Sentinel Echo Modifier: What Does It Mean?

In Last Epoch, a "Sentinel echo" is the echo mechanic of the Void Knight, one of the Sentinel's masteries. Some of your hits are repeated by a void echo about half a second after the original. Players use "echo modifier" for anything that changes this, such as passives that raise echo chance or skill nodes that make echoes hit harder. It should not be confused with the modifiers on Monolith of Fate echoes, which are a separate endgame system.

How Void Knight Echoes Work

The Void Knight mastery gives melee hits, throwing attacks and void spells a chance to be repeated by an echo half a second later. Movement skills and Anomaly are excluded. The official Last Epoch support pages list the base chance as 10%. The Sentinel class did receive a complete overhaul in patch 1.2 (Season 2, Tombs of the Erased, April 2025), and values can shift with each season, so check the current tooltip for exact numbers. Players on the official forums describe echoes as a Void Knight feature, not something the other Sentinel masteries get by default.

Because an echo repeats the hit, anything that makes your original hit stronger also makes its echo stronger. That is why Void Knight builds often favour slower, heavier attacks: one big hit plus a delayed copy adds up to a lot of damage on bosses.

Common Echo Modifiers

  • Echoing Strikes. A Void Knight passive that raises echo chance. Leveling guides written before the Sentinel overhaul noted that maxing it roughly doubled your chance to echo.
  • Avatar of Regret. Adds echo chance and armour, but lowers melee and throwing attack speed and raises skill mana costs.
  • Time Legion. A passive that combines attack speed with extra echo chance in build guides from the 1.x patches.
  • Skill nodes. Some skill trees reward echoes directly. The Echo Knight node lets Warpath create echoes if you have moved at least 4 metres in the last 2 seconds, and Rive has long been a popular echo skill because it gains extra damage when it hits with an echo.
  • Idols. Some idol affixes trigger when a skill echoes, such as increased void damage for 4 seconds, and current endgame guides also look for idols with increased echo damage.

Monolith Echo Modifiers Are Different

In the Monolith of Fate endgame, each map is called an Echo, and each Echo shows a map, a modifier and a reward. Modifiers make the Echo harder and persist for a set number of further Echoes: the number under the modifier icon shows how many, so a 3 means this Echo and the next two. Quest Echoes, including the timeline boss, count toward that number, so a modifier can carry into them. Separately, Corruption raises enemy health and damage along with experience and item rarity. We found no Monolith modifier tied to the Sentinel class.

Tips

  • Plan around one or two skills that echo well, then stack echo chance on the passive tree instead of spreading points thinly.
  • Weigh Avatar of Regret carefully. The extra echoes are strong, but the attack speed and mana penalties hurt fast-hitting builds.
  • Look at skill trees for nodes that care about echoes before adding generic damage nodes.
  • Remember that movement skills never echo, so do not invest echo chance for a movement-based playstyle.
  • Read the patch notes for each new season. Sentinel values have changed more than once.

FAQ

Can a Paladin or Forge Guard use echoes?

The echo mechanic comes from the Void Knight mastery, and players generally treat it as Void Knight-only. Check the passive tree tooltips if you are trying a hybrid setup.

Is there a "Sentinel" echo modifier in the Monolith?

We could not find one. Monolith modifiers affect enemies and rewards, not a specific class.

Where can I confirm the current numbers?

The in-game passive tooltips and the patch notes on the official Last Epoch site are the most reliable sources.
