Tier Skip in Call of Duty: What Does It Mean?
In the modern era of Call of Duty (Modern Warfare III, Warzone, and Black Ops 6), a Tier Skip is more accurately described as a Battle Token.
The game has moved away from the linear "Level 1 to 100" scrolling bar and now uses a tactical Battle Pass Map (divided into Sectors like A1, A2, etc.).
Here is a breakdown of how to use Tier Skips to manipulate this map and unlock the best items immediately.
What is a Tier Skip? (The Token System)
- The Currency: 1 Tier Skip = 1 Battle Token.
- The Cost: It takes 5 Tokens to complete one "Sector" on the map.
- 4 Tokens unlock the small items (emblems, charms, XP tokens).
- The 5th Token unlocks the HVT (High Value Target), which is usually the Operator Skin or Weapon Blueprint for that sector.
- The Math: To finish the entire Battle Pass (100 Tiers), you need 100 Tokens.
How to Acquire Them
You earn tokens slowly just by playing, but "Tier Skips" generally refer to the ones you get instantly without grinding.

Strategic Strategy: The "Beeline"
Since you are on a map, you do not have to unlock items in numerical order (1, 2, 3...). You can path strategically.
- Hunt the Weapons: Every season adds 2-3 new base weapons (e.g., a new AR and SMG). These are Free updates, but they are located in specific sectors (e.g., Sector A6 and A12).
- Save Your Skips: Do not spend tokens on random emblems near the start. Look at the map, find the Sector with the new OP weapon, and use your Tier Skips to unlock only the adjacent sectors leading directly to that gun.
- Unlock Early: By "beelining," you can unlock the new meta weapon on Day 1 of the season, while other players are still grinding through Sector A1.
The "Auto-Claim" Feature
- Manual: You choose exactly where to spend your tokens. This is recommended so you get what you want first.
- Auto: The game spends tokens for you in a logical order.
- End of Season: If you forget to spend your Tier Skips/Tokens before the season ends, the game will automatically spend them for you and unlock as many rewards as possible. You do not lose them, but you lose the choice of what to get.
Pro Tip: Tier Skips purchased with real money (via Bundles) often carry over to the next season if you do not use them. However, Tokens earned by playing usually do not carry over and are auto-spent at the end of the season. If you buy a bundle with "Tier Skips" late in a season, check if they are "bankable."
