Monster Hunter Wilds Gear, Crafting & Farming Terms

Once the story of Monster Hunter Wilds is over, most of the game is about gear: forging the right weapon, filling its slots with the right skills and upgrading armor until it survives the hardest hunts. Every step has its own currency, item or facility, and the names do not explain themselves. This glossary covers the economy and crafting terms of the live game after the free title updates of 2025 and 2026, and ends with a table of where the main materials come from.

Costs, points and bonus values are still adjusted in patches, so we quote a number only where it helps to understand a system and a current source confirms it. Combat terms are in the weapons and combat glossary; ranks, quest types and monster variants are in the ranks, quests and monster variants glossary.

Zenny

Zenny (shown as z) is the money of Monster Hunter. You earn it as a quest reward alongside materials, and you spend most of it at the Smithy: forging, upgrading, reinforcing and transcending all have a Zenny price on top of the materials. Two examples from current sources: forging a rarity 6 Artian weapon costs 2,000z, and transcending one piece of armor costs 8,000z.

The endgame upgrade loops spend Zenny steadily, which makes the Smithy the game's main money sink.

Guild Points

Guild Points are a second currency, separate from Zenny. Activities such as fishing award them, and Capcom has rebalanced the Guild Points paid for certain fish. The best-known use is saving a Field Survey as an Investigation, which costs Guild Points.

Lucky Voucher

A Lucky Voucher is a ticket from the daily login bonus. You get one per day (two per day during some seasonal events) and can hold five at most; a voucher that arrives while you are full is lost.

You decide to use one when you post a quest, and players who join get a short prompt to use theirs. If the quest succeeds, you receive additional rewards; if you fail or return from the quest, the voucher is spent for nothing. Title Update 4 added an optional reminder at the start of a quest, which you can switch off in the Quest Counter settings. Guides recommend saving vouchers for high-value hunts, such as Tempered monsters that drop Artian parts or quests you run for decorations.

Armor Spheres and armor upgrades

Armor gets its defense from upgrades, and the upgrade material is the Armor Sphere. Spheres come in several grades (Armor Sphere, Armor Sphere+, Advanced, Hard and Heavy), and the Heavy Armor Sphere is worth the most. Since Title Update 2 the Smithy can pick spheres for you automatically and turns leftover points into spheres.

Spheres come from limited bounties, the daily login bonus, some event quests and the Smelting Foundry. The upgrade limit for armor of rarity 5 and above was raised twice in 2025, and Transcending (below) raises it again.

Transcending (armor)

Transcending, added in Title Update 4, is an extra upgrade step for armor of rarity 5 and above, done at the Smithy. It raises the armor's level cap so you can spend more Armor Spheres on it, and on lower-rarity armor it can also add decoration slots or raise their level. Low Rank armor cannot be transcended.

The cost is Zenny plus materials, including Hunter Symbol III, which drops from the strongest Tempered monsters, and gems of the monster the armor comes from. That turns Transcending into a reason to keep hunting monsters you already have a full set from.

Weapon, armor, set bonus and group skills

A build in Wilds is a collection of skills, and the game sorts them into five kinds:

  • Weapon skills: come only from weapons (which now have skills built in), weapon decorations and appraised talismans. Most attack-related skills are here.
  • Armor skills: come from armor, armor decorations and talismans; mostly defensive and utility effects.
  • Set bonus skills: activate when you wear several pieces of one monster's armor. Examples include Doshaguma's Might and Jin Dahaad's Revolt.
  • Group skills: also need several armor pieces, but the pieces can come from different sets that share the group.
  • Food skills: short-term effects from meals.

The split is new in Wilds and changes how builds work: an attack skill jewel cannot go into an armor slot, and a defensive one cannot go into a weapon. Gogma Artian weapons blur the line a little by carrying set bonus and group skills on the weapon itself.

Decorations and slots

Decorations are jewels you place into slots on your gear to add skill levels. Each piece of equipment has up to three slots, and each slot has a level from 1 to 3. A decoration fits any slot of its level or higher, so a level 1 jewel can sit in a level 3 slot, but not the other way round.

Wilds splits them into weapon decorations and armor decorations, matching the skill split above. You get them in two ways:

  • Orbs: quest rewards that turn into a random decoration when appraised. Tempered and higher-star quests give better orbs, and level 3 decorations only come from the top grade, Ancient Orbs.
  • Melding: the Melding Pot can make specific level 1 and level 2 decorations from points.

Because level 3 jewels are random, "deco farming" usually means running high-reward Tempered hunts and opening every orb.

Melding Pot

The Melding Pot is a facility in Suja, run by the Wyverian Vio, that recycles items you do not need into things you do. Its menus have grown with the updates:

  • Decorations: turn unwanted jewels into random new ones, or buy specific level 1 and 2 jewels with melding points.
  • Relics: turn spare Artian parts into random weapon shards of a chosen rarity, or into a chosen type of rarity 8 part with random properties.
  • Talismans: since version 1.021, turn unwanted appraised talismans into new appraisal items.
  • Gogma materials: added in version 1.041 (February 2026).

