Call of Duty Perks Glossary

Perks are passive bonuses you pick in Create-a-Class: faster hands, extra ammo, stealth against radar, warnings when someone is watching you. The names travel from game to game, but the effect, the slot and the unlock level change with every release, and some perks were renamed into gear or merged into other perks. This page explains the classic perks that players search for most and shows where each one stands in the games people play now.

Status on 1 November 2026: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (MW4) is the current premium game, out since 23 October 2026. Black Ops 7 (BO7, November 2025) and Black Ops 6 (BO6, October 2024) are still played. Warzone still runs its Black Ops 7 perk list; Activision has announced that MW4 integrates into Warzone with Season 1 on 6 November 2026, so the Warzone perk list may change then.

Levels are the player level at which the perk unlocks in multiplayer. In BO6 and BO7 every perk also has a colour (Enforcer, Recon or Strategist) that counts toward a Combat Specialty bonus when you run three perks of one colour.

Fast Hands

Fast Hands speeds up the moments when you are not shooting: swapping weapons, using equipment and, in some games, reloading. It was in the Nintendo DS version of Black Ops (2010) and became a Tier 2 staple in Black Ops II, where it cut weapon swap time in half, made equipment use 40% faster and reset the fuse of a thrown-back frag grenade to 2.5 seconds.

How it works now:

  • MW4: Perk 2, unlocks at level 20. Faster reloads, equipment use and weapon swaps.
  • Black Ops 7: Tier 2 Strategist perk, level 14. Faster reloads and weapon swaps, plus a longer fuse when you throw back a grenade. The reload part is the old Sleight of Hand effect folded in.
  • Black Ops 6: Tier 2 Strategist perk, level 38. Faster weapon swaps and the grenade throw-back fuse, but no reload bonus.
  • MW3 (2023): the perk became a glove, Commando Gloves (level 29), which lets you reload while sprinting and improves sprint-to-fire time.

Fast Hands is not part of the Warzone perk list in the Black Ops 7 seasons. It suits snipers who swap to a secondary often and players who throw a lot of tactical equipment. Do not expect the reload bonus in BO6; it only came back in BO7 and MW4.

High Alert

High Alert warns you when an enemy outside your view spots you: the edges of your screen pulse on the side the threat is coming from. It debuted in Modern Warfare (2019) as a Tier 2 perk, where it also triggered when an enemy Wheelson, IAV or Chopper Gunner targeted you, and returned in Vanguard and as an Ultimate perk in MW2 (2022).

  • MW4: Perk 1, level 8. Vision pulses when an enemy player outside your view spots you.
  • Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 multiplayer: not available.
  • Warzone: with BO6 Season One the perk was renamed Alertness. In BO7 seasons it sensed enemies within 30 metres and showed when you were being aimed at. In Season 2 Reloaded (March 2026) Alertness was replaced by Momentum in the perk list and its sensing effect was merged into the new Hunter perk.

The hard counter has stayed the same since 2019: High Alert does not fire for enemies running Cold-Blooded, and MW4 lists High Alert in Cold-Blooded's immunities.

Quick Fix

Quick Fix skips the delay before health regeneration. In Modern Warfare (2019), where it was a Tier 1 perk unlocked at level 42, a kill removed the regeneration delay and holding an objective doubled the regeneration rate. Before patch 1.14.0 the delay after a kill was only shortened to 3 seconds.

  • MW4: Perk 1, level 4. Health regeneration starts immediately when you kill a player with a weapon or interact with an objective.
  • Warzone (BO7 seasons): Tier 2 perk. Lets you insert armour plates one-handed and starts health regeneration as soon as you get a kill or insert a plate. In MW3-era Warzone it did not trigger inside the gas.
  • MW3 (2023): returned in Season 4 as the gear item Compression Plate, triggered by primary, secondary or throwing knife kills and objective captures.
  • Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 multiplayer: not available.

In Season 2 of BO7 Warzone (February 2026) Quick Fix was taken out of the default Enforcer loadout, replaced there by Sprinter, but it remains a pickable perk.

Restock

Restock is the perk that refills your lethal and tactical equipment on a timer. Under that exact name it existed only in Modern Warfare (2019) and the original Warzone (and later in Call of Duty: Mobile). It was a Tier 2 perk available from the start, recharging equipment over 30 seconds, cut to 25 seconds in patch 1.14.0. Warzone used a 30-second timer and 60 seconds for the Stim. It refilled one lethal or tactical at a time, and Stim Shots recharged twice as fast.

The idea survives under other names:

GameNameEffect
MW2 (2022)Resupply (Bonus perk)One extra lethal at spawn, equipment recharges over 25 seconds
MW3 (2023)Demolition VestLethal and tactical recharge every 25 seconds, one extra lethal
Black Ops 6Quartermaster (Tier 3)Equipment recharges over time
Black Ops 7GearheadTook over Quartermaster's effect after the beta
MW4Resupply (Perk 1, level 31)Equipment recharges, capacity +1, faster field upgrade charge

In Warzone, Resupply recharged equipment over 50 seconds until it was removed with BO6 Season One. A Restock-style timer does not raise your carry limit (MW4 Resupply is the exception with +1), so it rewards using equipment often rather than saving it.

