Root of Nightmares is the raid of the Lightfall year, released on 10 March 2023. Bungie's activity data places it in a location called Essence. The raid has four encounters, Cataclysm, Scission, Macrocosm and Nezarec, and six players can enter together. Entry requires the Lightfall expansion; Destiny 2: The Collection bundles it as well.
What you can buy here
- Root of Nightmares Seal (Dream Warrior): Dream Warrior title, Root of Nightmares
Loot
The exotic is Conditional Finality, a shotgun, and the raid also holds the Gift of Cruelty ship and the Dream Demon sparrow. Six legendary weapons come from it: Acasia's Dejection, a trace rifle; Nessa's Oblation, a shotgun; Briar's Contempt, a linear fusion rifle; Rufus's Fury, an auto rifle; Mykel's Reverence, a sidearm; and Koraxis's Distress, a grenade launcher. Each has an Adept edition. The Dream Warrior seal is the completion title. The Conditional Finality catalyst is sold as a separate lot among the exotics.
Lot types in this section
- Clears: a Root of Nightmares run, a Master run, a Flawless run and a Nezarec Kill lot for the final boss.
- Exotic: Conditional Finality, with a Weekly Rotation version, and the Gift of Cruelty ship.
- Weapon farms: one Farm lot per weapon plus an Adept lot for each, ordered per roll.
- Armor and triumphs: the raid armor set, the Dream Warrior seal and the Dream Demon Final Nightmare triumph.
Choices on the main lot
For Root of Nightmares the main lot can be a full raid, a final-boss run or a Flawless completion. The challenges to add are Cosmic Equilibrium, Crossfire, All Hands and Illuminated Torment, and the Master lot lets you tick each of those separately. Extras include two secret chests, the weekly puzzle chest and a Conditional Finality run. Twenty runs is the upper limit of one order.
Requirements
Lightfall must be on the account, because Bungie ties access to a specific raid to the expansion that contains it. The seal and triumph lots list the account progress they depend on, while the Master and Adept lots assume a character ready for Master.
FAQ
Which expansion is needed for Root of Nightmares?
Lightfall, which Destiny 2: The Collection also covers.
Does the raid have a Master version?
Yes. Bungie lists Standard and Master activities for it, and the Master lot in this section refers to that version.
Which weapons have Adept editions?
All six legendary weapons of the raid have one, from Acasia's Dejection to Koraxis's Distress.
Is the raid in the weekly rotation?
On some weeks. Bungie features two raids each week, and Root of Nightmares is one of the ten that take turns.
