cast more.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Changes from Classic
Several existing Warlock abilities and talents were reworked as well, and most of those changes help Affliction with DoT damage, resource management and PvE utility. Here are the major ones:
- Suppression now gives 5% Hit and reduces all threat generated by 20%, which makes it useful for PvE builds.
- Bane of Agony and Bane of Doom are separated from utility Curses, so a damage-dealing Bane can run alongside a Curse such as Curse of the Elements.
- Curse of the Elements now affects all schools of magic, including Arcane, Nature and Holy damage.
- Life Tap now scales with Spirit, which increases the amount of Mana the ability restores.
- Improved Corruption now reduces the cast time of Corruption by 2 seconds and increases its damage by 10%.
- Improved Bane of Agony increases the damage of Bane of Agony by 10%.
- Drain Soul can now generate Soul Shards from damage ticks instead of only when a target dies.
- Soul Siphon increases the damage or healing of Drain Life, Drain Soul and Wrack by 12% for each other Affliction effect on the target, up to 36%.
- Shadow Mastery increases damage dealt and life drained by Shadow spells by 2%.
- Fel Concentration now gives a 70% chance to avoid interruptions while casting or channeling Drain Life, Drain Mana, Drain Soul or Wrack.
The biggest quality-of-life wins are the Bane and Curse split and the Soul Shard generation from Drain Soul ticks. You no longer have to choose between your damage Bane and your utility Curse, and you are not forced to wait for a kill to refill your shards. For a leveling Warlock, that alone smooths out a lot of downtime.
Best WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Builds
The main Affliction builds in WoW Forever focus on stronger DoTs, better Spell Hit, drain damage and Shadow spell power. As deeper talent tiers open up, grab the key Affliction talents first and only then spend points in other trees. There are three milestones to plan for:
- Level 20 build: the 12/0/0 setup improves Corruption and unlocks the key early Affliction talents.
- Level 30 build: the 21/0/0 setup gives you stronger DoTs, drain spells and Nightfall procs.
- Level 60 build: the recommended Affliction-focused setup is 36/8/8.
Keep in mind that the Beta stops at level 20 for now, so the later builds are a roadmap rather than something you can test today. Where the source numbers look slightly inconsistent between builds, we point it out below and you should expect small changes before release.
Not sure which class to play? Our WoW Forever best classes tier list can help.
WoW Forever Level 20 Affliction Warlock Build
Our recommended talent build at level 20 is 12/0/0. It improves Corruption, increases your Spell Hit and unlocks Amplify Curse early in the Affliction tree. Spend your points in this order:
| Level | Talent | Ranks | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10–14 | Suppression | 5/5 | Improves your chance to hit with class abilities. |
| 15–19 | Improved Corruption | 5/5 | Reduces the cast time of Corruption and increases its damage. |
| 20 | Amplify Curse | 1/1 | Improves the effect of your next Curse. |
| 20 | Pandemic | 1/3 | Increases the critical strike damage of several Affliction spells. |
This early setup is about two things: stronger DoT damage and spells that actually land. At level 20 you also gain Amplify Curse and the first point in Pandemic, which is a small taste of how the spec scales later.
Hall of Thanes is a good early place to practice DoT management, Mana control and target switching, and it is also where several of the level 20 gear pieces further down come from. If you want to skip the learning curve, our dungeon service lets you hand the run over to someone else.
WoW Forever Level 30 Affliction Warlock Build
At level 30 the build becomes 21/0/0. It focuses on stronger DoTs, better Drain Life performance and smoother casting through the Affliction tree. Spend the points in this order:
- Put 2 points into Suppression.
- Complete Improved Corruption with 5/5 points.
- Take 5/5 Malediction to increase your periodic damage.
- Complete Improved Drains with 3/3 points.
- Take 3/3 Fel Concentration to reduce interruptions while channeling your drain spells.
- Add 2/2 Nightfall for additional Shadow Bolt procs.
- Take Siphon Life with the final point.
