Battlefield Slang, Vehicles & Gadgets Glossary
Four terms that show up in Battlefield squad chat: "need AA", "airburst", "we need an Angel" and "armor boi". Some are plain gear names, others are community shorthand that only makes sense for one game in the series. This page says which game each one belongs to, because Battlefield 6 (October 2025) returned to classes while Battlefield 2042 used named specialists.
State on 2 November 2026: Battlefield 6 launched on 10 October 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Season 5 started on 13 October 2026 with Las Vegas maps, Area 51 and the Rapid Royale mode. Gadget unlocks below are the Battlefield 6 ones unless another game is named.
| Term | Meaning | Where |
|---|---|---|
| AA | Anti-air: vehicles, guns and launchers against aircraft | Every Battlefield |
| Airburst | Grenade that bursts in the air past cover | BF4 XM25, BF6 SICH G1 WP |
| Angels | Players running the Angel specialist, or slang for supply | Battlefield 2042 |
| Armor Boi | A tank main | All, community slang |
AA (Anti-Air)
AA is anything built to shoot down aircraft. Players say "need AA" when jets or helicopters are not being challenged and ask a teammate to take a mobile AA vehicle, a fixed gun or an anti-air launcher.
- Battlefield 6 mobile AA: the Cheetah 1A2 (NATO) and the GE-26 PAX (Pax Armata), both modelled on the German Gepard. By default the autocannon fires in strict six-round bursts and the overheat mechanic is an optional upgrade. It does very little damage to infantry and tanks: about 64 to an infantry soldier even if every round of a burst lands, and with the AAAP shell only around 4 (front), 7 (side) or 8 (rear) to a main battle tank. It is an air-defense tool only.
- Launchers: the Engineer's standard anti-air launcher is the SLM-93A Spire, unlocked at rank 3. It needs a lock before launch, then self-guides unless countermeasures intercept it, and it locks faster and at longer range on targets marked by a Laser Designator or Tracer Dart. The 9K38 Igla is an Engineer lock-on anti-aircraft gadget, a Season 2 Recruit Battle Pass Tier 5 unlock. Its in-game description says you must keep tracking the aircraft in the sight to keep the missile guided, and missiles can reacquire targets mid-flight if tracking is lost or countermeasures are deployed.
- Battlefield 2042: the EBAA Wildcat carries Dual 30mm AA Cannons, with Dual 35mm AA Cannons as a later unlock.
Pilots beat locks with flares or by breaking line of sight, so fire a first missile to draw out the countermeasures, then follow up. For pilots, our beginner pilot guide covers the other side of the fight.
Airburst
An airburst round explodes in the air at a set distance, not on impact, so the blast and fragments reach enemies behind cover.
- Battlefield 4: the XM25 (Support gadget). You aim at a wall or window frame, the scope shows LOCK when the range is set and N/A when it is not, and a 3-metre offset is added so the grenade explodes just behind the surface. The airburst arming distance is 20 metres; inside it, or without a lock, grenades explode on impact for much less damage. It usually takes about three hits to kill an infantry target from full health behind cover. Configurations: Airburst, Smoke (airburst smoke) and Dart (works like a shotgun).
- Battlefield 2042: the XM25 returned as Zain's XM370 Airburst Launcher.
- Battlefield 6: the SICH G1 WP, also called the Incendiary Airburst Launcher. It is a Support gadget unlocked through the Support Specialist 2 assignment. Its in-game description says it fires incendiary grenades 25 metres that explode mid-flight into a burning cloud that burns targets, blocks vision and prevents spotting.
Use airburst to flush enemies out of cover and finish them with your primary weapon, not as a one-shot weapon. If you are the target, change position or break line of sight.
Angels
"Angels" is not an official mechanic. The only official Angel is Constantin "Angel" Anghel, a Support specialist in Battlefield 2042, so "we need an Angel" means "someone give us ammo". His kit:
- Resupply packs: thrown to the ground or directly at a teammate, each tops up 3 magazines; he carries up to three, with a short cooldown.
- Loadout Crate: a beacon calls in a Supply Drop. Any teammate can use the crate to resupply or change loadout, and it also works as cover.
- Trauma Specialist trait: revives any downed teammate, not only squadmates.
The wingsuit belongs to another specialist, Sundance (Emma Rosier): it replaces the parachute and lets her glide long distances. Her Scatter Grenade releases sub-munitions that spread further the higher they start, and she carries one grenade that regenerates roughly every 15 seconds. Battlefield 6 returned to the four-class system, so resupply now belongs to the Support class and there is no named Angel. Our classes guide explains the current roles.
Armor Boi
"Armor boi" (or "tank main") is joking slang for a player who spends the match in tanks and armored vehicles. It can be praise for someone who carries a push or a jab at someone who farms from a hill and ignores the objective.
- Battlefield 6 tanks: the M1A2 SEPv3 (NATO) and the Leo A4 (Pax Armata), each with a driver and a gunner. The M3A3 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle also appears in Battlefield 6.
- Counters: the Engineer is the anti-armor class. Its default gadgets are the MBT-LAW launcher and the M15 anti-tank mine; the RPG-7V2 unlocks at rank 13, the PTKM-1R top-attack mine at rank 27 and the MAS 148 Glaive at rank 47. Every Engineer also carries the HOFF-1500 repair tool by default, so a tank with an Engineer on board or nearby lasts much longer.
- Why the mobile AA cannot help: its AAAP shells do single-digit damage to a tank even when every round lands, so armor has to be answered by Engineers or other tanks.
If you run armor, pick the target-specific shell and play near the objective. Our vehicle loadouts guide lists setups.

FAQ
What does "need AA" mean in Battlefield chat?
A teammate wants someone to man an anti-air vehicle, a fixed gun or a launcher because enemy aircraft are going unchallenged.
Does Battlefield 6 have an airburst launcher?
Yes. The SICH G1 WP Incendiary Airburst Launcher is a Support gadget that bursts into a burning, vision-blocking cloud.
Is there an Angel in Battlefield 6?
No. Angel is a Battlefield 2042 specialist. Battlefield 6 uses classes, and resupply belongs to Support.
Can the mobile AA vehicle fight tanks?
Not well. Its autocannon deals very low damage, so it is an air-defense vehicle.
Which tanks are in Battlefield 6?
The M1A2 SEPv3 for NATO and the Leo A4 for Pax Armata.
