Ashes of Al'ar is the phoenix mount that very rarely drops from Kael'thas Sunstrider, the fourth and final boss of The Eye in Tempest Keep, Netherstorm. The recorded drop chance is near 1.70% per kill. Getting the mount awards the Ashes of Al'ar achievement as well. Two other routes exist: the Black Market Auction House and, in Timewalking weeks, the Black Temple raid cache.

Three routes to the mount
- Kael'thas kills: The Eye is a 25-player Burning Crusade raid with no attunement left. At roughly 1.70% a kill, a single run is a long shot, and a character can clear the raid once per weekly lockout.
- Black Market Auction House: Mei Francis can list the mount with an opening bid of 20,000 gold. Listings differ by realm, so it is there only when an auction is running.
- Timewalking raid cache: the Cache of Timewarped Treasures from the Black Temple Timewalking raid lists Ashes of Al'ar among its possible contents. That raid is open only in its Timewalking week.

- A flying mount of the phoenix family, bind on pickup.
- Its red trailing effect shows when you use Skyriding.

How many attempts does 1.70% mean?
On average about one drop in 59 kills. That is an average, not a schedule: a drop can come on the first kill or much later.
Can the drop be traded to me?
Yes, if you and the booster stand in one group when it drops. Eligible group members can receive a Bind on Pickup instance drop through a trade during the following two hours.