This route gives Affliction stronger DoTs and drains and adds proc-based damage and safer casting, which is exactly what you want for leveling and dungeons. Note that this order does not match the level 20 table above point for point, since it puts only 2 points into Suppression and leaves out Amplify Curse and Pandemic. Beta numbers may change, so follow the order you see in the current build and respec if the final version differs.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Endgame Build
The level 60 Affliction build keeps Affliction as the main tree and reaches Wrack before the remaining points go elsewhere. The table lists the recommended talents tree by tree.
| Talent Tree | Recommended Talents |
|---|---|
| Affliction (35 points) | Suppression 5/5, Improved Corruption 5/5, Malediction 5/5, Improved Drains 3/3, Amplify Curse 1/1, Pandemic 3/3, Nightfall 2/2, Siphon Life 1/1, Shadow Mastery 5/5, Wrack 1/1 |
| Demonology (8 points) | Demonic Embrace 5/5, Demonic Aegis 2/2, Fel Vitality 1/3 |
| Destruction (8 points) | Improved Shadow Bolt 4/4, remaining points in the Destruction tree |
A small warning about the numbers: the summary above calls this a 36/8/8 build, while the table header says 35 Affliction points, and the listed Affliction talents add up to 31 ranks. Some Affliction points are therefore not spelled out, and the exact spend may be adjusted during the Beta. The core idea is clear regardless: finish the strong Affliction talents, reach Wrack, then pick up Demonic Embrace, Demonic Aegis and Improved Shadow Bolt with the points that remain.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Abilities
Affliction in WoW Forever has a toolkit built around sustained Shadow damage, drain spells and careful target management. Before we look at each group in detail, here is the quick split:
- Damage abilities: Corruption, Bane of Agony, Siphon Life, Drain Soul and Wrack provide most of the sustained damage.
- Defensive abilities: Drain Life and Create Healthstone give you easy ways to restore Health.
- Utility: Fear, Howl of Terror, Curse of Exhaustion and Spell Lock give you crowd control, movement reduction and an interrupt.
Once these basics feel natural, you can start chaining them into rotations for different fights.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Damage Abilities
Damage abilities are about keeping your DoTs up and using drain spells to fill the gaps in your rotation.
| Ability | Main Use |
|---|---|
| Corruption | Core DoT that deals Shadow damage over 18 seconds. Keep it active on your targets. |
| Bane of Agony | Main Bane for shorter fights, dealing increasing Shadow damage as it reaches the end of its duration. |
| Bane of Doom | Long-duration Bane that deals its damage after 1 minute and gains a large bonus from Spell Power. |
| Siphon Life | Deals Shadow damage over time while restoring Health to the Warlock with each tick. |
| Drain Soul | Channels Shadow damage and can generate Soul Shards from damage ticks or when the target dies while being drained. |
| Drain Life | Deals Shadow damage while healing the Warlock, serving as the main filler before Wrack becomes available. |
| Wrack | Deals Shadow damage every second for 6 seconds and increases damage taken from your other Shadow DoTs by 10%. |
The two Banes do different jobs. Bane of Agony is the everyday choice because its damage ramps up and it pays off even in shorter fights. Bane of Doom is a long-term investment that only pays out after 1 minute, so save it for targets that will live that long.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Defensive Abilities
Staying alive matters as much as dealing damage. Your drain spells provide healing, while your demon, armor buffs and defensive cooldowns give you additional protection.
| Ability | Main Use |
|---|---|
| Drain Life | Deals Shadow damage while restoring Health to the Warlock. |
| Death Coil | Instantly applies a short Horror effect and restores Health to the Warlock. |
| Create Healthstone | Creates a consumable Healthstone that instantly restores Health when used. |
| Demon Armor | Increases Armor and Health regeneration, providing passive physical defense and sustain. |
| Shadow Ward | Absorbs incoming Shadow damage, making it useful against encounters with significant Shadow damage. |
| Sacrifice | Sacrifices the Voidwalker to give the Warlock a damage-absorbing shield. |
Demon Armor is the passive layer you keep on all the time, Drain Life and Create Healthstone are your regular healing, and Death Coil is the emergency button because it both stops an attacker for a moment and gives Health back. Shadow Ward is situational, so bring it out only when a fight sends a lot of Shadow damage your way.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Utility
The class brings a lot of utility for crowd control, interrupts, movement control and group support. These abilities let you deal with dangerous enemies while still doing your job as a ranged DPS.
