CS2 Ranks, Premier Rating & FACEIT Levels
Counter-Strike 2 does not have one rank. It has several systems running side by side, and players mix them up all the time: a number in Premier, a badge for each map in Competitive, a separate badge in Wingman, a profile level that only measures time played, and on top of that the levels of FACEIT, a third-party platform many players use for their ranked games. Knowing which is which tells you where your skill is actually measured and why one of them can be hidden while another is not.
This glossary explains each system in the order you meet them: Premier first, then Competitive and Wingman, then FACEIT and ESEA, and finally the account features that sit around ranked play (Prime Status, XP, the Weekly Care Package and the Armory Pass). Everything is checked against the game as it is in October 2026, during Premier Season Five.
| System | Where you see it | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| CS Rating | Premier, leaderboards | Your skill in Premier, as a number |
| Skill group | Competitive, one per map | Your skill on that map, Silver I to The Global Elite |
| Wingman skill group | Wingman (2v2) | Your skill in the 2v2 mode |
| FACEIT level and ELO | FACEIT client and profile | Your skill on FACEIT, levels 1 to 10 |
| Profile rank | Main menu profile card | XP earned by playing, not skill |
Premier mode and CS Rating
Premier mode
Premier is the main ranked mode of CS2: five against five on the Active Duty map pool, with the map chosen by both teams before the match through the Premier map pick. You can queue alone or with friends. To play it at all you need Prime Status and Profile Level 10, according to Steam Support.
A Premier match is played to 13 round wins out of 24 regulation rounds (see draws and overtime). Each team has three 30-second tactical timeouts in regulation. What Premier changes for you: it is the only mode that gives you a CS Rating and a place on the leaderboards.
CS Rating (CSR)
CS Rating, often shortened to CSR, is the visible number that measures your Premier results. It goes up when you win and down when you lose, and it decides your position on the world and regional leaderboards. Unlike Competitive, Premier gives you one rating for all maps, so a strong map and a weak map count the same.
The game also uses the rating for matchmaking: you are matched with and against players with similar ratings, and the gap inside your own party is limited (see party rating limits).
Premier season and season medal
Premier runs in seasons. Season Five began on 8 July 2026, together with a change to the map pool. Between two seasons Premier matchmaking pauses, and ratings are recalibrated for the next season, so every player has to win matches again to re-establish a visible rating.
The reward for a season is a Premier Season Medal for your inventory. The in-game season tooltip sets the requirements: an account in good standing, 25 Premier match wins and an active CS Rating when the season ends. The medal's color matches the highest rating you reached, and it shows one bar for every 25 wins, up to five bars. The season progress panel in the play menu counts your wins toward it.
Rating expiry after inactivity
A rating does not stay on display forever. If you stop playing Premier for a while, the game hides it with the message that your CS Rating has expired due to inactivity; before that, the season panel tells you how long it will remain active. Winning a Premier match brings the number back. An expired rating at the end of a season also means no season medal.
Leaderboards
Each Premier season has its own leaderboards. Steam Support lists nine of them: one for your Friends list, a World board with the top 1,000 players, and seven regional boards (Africa, Asia, Australia, China, Europe, North America and South America). Only Prime players who play Premier can appear, and only when they are in the top 1,000 of their region. You cannot choose your region: it is set by the location of the servers you play on most, which ties it to your server region. A leaderboard name you submit is checked by moderators and then locked for the rest of the season.
Party rating limits
Premier blocks parties whose ratings are too far apart, and a player with a very high rating cannot queue with someone who has no established rating yet. The game names one exception in its error message: a full team of five may queue even when the ratings are far apart. Valve has adjusted the allowed gap several times and does not publish it, so if your party is refused, the error text is the only reliable guide.
Competitive and Wingman ranks
Skill groups: Silver I to The Global Elite
Skill groups are the classic badges of Competitive matchmaking. There are 18 of them, from lowest to highest: Silver I, Silver II, Silver III, Silver IV, Silver Elite, Silver Elite Master, Gold Nova I, Gold Nova II, Gold Nova III, Gold Nova Master, Master Guardian I, Master Guardian II, Master Guardian Elite, Distinguished Master Guardian, Legendary Eagle, Legendary Eagle Master, Supreme Master First Class and The Global Elite. Every Prime account can hold one for each map it plays.
Competitive is still five against five and uses the same round count as Premier, but you choose which maps to queue for. Besides the Active Duty maps, the list includes Train, Vertigo, Overpass, community maps such as Boulder, Fachwerk and Shelter, and the hostage maps Office and Italy.
Per-map ranks
In CS2 a skill group belongs to one map, not to your account: you can be Gold Nova on Nuke and Legendary Eagle on Mirage. A map's badge appears only after you have won enough matches on that map. In January 2026 Valve adjusted the values behind these ranks and expired all existing per-map skill groups, so everyone had to earn them back with wins. Like the Premier rating, a skill group also expires after a period without play, and a win on that map shows it again.
