AA (Anti-Air)

AA (Anti-Air) — a class of vehicles and emplacements in the Battlefield franchise designed to eliminate enemy aircraft.

Anti-air systems include stationary flak cannons, mobile AA tanks, and SAM (surface-to-air missile) launchers capable of locking onto jets, helicopters, and drones.

In Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, the Mobile Anti-Air Vehicle (e.g., LAV-AD or Tunguska) became infamous for its devastating range and radar lock capability. These vehicles can fire guided missiles and high-velocity shells that shred aircraft within seconds. However, they are lightly armored and extremely vulnerable to infantry and tanks when caught in open ground.

In Battlefield 2042, the AA role evolved — now handled by Ranger Call-ins, RAH-68 Huron, or specialist-controlled systems with smart missiles. Players can customize missile loadouts (Active Radar vs. Passive Lock-On) to counter different flying styles.

The term “AA camper” is common community slang, describing players who park near spawn zones and spam radar locks on pilots. Despite the criticism, effective anti-air control is crucial for balancing matches — especially in modes like Breakthrough and Conquest, where unchecked aircraft can dominate.

🧠 Trivia: During Battlefield 4’s early patches, “Active Radar Missiles” were so overpowered that entire servers banned their use. DICE later reworked their lock-on time and splash radius in Patch 1.3.