| Utility | Main Use |
|---|---|
| Fear | Fears an enemy for up to 20 seconds, providing reliable crowd control against suitable targets. |
| Howl of Terror | Fears nearby enemies, giving the Warlock an AoE crowd-control option. |
| Curse of Exhaustion | Reduces an enemy’s movement speed by 30% for 12 seconds. |
| Curse of the Elements | Reduces the target’s resistance to all schools of magic, including Arcane, Nature and Holy. |
| Spell Lock | Interrupts an enemy spell and can lock the interrupted school of magic when used through the Felhunter. |
| Create Healthstone | Creates a Healthstone that can be used by the Warlock or a party member to restore Health. |
| Create Soulstone | Creates a Soulstone that can resurrect a dead party member or provide a resurrection effect if used before death. |
| Ritual of Summoning | Allows the Warlock and two other party members to summon a group member to their location. |
In a group, Create Healthstone, Create Soulstone and Ritual of Summoning make you one of the most useful members of the party even outside of combat. In solo play, Fear and Curse of Exhaustion are the tools that keep a bad pull from turning into a wipe.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Rotation
The level 20 rotation is about applying your DoTs in the right order and then leaning on your Wand for sustained damage. Drain Life is not worth using regularly at this level, because you do not yet have the talents that improve it enough.
- Single-target rotation: send in your Succubus, then apply Bane of Agony, Corruption and Immolate, then use your Wand.
- DoT priority: apply Bane of Agony first because its damage builds over time, then use Corruption and finish with Immolate.
- Wand damage: use your Wand after your DoTs are up. Wands benefit from roughly 30% of your Spell Power, so Spell Power gear helps both your spells and your Wand attacks.
- Level 20 Mana management: save Mana for applying DoTs and use your Wand as the main filler instead of repeatedly casting Drain Life.
The logic is easy to remember. Casts that take time to deal their damage go first, so they have the longest possible window to tick. Everything after that is cheap filler that does not drain your Mana bar. As you gain talents the filler changes from the Wand to Drain Life and later Wrack, but the order of the DoTs stays the same.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Cooldowns
Affliction has fewer direct damage cooldowns than some other DPS classes. Most of your damage comes from DoTs and from talents that make periodic damage stronger, while a few abilities add extra burst or damage during longer fights. The three talents below act as your permanent power-ups.
- Malediction: increases all periodic damage dealt by your Warlock spells by 10%. This affects your main DoTs and other periodic effects.
- Pandemic: increases the critical strike damage bonus of Corruption, Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom, Drain Soul, Drain Life, Siphon Life and Wrack by 100%.
- Malevolence: increases the critical effect chance of your Shadow spells by 5%, improving abilities such as Corruption, Bane of Agony, Drain Life, Drain Soul and Shadow Bolt.
Because these are always-on effects, there is no timing puzzle to solve with them. Your job is simply to have them in your build and to keep your spells running so that they have something to improve.

WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Single-Target Rotation
The single-target rotation keeps your DoTs active and uses filler spells between them. Follow this order:
- Apply Bane of Agony early so it has time to deal its full damage.
- Keep Corruption active throughout the fight.
- Apply Siphon Life once you unlock it at level 30.
- Use Wrack as your main filler once you unlock it.
- Use Shadow Bolt when Nightfall procs for an instant cast.
- Use Drain Soul to finish low-health enemies and generate Soul Shards from its damage ticks.
- Use Life Tap when you need Mana, then recover the lost Health with Drain Life when needed.
Longer fights give your DoTs more time to deal their full damage. Keep your main effects active and use Wrack between refreshes to maintain your damage. When you are watching your Mana, remember the pairing in the last step: Life Tap converts Health into Mana, and the drain brings the Health back.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock AoE Rotation
AoE for Affliction is mostly about spreading your DoTs across the pack and using Fear to keep dangerous enemies away. Once your DoTs are active, use Drain Life or Wrack to keep dealing damage while your pet holds aggro.
