What does it mean – Auto-Target Switching?
Auto-Target Switching refers to a system or macro-based behavior in World of Warcraft where your character automatically switches to a new target when the current one dies or becomes invalid, ensuring continuous combat flow. This is especially valuable for AoE farming, dungeons, and PvP, where enemies die quickly and target uptime is essential.
By default, WoW doesn’t automatically switch targets upon kill, but players can implement this behavior using macros such as /targetenemy
or /assist
, or via addons that enhance targeting logic. This technique is popular with multi-dotting casters, cleave classes, and speed runners, as it eliminates downtime and helps maintain DPS uptime.
Auto-Target Switching is particularly effective in large pulls or trash packs, where players want to instantly begin attacking the next available enemy without manual input. It also reduces reaction delay when chasing enemy players in battlegrounds or when farming fast-respawning mobs for leveling or collectibles.
