Destiny: Rising Activities and Game Modes
Destiny: Rising packs many modes into its Activities menu, and most of them have names that mean nothing until you have played them: Gauntlet comes in two forms, Singularity has an Order and a Chaos version, and The Expanse splits into modes by weapon type. This glossary explains each activity: what you do in it, how many players it takes, how it unlocks where that is known, and what it is mainly played for. It helps new players plan their week and returning players catch up on what changed.
The facts come from the official news and weekly patch notes on the Destiny: Rising website. The current season is Season 6, Season of Revival, live since 17 September 2026, with its second part starting on 29 October 2026. Seasonal details, such as which stages have direct access, change often, so the date or patch is given next to them.

Story and open world
Main story chapters
The main story follows Wolf and the early Lightbearers in an alternate timeline set many years before Destiny 1 and 2. Its missions are grouped into numbered chapters written as episode and part, such as Chapter 5-1 or Chapter 8-1, and new chapters arrive with major seasons: Season 4 brought a full campaign about the Ahamkara Njorun.
Chapters matter beyond the story because they gate other content. The first Gauntlet Onslaught race in September 2025 required Chapter 5-1, and the Elivagar race in April 2026 required Chapter 8-1. Guides report that Shifting Gates opens with a tutorial in Chapter 1-2 and Shadowshaper Duels in Chapter 2-3. The story is also the main source of Team Level, and the patch of 29 October 2026 retuned the whole new-player stage. Example: "Finish 8-1 before the raid."
Legendary Campaign
The Legendary Campaign lets you replay the main campaign with tougher enemies and better rewards, and it has its own chest and medal challenges (the notes mention bronze medal challenges). Its difficulty tiers include Adept, and a limited Grandmaster difficulty has run as an event, for example from 12 to 26 March 2026, where you replayed the campaign solo against much stronger foes.
It has been adjusted often. The patch of 2 July 2026 lowered its difficulty and raised its rewards, the 3 September 2026 patch eased enemy health on Adept stages 1 to 3, and since 24 September 2026 it drops Vibro-Frequency Grains from Season Phase 1. Events such as Legendary Campaign+ in May 2026 add limited rewards on top. Example: "Run the Legendary Campaign on Adept for the weekly materials."
Destinations
Destinations are the open areas you explore between missions. Haven is the social space and refuge of the Lightbearers. Jiangshi Metro, an icy ancient metro, was the free-roam destination of the first test in 2024. Red Sea Rift, added in the May 2025 closed beta, has branching patrol zones, hidden areas and environmental puzzles; Season 4 unlocked a new area there. Season 4 also opened a new frontier, the Boneyard.
Destinations hold public events, patrol bosses, chests and collectibles. Activities there raise your Reputation, and the July 2026 patch improved the rewards from Max Level Reputation Chests. Limited events also use them, such as the hunt for 8 Skybound Igniters in the Jiangshi Metro wilderness in February 2026. Example: "Jiangshi Metro public events drop extra shards this week."
Daily Commissions
Daily Commissions are small tasks that refresh every day. They pay Reputation and have become one of the steadiest sources of basic currency.
Two 2026 patches made them more useful. From 2 April 2026 they pay Glimmer, Reputation and random weapons starting at Season Lv.1, and on 2 July 2026 their XP rewards were increased. Because they refresh with the daily reset, missed days do not stack up, so a few minutes every day pays more than a long session once a week. Example: "Commissions first, they pay Glimmer now."
Bounties
Bounties are a daily list of tasks that refresh with the daily reset. Among them are High-Value bounties, which pay more and which event tasks often ask for.
The developers name bounties as one of the intended sources of free Lumia Leaves. The 2 July 2026 patch increased XP from High-Value bounties, and events keep reusing them: in June 2026 completing High-Value bounties daily gave Tiger Talismans, in August 2026 they included new fishing bait, and the Bounties+ event of September 2026 made bounties and Jiangshi Metro public events drop extra Exotic Artifact Set Shards. Example: "Do the High-Value bounties, the event counts them."
Daily reset and weekly maintenance
The daily reset refreshes daily activities, bounties and other limited attempts. Since 6 November 2025, linked servers share one reset: NA with LATAM, and EMEA with APAC. The notice gave the times as 04:00 UTC-8 for NA, 09:00 UTC-3 for LATAM, 04:00 UTC+1 for EMEA and 11:00 UTC+8 for APAC, adjusted for daylight saving, so check the in-game refresh time after a clock change.
Weekly maintenance runs on Thursdays. The launch FAQ gave 2:00 to 5:00 AM PDT; recent notes start at 03:00 US Pacific time (UTC-7 in summer, UTC-8 in winter) and estimate about three hours, and recent ones have each compensated 200 Lumia Leaves. New content usually arrives with that maintenance. Example: "New draw goes live after Thursday maintenance."
Group PvE
Strikes (Haven Ops)
Strikes, listed under Haven Ops, are short co-op missions, one of the classic Destiny modes the game keeps. The developers present them as the mode to pick when you have a few minutes to spare. Named strikes include Nexus Interface and The Foundry in Red Sea Rift; Coliseum and Apadana had direct access until 9 April 2026 and are now reached through Random - Heroic matchmaking.
Difficulty goes up through Heroic, Master (added in the May 2025 closed beta as a pinnacle tier for Strikes and Gauntlet: Blitz) and Adept. In Season 6 Strikes have an extra job: together with Gauntlet: Blitz they drop the Light Ability Cards you need against Mutated Shields. Example: "Queue Random - Heroic for the strike wishlist rewards."