- Start with DoTs: send your pet at the first enemy, then cast Bane of Agony and Corruption. Apply them to the other targets as well.
- Spread Siphon Life: once you learn it, add it to your DoT rotation on targets that will live long enough for the effect to deal its damage.
- Use Fear: fear one of the more dangerous enemies when you need to reduce the number of targets attacking you or your pet. Reapply it if the Fear ends while the enemy is still alive.
- Use Drain Life: after your DoTs are up, use it on targets that are attacking you or your pet. It deals damage while restoring your Health.
- Use Wrack: once you unlock it, make it your main filler. It deals Shadow damage and makes the target take more damage from your other Shadow DoTs.
- Use AoE abilities: Rain of Fire and Hellfire are useful when several enemies are grouped together.
- Watch for Nightfall: when it procs, use the instant Shadow Bolt on a priority target.
- Use Life Tap when needed: it converts your Health into Mana. If you are already at full Health and need Mana, use it before Drain Life so the healing from Drain Life is not wasted.
Warning: Hellfire also damages you, so use it only when you can handle the extra damage.
Ruins of Lordaeron is a useful dungeon for practicing AoE and DoT management, because it throws groups of enemies at you where spreading effects pays off.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Defensive Cooldowns
Affliction has several defensive abilities that help you survive incoming damage and recover Health. Think of them as a small toolbox, from regular healing to an emergency button.
- Death Coil: fears the target and restores your Health, giving you time to recover.
- Drain Life: deals Shadow damage while restoring your Health.
- Shadow Ward: absorbs incoming Shadow damage.
- Demon Armor: increases your Armor and Health regeneration.
- Create Healthstone: creates a Healthstone that restores Health when used.
- Sacrifice: sacrifices your Voidwalker to give you a damage-absorbing shield.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Leveling
Leveling changes noticeably as you unlock new talents and demons. From levels 10 to 19, the Voidwalker can handle several mobs while you apply DoTs, which makes bigger pulls realistic. At level 20 the Succubus becomes an option for faster kills thanks to its higher damage, while the Voidwalker stays useful when you need stronger threat.
At level 30, Siphon Life adds another DoT to your rotation, and later talents give Affliction better tools against multiple targets. Once you reach 31 points in Affliction, Wrack becomes available and gives you a stronger filler for the rest of the leveling process.
For the fastest solo pulls, spread your DoTs over several enemies instead of waiting for one target to die before you start on the next. Use Fear when you need to take one enemy out of the fight, and let your Voidwalker deal with the rest.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Leveling Build
The leveling build picks up the key DoT, drain and Shadow damage talents as you progress. The table shows the main milestones, from the early levels through the final build.
| Level | Leveling Milestone |
|---|---|
| 10 | Take 5/5 Suppression. |
| 15 | Take 5/5 Improved Corruption. |
| 20 | Take 5/5 Malediction. |
| 25 | Take 3/3 Improved Drains and 1/1 Amplify Curse. |
| 30 | Take 3/3 Pandemic and 2/2 Nightfall. |
| 35 | Take 1/1 Siphon Life and 5/5 Shadow Mastery. |
| 40 | Take 1/1 Wrack, the 31-point Affliction talent. |
| 45 | Take 5/5 Demonic Embrace and 2/2 Demonic Aegis. |
| 50 | Take 3/3 Fel Vitality and 1/1 Demonic Sacrifice. |
| 60 | Finish with 4/4 Improved Shadow Bolt and the remaining points in the final build. |
One thing worth flagging: this milestone path puts Malediction at level 20, while the level 20 build earlier in the guide reaches Amplify Curse and Pandemic instead, and the level 30 list in the builds section places Siphon Life earlier than this table does. These are Beta numbers and the sources do not fully agree, so treat the milestones as a general direction and check the in-game talent window as you go.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Leveling Rotation
The leveling rotation is built around applying your main DoTs before letting your pet hold the enemies. Cast Bane of Agony first, then Corruption and Immolate. After that, use your Wand as the main filler while the DoTs deal damage.
