What does it mean – Add Limit?
Add Limit refers to the maximum number of additional enemies (adds) that can spawn, be active, or be targeted at once during an encounter in World of Warcraft. This mechanic plays a significant role in raid and dungeon design, influencing mob control, AoE strategy, and performance optimization, especially in Mythic+, raids, and farming scenarios.
Add Limits can be:
- Encounter-specific, such as bosses only spawning a set number of adds at a time
- Server-limited, where the client or game engine restricts how many targets can be rendered or hit
- Mechanically enforced, like phased waves, soft enrage mechanics, or scripted summoning limits
Certain spells or AoE abilities have internal add limits (e.g., Chain Lightning may only jump to X targets), which can affect DPS throughput in large pulls. Similarly, over-pulling beyond the add limit in dungeons may waste cooldowns or reduce efficiency, making knowledge of this mechanic key to optimizing cleave damage and crowd control usage.
Want to dominate every pull and control every wave? Onlyfarms offers Dungeon Carries, Raid Boosts, and Powerleveling Services so you never get overwhelmed by add limits—or adds themselves.
