What does it mean – Auto-Pathing?
Auto-Pathing refers to a navigation feature in some games that allows characters to automatically move to a set destination, following a calculated route without constant player input. While World of Warcraft does not include native Auto-Pathing, the term is sometimes used by players in reference to addon-guided routes, waypoint systems, or movement macros that simulate pathing assistance—especially during leveling, questing, and collectible farming.
In WoW, Auto-Pathing is commonly associated with tools like TomTom, Zygor Guides, or Routes, which create visual paths on the map or minimap to lead players to objectives, gathering nodes, or optimal farming loops. These guides don’t move the character automatically (as that's against Blizzard’s terms), but they provide directional assistance that makes following a set route efficient and intuitive.
Auto-Pathing concepts are especially useful during powerleveling, mount runs, and collectible hunts, helping players avoid getting lost and stay on an optimized course through zones or dungeons. Efficient pathing is also key to maximizing uptime and minimizing travel delays.