At level 30, add Siphon Life to the DoT rotation. Against several enemies, spread your DoTs between targets while your pet holds threat, and use Fear whenever you need to take one enemy out of the fight.
Tip: Avoid using Drain Life as your main filler at level 20. Your early Affliction talents do not improve it enough, so using your Wand after applying your DoTs is more efficient.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Class Quest Pets
Warlocks unlock several demons through class quests as they level. Before the level 20 Beta cap, the main pet quests are the Voidwalker at level 10 and the Sayaad at level 20. The Succubus and the Incubus are the same pet with separate appearances and quest chains, so pick the one whose chain you prefer.
| Pet | Level | Details | Starting Quest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Voidwalker | 10 | The main choice when you need something to hold aggro. Its Torment generates more threat in WoW Forever than in Classic. | Human: Gakin’s Summons. Gnome: The Slaughtered Lamb. Orc/Troll: Gan’rul’s Summons. Undead: Halgar’s Summons. |
| Succubus | 20 | The Succubus deals high damage and is the highest-damage pet in current Beta builds. The quest also rewards the Small Soul Pouch. | Human/Gnome: Devourer of Souls. Orc/Troll: Devourer of Souls. Undead: Devourer of Souls. |
| Incubus | 20 | The same pet as the Succubus with a separate appearance and quest chain. | Warlock trainers in capital cities. Stormwind: What Is Love?. Undercity: Hearts of the Lovers. Orgrimmar: Love Hurts. |
For most Affliction play, the rule of thumb is simple: Voidwalker when survival and threat matter, Succubus when you want to kill faster and the pack is manageable. Both quests are worth doing early, because having each demon available lets you switch to whichever one the situation asks for.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Stat Priority
Affliction prioritizes Spell Power and Spell Hit, followed by Shadow Damage and Critical Strike. Spell Power boosts your DoTs and drain spells, while Hit lowers the chance that your spells miss. Since a missed DoT is a lot of lost damage, Hit matters more here than it might seem.
Use this order when comparing gear:
- Spell Power
- Spell Hit, until you reach the cap
- Shadow Damage
- Critical Strike
- Intellect
- Stamina
- Spirit
- Haste
Two things are worth remembering. First, Hit has a ceiling: once you reach the cap, extra Hit does nothing for you, so move on to Shadow Damage and Critical Strike. Second, Suppression already grants some Hit as a talent, so your gear needs less of it than a build without that talent would.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Best Gear
The best level 20 gear for Affliction comes from dungeons, quests and professions such as Tailoring. The table lists strong upgrades for Spell Power, Shadow Damage and other useful caster stats that are available during the Beta.
| Slot | Item | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Neck | Ephemeral Choker | Hall of Thanes |
| Wrists | Aetherwisp Bracers | Hall of Thanes |
| Weapon | Golemheart Stave | Hall of Thanes |
| Chest | Robes of the Disgraced Thane | Hall of Thanes |
| Cloak | Sporid Cape | Wailing Caverns |
| Ring | Deep Fathom Ring | Wailing Caverns |
| Ring | Slain Baron’s Signet | Quest: Unending Torment |
| Belt | Tuskwrap Belt | Ruins of Lordaeron |
| Legs | Rotmender’s Leggings | Ruins of Lordaeron |
| Feet | Rotmender’s Treads | Ruins of Lordaeron |
| Hands | Blight Gloves | Quest: The New Plague |
| Shoulders | Feline Mantle | Shadowfang Keep |
| Wand | Greater Magic Wand | Enchanting |
| Head | Filigreed Shadow Circlet | Tailoring |
Dungeon drops provide most of the strongest level 20 upgrades, and quest rewards can fill the gaps between runs. Hall of Thanes alone covers four slots, so it is the natural first stop. Tailoring and Enchanting also offer useful early options, especially the Shadow Damage head piece and the Greater Magic Wand. If you want to speed up the process, our pre-raid gear service is one option.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Pre-Raid and Raid BiS
Pre-raid BiS for Affliction will focus on Spell Power, Spell Hit, Shadow Damage and Critical Strike. The final level 60 list depends on the complete dungeon and raid loot pool becoming available, so there is no locked-in list yet. Keep alternative pieces when they give you stronger offensive stats for specific encounters.