Scavenger

Scavenger turns enemy bodies into ammo. Killed enemies drop a small pack; walk over it and your reserves are topped up, so you can keep your own weapon instead of picking up a stranger's. It has been in almost every Call of Duty since Modern Warfare 2 (2009).

  • MW4: Perk 3, level 28. Enemies drop an ammo cache on death; launcher ammo is not included.
  • Black Ops 7: Tier 2 Enforcer perk, level 6. Resupplies ammo and equipment from killed enemies.
  • Black Ops 6: Tier 1 Enforcer perk, level 26, same effect.
  • MW3 (2023): Scavenger Gloves (level 52), resupplying ammo and throwing knives.
  • Warzone (BO7 seasons): Tier 1 perk. Dead enemies drop a pack with extra ammo, equipment and plates.

The Warzone version once also gave cash. Season 2 of BO7 Warzone (February 2026) removed the cash from the bag because the perk had become mandatory, and it also took Scavenger out of the default Enforcer loadout in favour of Drill Instructor. Pair it with high fire rate weapons or with streak builds where dying to run out of ammo costs the most.

Tracker

Tracker shows fresh enemy footsteps on the ground, so you can follow a flanker or read where the other team is rotating. It was introduced in Black Ops III, and later versions added death markers and pings.

  • MW4: Perk 3, level 32. Enemies leave a footprint trail, their death markers are visible to you, and the markers of enemies you kill are hidden from their team.
  • Black Ops 7: Tier 3 Recon perk, level 32. Footsteps, automatic pings when you aim down sights, and after a kill the minimap points to the next closest enemy.
  • Black Ops 6: Tier 2 Recon perk, level 29. Footsteps and ADS auto-pings with a long cooldown.
  • MW3 (2023): gear item Backlight Flashlight (level 36), which shows recent enemy footsteps.
  • Warzone: in Season 2 Reloaded (March 2026) Tracker was replaced by Hunter, which keeps footprints and range-based outlines on enemies you shoot and also absorbs Alertness.

In BO6 and BO7 Warzone, Cold-Blooded listed immunity to Tracker footprints and marks.

Stealth perks: Ghost and Cold-Blooded

These two have their own pages, so here is the short version.

Ghost hides you from enemy UAVs and other radar; in several versions only while you keep moving. In MW4 it is Perk 1 (level 24) and also hides you from enemy callouts, portable radars and heartbeat sensors. In BO6 and BO7 it is a Tier 1 Recon perk that also covers planting, defusing and controlling scorestreaks. In Warzone it is a Tier 3 perk; Season 2 Reloaded raised the grace period before it switches off when you stop from 1.5 to 5 seconds. See Ghost perk explained.

Cold-Blooded keeps you off thermal optics and AI targeting. In MW4 it is Perk 3 (level 36) and also beats recon drones, spotter scopes, snapshot grenades and High Alert; in BO6 and BO7 it is a Tier 3 Recon perk. Warzone removed it in Season 2 of BO7 (February 2026) and put Surveyor in its place. Details in the Cold-Blooded perk guide.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming one perk works the same everywhere. Fast Hands reloads faster in BO7 and MW4 but not in BO6; Scavenger gives plates in Warzone but not in multiplayer.
  • Looking for perks in the wrong menu in MW3. That game moved most classics into vests, gloves, boots and gear, so Fast Hands is Commando Gloves and Restock is the Demolition Vest.
  • Copying old Warzone builds. Cold-Blooded, Tracker and Alertness are gone from the current Warzone list, and the list may change again with MW4 integration on 6 November 2026.

FAQ

What are the three perk slots in MW4?

MW4 gives you one perk from each of three slots. Perk 1 holds Quick Fix, Overkill, High Alert, Ghost, Resupply and Kill Chain; Perk 2 holds Hardline, Blood Rush, Bomb Squad, Fast Hands, Ninja and Birdseye; Perk 3 holds Lethal Reach, Combat Grid, Battle Hardened, Scavenger, Tracker and Cold-Blooded.

Is High Alert in Black Ops 7?

No. High Alert is not in Black Ops 6 or Black Ops 7 multiplayer. In Warzone it was called Alertness from BO6 Season One and was folded into the Hunter perk in Season 2 Reloaded (March 2026). It is back as a Perk 1 option in MW4.

What happened to the Restock perk?

The name Restock was used in Modern Warfare (2019) and the original Warzone. Its job, recharging equipment on a timer, now belongs to Resupply in MW4, Gearhead in Black Ops 7 and Quartermaster in Black Ops 6. In MW3 it was the Demolition Vest.

Does Cold-Blooded still work in Warzone?

No. Cold-Blooded was removed from the Warzone perk list in Season 2 of Black Ops 7 (February 2026) and replaced by Surveyor. It is still a perk in MW4, Black Ops 7 and Black Ops 6 multiplayer.

Will Warzone perks change in November 2026?

Possibly. Activision has announced full MW4 integration for Warzone with Season 1 on 6 November 2026, with detailed Warzone notes promised for 2 November. Check the perk list after that update before you rebuild a loadout.
