What does it mean – Auto-Kite?
Auto-Kite refers to a player-controlled or addon-assisted method in World of Warcraft where a character maintains distance from enemies while dealing damage, using tools or macros to simplify movement, especially useful for ranged classes like Hunters and Mages. Although WoW does not feature a native Auto-Kite function, players often simulate this by combining movement macros, slow effects, and targeting assists to maintain maximum uptime while staying mobile.
This technique is crucial in PvP, where kiting can be the difference between survival and a stun lock, and in PvE, particularly for ranged DPS avoiding cleaves, AoE zones, or chasing mobs. Skilled players incorporate Auto-Kite logic into their gameplay through mouseover targeting, strafing keybinds, and slowing abilities like Frost Nova or Concussive Shot.
Auto-Kite doesn’t fully automate movement (and cannot due to WoW’s input policies), but it describes a playstyle that emphasizes consistent spacing, damage uptime, and escape tactics. When paired with proper rotation timing and cooldown usage, it allows ranged players to control the battlefield effectively while minimizing damage taken.