Felheart Raiment is the Warlock Tier 1 set. It contains eight pieces, with bonuses at three, five and eight pieces. The 3-piece bonus increases the Health or Mana gained from Drain Life and Drain Mana by 15%. The 5-piece bonus gives your pet 15 Stamina and 100 spell resistance to all schools. The 8-piece bonus reduces the Mana cost of Shadow spells by 15%.
WoW Forever Best Affliction Warlock Weapons
The best weapons depend on your level and the caster stats you can get. At level 20, Golemheart Stave and Coldspire Staff are strong dungeon options, while Sable Wand and Greater Magic Wand are useful alternatives during leveling.
At level 60, prioritize weapons with Spell Power, Spell Hit, Shadow Damage and Critical Strike. A strong wand also matters, because it fills the gaps between spell casts, especially during leveling and early gearing.
Best WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Consumables
The best consumables increase Spell Power, Shadow Damage, Critical Strike and Mana. The table covers useful options for leveling and for level 60 PvE content.
| Type | Item | Main Use |
|---|---|---|
| Flask | Flask of Supreme Power | Increases Spell Power for raid progression |
| Spell Power Elixir | Greater Arcane Elixir | Increases damage from spells |
| Shadow Damage Elixir | Elixir of Shadow Power | Increases Shadow spell damage |
| Weapon Oil | Wizard Oil | Increases spell damage |
| Critical Strike Oil | Brilliant Wizard Oil | Adds Spell Power and Critical Strike |
| Food | Runn Tum Tuber Surprise | Increases maximum Mana and Spell Critical Strike |
| AoE Consumable | Oil of Immolation | Adds extra AoE damage when using Hellfire |
| AoE Explosive | Goblin Sapper Charge | Deals instant AoE damage at close range |
For most encounters, put Spell Power and Shadow Damage consumables first. Save the Flask and other expensive consumables for raid progression or difficult fights, and use cheaper options while leveling. If you do not feel like farming the money for all of this, you can pick up WoW Forever gold to cover the bill.
Best WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Enchants
The best enchants focus on Spell Power, Shadow Damage and useful caster stats. Put the strongest options on permanent gear and use cheaper ones while you level, since you will replace items often at that stage.
| Gear Slot | Enchant | Main Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Head / Legs | Arcanum of Focus | Increases spell damage |
| Shoulders | Zandalar Signet of Mojo | +18 Spell Power |
| Cloak | Enchant Cloak – Subtlety | Reduces threat |
| Chest | Enchant Chest – Greater Stats | Improves overall stats |
| Bracers | Enchant Bracer – Greater Intellect | Adds Intellect |
| Gloves | Enchant Gloves – Shadow Power | +20 Shadow Spell Damage |
| Boots | Enchant Boots – Minor Speed | Increases movement speed |
| Weapon | Enchant Weapon – Spell Power | +30 Spell Power |
The cloak enchant is the odd one out: it does not add damage, it lowers your threat, which fits the idea that a Warlock should keep the pet in front of the enemy. Everything else on the list pushes your Spell Power, Shadow Damage or Intellect.
Best WoW Forever Affliction Warlock Professions
Professions can give you extra caster gear, enchants, consumables and utility while leveling and at level 60. The best pairing depends on whether you want to improve your own gear or support your character with consumables.
| Professions | Best Use |
|---|---|
| Tailoring + Enchanting | Caster gear, Shadow Damage items and enchants |
| Engineering + Mining | Explosives, utility and crafting materials |
| Alchemy + Herbalism | Potions, elixirs and consumable supplies |
Tailoring and Enchanting work well together because you can craft caster gear and enchant it yourself, so you rely less on other players. Engineering adds extra utility, while Alchemy and Herbalism are useful for keeping your own consumable supply topped up. Good macros make targeting, pet abilities and utility easier to handle in combat. They do not automate your rotation, so use them to cut down on needless target switching and put important abilities within easy reach. Each macro below is written one command per line.
