The Portal was the activity hub Bungie added with The Edge of Fate in July 2025. It brought Ops, which are adjustable versions of activities from across Destiny 2, each with a difficulty setting, optional modifiers and a reward preview. Update 9.7.0 retired the Portal screen and moved the Ops categories to the Destinations tab of the Director, but the activities stayed. This section collects the services built around those activities, from single mission runs to long sessions.
What you can buy here
- Portal-a-thon: 6, 8 or 12 hours a day, for 1 to 7 days
How Ops are grouped
Bungie's help center names several groups. Solo Ops are slices of destinations that one player can finish alone. Fireteam Ops suit three players and include strikes, Battlegrounds, Expeditions and Reclaims. Arena Ops are six-player activities from older seasons: Arena Ops, Astral Alignment and Nightmare Containment. Pinnacle Ops are the three-player endgame tier, with their own loot, and the exotic missions sit there. Crucible Ops and Gambit Ops hold the competitive activities.
Update 9.7.0 in June 2026 reshuffled the Director. The old Vanguard Ops playlist and the Nightfall nodes were deprecated, and their activities now sit in the Fireteam Ops hub on the Destinations screen. The Legends node was deprecated as well, and exotic missions launch from the Pinnacle Ops node.
Difficulty and rewards
Bungie describes six difficulty settings that unlock as Power grows, and optional modifiers raise or lower the reward score. As a rule of thumb, a higher difficulty brings better gear, more Power and more currencies. The Power cap is 550, and Monument of Triumph did not raise it.
Lot types in this section
- Exotic missions: Presage, Starcrossed, The Whisper, Kell's Fall, Encore and Heliostat, plus Fire and Ice, the Renegades mission behind the Praxic Blade. The lots count the number of runs.
- Ops runs: Reclaim, Onslaught, The Coil, Heist Battlegrounds and PsiOps Battlegrounds, each ordered as a number of runs with optional extras.
- Renegades activities: Lawless Frontier runs at Expert, Master or Grandmaster with a mode such as Bounty Hunt, Smuggle, Sabotage or Invasion, and the Territory War Begins quest, ordered whole or by step ranges.
- Weekly and timed services: Vanguard Alerts, Seasonal Conquest, and Portal-a-thon sessions of 6, 8 or 12 hours across one to seven days.
- Fireteam For Hire: hourly sessions with one or two hired Guardians in Ops, campaigns or the Crucible.
- Sparrow Racing League: races, wins and triumphs. Bungie made it a permanent part of Crucible Ops in Update 9.7.0.
Requirements
Most Ops are open to every player, but a few depend on ownership. Bungie notes that The Whisper is available to everyone, while Fire and Ice needs the Renegades campaign. Exotic missions are played in fireteams of up to three. The requirements of every lot are shown on its page.
FAQ
Is the Portal still part of Destiny 2?
Not as a screen. Update 9.7.0 retired the Portal tab and moved Ops to the Destinations tab of the Director. The activities that launched with it are still played, and Bungie's help center still calls them Portal Ops.
Does the exotic mission rotator still exist?
Not in the old form. Bungie's list of available exotic missions puts them all in Pinnacle Ops, and the Legends node that used to hold them was deprecated, so each mission is launched directly.
What can I set in a Portal-a-thon?
The session length, the Ops group (Solo, Fireteam, Pinnacle or Crucible), the modifier rank and the number of days, plus Self-play where the lot offers it.
Which exotic does Fire and Ice give?
The Praxic Blade, an exotic sword that came with Renegades.