Gauntlet: Blitz
Gauntlet: Blitz is the shorter of the two Gauntlet Ops activities: single stages, each with its own map and mechanics. New stages arrive with seasons and start with limited-time direct access.
Season 2 added Assembly Plant, Overflow and The Walls Have Eyes, whose pinnacle rewards always dropped the new Mythic weapons during direct access. On 9 April 2026 direct access for Legion Vault, Incomplete Domain and Thundering Rails closed, moving them to Random - Heroic matchmaking. Blitz also has Master and Adept difficulties and, in Season 6, drops Light Ability Cards. Example: "Blitz Adept is the best place for Exotic cores this week."
Gauntlet: Onslaught
Gauntlet: Onslaught is the raid of Destiny: Rising: a six-player PvE activity in three stages, each built on its own core mechanic and ending in a boss fight. Eclipse and Elivagar each opened with a World First race, won by the first fireteam to clear all three stages.
- Eclipse: race from 19 September 2025, required Chapter 5-1 and a recommended Power of 55,100.
- Crota's End: the classic Destiny raid, recreated as a new Gauntlet Ops on 3 January 2026 with Normal and Challenge modes.
- Elivagar (World First Race: Great Hunt): from 4 April 2026 against the Ahamkara Njorun, required Chapter 8-1 and a recommended Power of 47,000.
Race events limit gear bonuses for fairness, and a Prestige Challenge mode exists for repeat clears. Example: "We need six for Elivagar tonight."
Singularity: Order and Chaos
Singularities are the stage runs inside Realm of the IX, one of the modes the game added to the Destiny formula. Runs use blessings, run buffs that patch notes rebalance from time to time. Singularity: Order stages are numbered with Roman numerals: Season 4 added Order X, Order XI and Order XII on 26 March 2026.
Singularity: Chaos is the harder version. Its Light requirement rises with each Season Phase (slightly lowered in April 2026), it has Adept 2, 3 and 4 difficulties, and it awards Strange Coins that buy Paraverse upgrades. An artifact Wishlist steers which artifacts drop. Example: "My Light is too low for Chaos this phase, back to Order XII."
The Expanse
The Expanse is a challenge mode of numbered stages (shown as floors on the stats page) that you push through one by one, with leaderboard rewards. Since Season 4 it has four modes by weapon type, and its challenge rewards refresh as the seasons progress. Patch notes name versions such as The Expanse: Endless and The Expanse: Impact.
Stages go far: the July 2026 patch improved rewards for Stage 60 and above, and the 30 July 2026 patch lowered the difficulty of The Expanse: Impact Stage 83. Each season sets a cycle modifier that gives enemies elemental shields, for example Void and Arc in Season 2, so the element of your characters matters. Example: "Pushed to stage 70 in Expanse with the Arc team."
Competitive and seasonal modes
Shifting Gates
Shifting Gates is the competitive mode built for Destiny: Rising, first shown in the 2024 closed alpha. It mixes PvE and PvP: according to guides, fireteams of three gather data by defeating enemies and bank it, while other players can fight them for it. Guides also report that it opens after the Chapter 1-2 tutorial.
The mode gets seasonal updates: Season 2 added random Emergencies that last a whole match and new enemies in a Vex Incursion theme. It has its own leaderboard and the Shifting Gates Exchange Shop, paid in Translation Credits. Example: "Bank the data before the other team catches you."
Calamity Ops
Calamity Ops is a challenge mode that runs in seasonal cycles and has its own server leaderboard. Each season sets a cycle modifier for it: in Season 3, enemies in The Expanse, Calamity Ops and Challenge Mode activities carried Arc and Solar shields, so Arc and Solar characters and weapons were recommended.
The developers name Calamity Ops together with bounties as intended sources of free Lumia Leaves. After the November 2025 server link, the first Season 2 cycle started on 6 November at 18:00 UTC-7. In December 2025 three Calamity Ops enemies, the Shinka Psion, Wizard and Servitor, were added to the Practice Range. Example: "New Calamity cycle, swap to Solar."
Mutated Shield
Mutated Shield is the new seasonal activity of Season 6. Mutated monsters appear with special abilities, upgraded power and a Mutated Shield that rotates daily between the Extreme Lightning Shield, the Void Erosion Shield and the Red Flare Shield; the developers say more forms will follow.
To break a shield you need the matching Light Ability, which you get from Light Ability Cards earned in Strikes and Gauntlet: Blitz. So the activity changes what you farm elsewhere: the right card matters more than raw Power. Example: "Today is Void Erosion, bring the Void card."
Adept difficulty
Adept is the endgame difficulty introduced with Season 4 and now available in Strikes, Gauntlet: Blitz, Legendary Campaign and Singularity: Chaos, where it comes in levels 2, 3 and 4. It is the main source of several scarce rewards.
Since 2 April 2026, Adept clears in these modes pay Lumia Leaves, Exotic Weapon Infusion Cores and Weapon Lumenite Choice Chests. Adept also has its own loot: Adept weapons and Adept Mods, which the June 2026 Adept Mod+ event made drop more often in Strikes, Gauntlet: Blitz and Gauntlet: Onslaught (Prestige Challenge). Example: "Adept Strike clears are worth it for the cores."