Shadow Bolt macro: this one starts auto-attacking when possible before casting the spell.
- #showtooltip Shadow Bolt
- /startattack
- /cast Shadow Bolt
Fear macro: this mouseover Fear macro lets you crowd-control an enemy without changing your current target.
- #showtooltip Fear
- /cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Fear
Spell Lock macro: this Felhunter macro casts Spell Lock on your focus target, so you can interrupt a secondary enemy while keeping your main target selected.
- #showtooltip Spell Lock
- /cast [@focus,harm,nodead][] Spell Lock
Death Coil macro: this mouseover Death Coil macro lets you use the ability quickly on a valid enemy without changing your main target.
- #showtooltip Death Coil
- /cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Death Coil
Healthstone macro: this one uses your Healthstone when pressed, giving you quick access to your main self-healing consumable.
- #showtooltip Healthstone
- /use Healthstone
The mouseover versions are the most useful in practice. With them you can fear or coil a second enemy that is hitting you without losing your DoT target.
WoW Forever Affliction Warlock PvP
Affliction is strong in PvP thanks to its DoTs, crowd control and self-healing. You can spread damage across several enemies while using Fear and your other abilities to keep them under control.
Fear is your main tool for stopping enemy players, and Curse of Exhaustion makes it harder for them to run away. Spell Lock from the Felhunter can interrupt enemy casters, and Death Coil gives you an instant Horror effect while restoring Health. Together these let you control a fight and heal yourself without leaving your DoTs behind.
Affliction Warlock PvP Talents
PvP talents should focus on stronger DoT damage, crowd control and survivability. Malediction, Pandemic and Malevolence improve your damage, while talents that strengthen Fear and defensive tools give you more control.
- Malediction for increased periodic damage.
- Pandemic to increase the critical strike damage of your main DoTs and drain spells.
- Malevolence for additional Shadow spell critical strike chance.
- Nightfall for extra Shadow Bolt procs during combat.
- Take defensive talents such as Demonic Aegis and Fel Vitality when you need more survivability.
Frequently Asked Questions
What race is the best for Affliction Warlock in WoW Forever?
Gnome, Undead and Orc are the strong choices for Affliction Warlock, and each offers useful racial abilities for PvE and PvP. Gnome is the Alliance pick for Intelligence and escaping movement-impairing effects, Undead offers crowd control utility and recovery after combat, and Orc brings an offensive cooldown and stun resistance.
Which demon is the best for Affliction Warlock?
It depends on what you need. The Voidwalker is the best choice when you need threat and survivability, while the Succubus or the Sayaad provides higher damage.
Is Affliction Warlock good in WoW Forever?
Yes. It is a strong ranged DPS specialization built around DoTs, Shadow damage, drain abilities and useful Warlock utility. It rewards patient play, since the damage builds as your effects stay on the target.
Is Affliction Warlock good for leveling in WoW Forever?
It is effective for leveling. DoTs, demon abilities, Fear and self-healing allow it to handle multiple enemies and sustain itself.
Should I use Drain Life as my main filler at level 20?
No. Your early Affliction talents do not improve it enough at that level, so apply your DoTs and fill with your Wand instead, which is more efficient. Drain Life becomes a proper filler later, and Wrack takes over once you unlock it.
What is the best talent build for Affliction Warlock?
At level 20 the recommended build is 12/0/0, at level 30 it is 21/0/0, and for level 60 the recommended setup is 36/8/8, all centred on Affliction. The Beta only goes to level 20, so the later builds may still change.
Which profession pair is best for Affliction Warlock?
Tailoring + Enchanting is the best pair for caster gear, Spell Power and enchants. Engineering + Mining and Alchemy + Herbalism are good alternatives if you care more about utility or about your own consumable supply.