Melding also accepts items such as Wyverian Bloodstones, which you get by breaking the wounds of Tempered monsters.

Talismans, Glowing Stones and Timeworn Charms

A talisman (the game names them "charms") is an accessory that adds skills; you can wear one at a time. There are two kinds:

  • Forged talismans, made at the Smithy. Each gives one armor skill and can be upgraded level by level.
  • Appraised talismans, which come out of appraisal items. Their skills and slots are random and can include weapon skills, armor skills and decoration slots, but they cannot be upgraded.

The appraisal items are the Glowing Stone, a reward from 9-star quests since August 2025, and the Timeworn Charm, added to quest rewards in version 1.041 and given by the 10-star Arch-tempered hunts. Capcom says Timeworn Charms raise the chance of high-rarity talismans without changing which attributes can roll. Hunting for one perfect random talisman is a long grind, and talisman melding lets you recycle the misses.

Artian weapons

Artian weapons are weapons you assemble yourself at the Smithy instead of following a monster's upgrade tree. You combine three Artian parts of the same rarity (6, 7 or 8); the parts come from Tempered monsters as weapon shards that are appraised automatically. There are four part types (blade, tube, disc and device), and each weapon type needs its own combination.

Every part carries an element or status and a small Artian bonus to attack or affinity. The weapon takes the element shared by most of its parts: two matching parts give that element, three matching parts give a stronger element infusion, and three different elements give a weapon with none.

After forging you can reinforce the weapon up to five times. Each reinforcement costs Zenny and ore points and adds a random bonus to attack, affinity, element or sharpness (ammo capacity for bowguns). If you do not like the result, dismantling the weapon returns the ore spent on completed reinforcements, but not the parts or the Zenny.

Gogma Artian weapons

Gogma Artian weapons were added with Title Update 4 as an endgame upgrade for Artian weapons. To make one you need a rarity 8 Artian weapon and materials from Gogmazios, the Elder Dragon that also arrived in that update.

During the Gogmazios fight you knock embedded masses called Mutated Armaments off its body; if you slay it, they are appraised into Tarred materials with an Attack, Affinity or Element focus. Upgrading an Artian weapon with them sets its focus, adds a set bonus skill and a group skill, and unlocks stronger reinforcement bonus tiers. Skills and bonuses can be rerolled at the Smithy, and the 10-star Arch-tempered hunts reward Battle-tempered Emblems for reinforcing these weapons, so the current endgame keeps sending players back to Gogmazios and the Arch-tempered fights.

Smelting Foundry and ores

The Smelting Foundry in Azuz converts monster materials into resources. Its main product is the ore used to reinforce Artian weapons: Drearisite, Specklite, Argecite and Oricalcite, each worth more reinforcement points than the last. It also produces Armor Spheres, and Title Update 4 raised the smelting points that certain monster materials give.

The foundry gives a use to materials from monsters you no longer craft from. Dismantling Artian weapons is the other source of reinforcement ore.

Carves, captures and rewards

Every hunt ends with a reward screen, and how you finish the monster changes what is on it. If you slay the monster you can carve its body for materials. If you capture it, by trapping it with a Shock or Pitfall Trap and hitting it with two tranquilizer items once it is weak, you get the same rewards, with the carves replaced by extra target rewards. A skull icon next to the monster on the map tells you it is weak enough. Some quests require a slay and do not allow a capture.

Extra materials come from the fight itself. Destroying a wound can give materials, a severed tail can be carved separately, and on Gogmazios every Gogma-covered part you knock loose adds Mutated Armaments to the rewards. Rare materials such as Wyvern Gems can also appear among the bonus rewards of Investigations.

Limited bounties

Limited bounties are side goals that are always active, so you never have to accept them. You check them at the Support Desk or in the Info tab of the menu. They normally refresh every week (daily during some festivals) and ask for things like three quests in one locale, a specific monster or a hunt of a given difficulty. Completing the set pays out Armor Spheres up to the Heavy grade, melding tickets and Oricalcite, which makes bounties one of the steadiest sources of upgrade materials. Arena quests have their own weekly bounties.

Layered equipment

Layered armor and layered weapons change how your gear looks without changing its stats, the Monster Hunter version of transmog. Title Update 2 added layered weapons for hunters and Palicoes and the β versions of hunter armor sets, Title Update 3 let you save appearance sets with your equipment loadouts, and Title Update 4 added a filter for α and β layered sets. The Greek letters mark versions of an armor set; the γ (gamma) sets come from Arch-tempered hunts.

Farming: where the main materials come from

Farming means repeating a hunt or activity for a specific reward. In Wilds the usual tools are Investigations, permanent event quests and the Smelting Foundry. The table below lists the main endgame materials and their sources in the live game.