Wingman skill group
Wingman is the two-against-two mode played on a single bombsite with shorter rounds, a 16-round maximum and a lower money cap. It has its own skill group, separate from Competitive, which can also expire or be recalibrating. In October 2026 the Wingman map list is Debris, El Dorado, Poseidon, Overpass, Vertigo, Nuke and Inferno.
Draws and overtime
Both Premier and Competitive use MR12: 12 rounds per half, 24 in regulation, and the first team to 13 wins, since the match ends as soon as one side can no longer be caught. The difference is what happens at 12 to 12:
- Competitive ends in a draw.
- Premier plays one overtime of six rounds, three on each side, and every player starts each overtime half with $10,000. If that overtime is also tied, the match ends as a draw.
Overtime money is explained with the rest of the economy in the economy glossary.
FACEIT and ESEA
FACEIT levels
FACEIT is a third-party platform with its own matchmaking, and its rank is the skill level from 1 to 10. Each level is a range of ELO points, as published by FACEIT support (updated 10 October 2026):
| Level | ELO | Level | ELO |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 100 to 500 | 6 | 1,201 to 1,350 |
| 2 | 501 to 750 | 7 | 1,351 to 1,530 |
| 3 | 751 to 900 | 8 | 1,531 to 1,750 |
| 4 | 901 to 1,050 | 9 | 1,751 to 2,000 |
| 5 | 1,051 to 1,200 | 10 | 2,001 and above |
Players below Level 10 see their level, ELO and a bar showing how close the next level is. At Level 10 the widget switches to your ranking in your country and region.
FACEIT ELO
ELO is the number behind the level. It changes after every FACEIT match, and the amount is not fixed: FACEIT says it depends on how likely your team was expected to win, so beating a stronger team pays more than beating a weaker one. New accounts start at 1,000 ELO, which is Level 4. A new player who has Prime Status and enough Premier wins gets a starting ELO converted from the CS Rating of their most recent Premier season instead.
Challenger
Challenger is the title above Level 10: the top 1,000 players at Level 10. Players in it see the ELO of the number one player and how far behind it they are, so the title moves as other players gain or lose points.
ESEA League
ESEA is the long-running online league now operated by FACEIT. It is a league for teams rather than a solo rank: a team registers for a season and plays in a division, from the Open divisions up through Intermediate, Main and Advanced. From Season 56, which began in early 2026, the upper divisions count toward Valve's regional team rankings and teams must register again each season.
Prime Status, XP and the Armory
Prime Status
CS2 is free to play, and Prime Status is the paid upgrade that turns a free account into a full one. Steam Support lists what it changes: Prime players are matched only with and against other Prime players in every mode; they earn XP, Competitive skill groups and a CS Rating; they can get the Weekly Care Package; and only they can play Premier. Free players can use every other mode but earn no XP and no ranks. A party that mixes Prime and free accounts is treated as non-Prime. Prime Status cannot be removed from an account once added.
Profile rank, XP and the Service Medal
The profile rank is the level on your profile card, from Recruit (rank 1) to Global General (rank 40). It measures XP, not skill: you earn XP by completing matches in any mode and by finishing the weekly mission. Each week starts with a bonus that speeds up your first XP, and after a set amount the gain is reduced until the weekly reset; players who use up their full weekly XP get the "XP Overload" mark next to their name. When you reach Global General, you can reset to rank 1 and earn or upgrade the Service Medal of the current year, which for 2026 became available on 1 January.
Weekly Care Package
The Weekly Care Package replaced the old random weekly drops. After you gain your next profile rank in a new week, the game offers a set of free rewards and you claim yours from it. The list changes over time and can include weapon cases (which still need a purchased key to open), weapon finishes, graffiti and newer items such as collection terminals. Rewards you do not claim before you earn the next package are lost.
Armory Pass and Armory Credits
The Armory Pass is a store item that turns XP into Armory Credits. After you activate a pass, you make progress toward the next credit whenever you earn XP, up to 40 credits per pass. Credits are spent in the Armory on items from its current collections: weapon finishes, stickers, charms and limited edition items. The collections rotate; in July 2026, for example, Spy Tech and Arabesque were added and two older weapon collections were removed. You can have only a limited number of passes active at once, and a finished pass has to be cleared before you start another.
FAQ
How do I get a Premier rating?
Add Prime Status, reach profile level 10, then play Premier until the game shows your CS Rating. At the start of each season the rating has to be re-established by winning matches.
Why is my rank hidden?
Ratings and skill groups expire after a period without play. Win a match in that mode, or on that map for Competitive, and the rank is shown again. In January 2026 every per-map skill group was expired at once and had to be earned back.
Does my Premier rating affect FACEIT?
Only at sign-up: an eligible new FACEIT player starts from ELO converted from the last Premier season. After that the two ratings move independently.
