NBA 2K27 Modes, REP & Seasons Glossary

NBA 2K27 is several games in one menu. MyCAREER and The City revolve around your own MyPLAYER, MyTEAM is a card collecting mode built from real NBA and WNBA players, and both are tied together by a shared Season track. On top of that sit progress systems with their own names: REP, Season levels, Daily and Lifetime Challenges. New players often mix them up, for example expecting a Season level to raise their REP. This glossary separates them and explains where each one shows up.

The page reflects the game as of November 2026. NBA 2K27 launched on 4 September 2026, Season 1 began with early access on 26 August, and Season 2 started on 16 October. 2K's Seasons page lists Season 3 from 27 November 2026, so some event names and reward lists below will rotate soon. MyCAREER

MyCAREER is the mode where you create a MyPLAYER and follow its career. In NBA 2K27 the story is called Fire & Concrete: 11 chapters that take your player from high school through the G League to the NBA, with a Rucker Park court in Harlem that also appears in The City. A computer-controlled Running Mate, Trace Miller, plays alongside you and can be upgraded with points earned in games.

After the story, MyCAREER keeps going as a normal NBA career. From your second season, eight sets of six Key Games unlock, and winning them earns stars on a 40-level MyCAREER reward track; Eras Moments, objectives tied to past eras, feed the same track. In co-op each partner earns the full amount of VC and Season XP. When players say "I'm doing MyCAREER games for VC", they mean NBA games in the career itself rather than City games, which also pay VC.

The City

The City is the online world your MyPLAYER walks around in, with courts, shops and event venues. NBA 2K27's City is the first co-ed City in the series, and all its modes are open to male and female MyPLAYERs. Modes include Casual Corner, The REC, The Theater, Park, Street Kings, Proving Grounds, Ante-Up, Starting 5 and Crew HQ.

A few smaller terms come from here. Casual Corner is the starting hub for newer players, matched by an Overall Performance rating and marked by six plate colors from Black to Red. The Theater moved outdoors to its own city block; guides describe four rooms whose settings change each Friday. Crew HQ is the home of player crews, with ranked Crew games in six tiers from Bronze to Top Ranked. Street Kings is 3v3 against CPU bosses on three courts, including Rucker Park. Most City games pay REP and Season XP.

The REC

The REC is five-on-five with your MyPLAYER, usually queued with friends or with random teammates, each player controlling one position. It is the closest thing in The City to organized team basketball, and it is where builds are judged by how well they fit a lineup rather than by highlight plays.

In NBA 2K27 each REC run is played in one of five randomly chosen settings: a High School Gym, an Outdoor Court, a Private Gym, a Crowded Arena or a venue themed on the current Season. The REC is a common target for 2XREP events, which double the REP for every game; one ran from 18 to 20 September in Season 1. A typical lobby message is "need a 7-footer for Rec, rest of the squad is set", which means the group has four players and wants a center.

Park

Park means the outdoor courts of The City, where you walk up to a court and play pickup games, usually three-on-three to 21. Since the City redesign, the Park itself changes each Season: NBA 2K27 rotates four new locations plus HD remasters of Sunset Beach, Old Town Park and Rivet City, and Season 1 opened at Lion & Vine Park.

Park is where players show off builds and moves, and many REP and Lifetime Challenges count Park wins; the Park section of the Lifetime list alone has 56 challenges. Do not confuse it with Triple Threat Park in MyTEAM, which uses cards instead of your MyPLAYER (see Triple Threat). The Onlyfarms NBA 2K27 Wins Boost lists Park Mode with 2v2 and 3v3 options alongside Play Now Online, Ante Up and Proving Grounds. When someone writes "running Park, need a stretch", they want a shooter to space the floor.

Proving Grounds

Proving Grounds is the ranked mode of The City. You play one-on-one, two-on-two or three-on-three, and each format keeps its own ranking, so a strong 1v1 record does not lift your 3v3 rank. Guides describe ranks that update daily and can move down as well as up, with better rewards at higher tiers.

Because it is ranked, squads often pick builds for the format, for example a guard and a big for 2v2. It also feeds REP. Guides that rank City modes by REP per hour usually put The REC, Crew games and Ante-Up ahead of Proving Grounds, and Casual Corner and The Theater behind it. A queue message like "PG 2s, need a big" means a Proving Grounds 2v2 run looking for a center.

Ante-Up

Ante-Up is the City mode where players put something on the line before a game. In earlier editions that stake was VC, with the winner taking the pot. NBA 2K27 moved Ante-Up to a rooftop court above the clouds with an open edge and a view of the skyline, and it is one of the modes counted in 2XREP events.

2K has not published this year's stake rules in detail on its feature pages, so check the court entry screen before you play: the amount and format are shown there. In guide lists of REP sources Ante-Up sits near the top, behind The REC and Crew games. "Running Ante-Up" in chat means queuing on that rooftop court, usually with a set squad.

Play Now Online

Play Now Online is head-to-head basketball with real NBA teams against another person, outside The City and MyTEAM. You pick a team rather than your MyPLAYER, so it is the purest test of controller skill in the game. Offline Play Now, MyNBA and The W work without an internet connection; Play Now Online, as the name says, does not.

Teams are sorted into tiers by strength, and the Onlyfarms Wins Boost, for example, offers Play Now Online wins with a Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3 team. How many points a win is worth is shown in the mode's own menu. Players shorten it to "PNO".

REP

REP is your reputation level for MyCAREER and The City. Every online City game earns it, with wins and good games paying more. NBA 2K27 has 40 REP tiers at launch.

The 40 tiers are grouped in five ranks of eight: Rookie, Starter, Veteran, Elite and Legend, each with sub-levels written in Roman numerals in the game, from Rookie I to Legend VIII. 2K's official REP Challenge rules confirm the top: between 25 August 2026 and 31 July 2027, the first 100 players to reach Legend VI in each platform group (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 together, and Steam) win a copy of NBA 2K28, and the first player to reach Legend VIII on Switch 2, on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, and on Steam wins a likeness scan for NBA 2K28. REP rewards include Badge Tokens, Badge Slots, Cap Breakers, badge loadouts and VC. MyTEAM has a separate REP ladder. The Onlyfarms NBA 2K27 Reputation Boost is sold by current and desired rank, starting at Rookie 1.

Seasons and Season levels

A Season is a period of six to seven weeks with its own theme, events and reward track. The track has 40 free levels that you climb by earning Season XP in The City, MyCAREER and MyTEAM; progress is shared between City and MyTEAM, and both progress and rewards reset when the Season ends. The Pro Pass and the Hall of Fame Pass are paid add-ons that each add 40 more levels.

Dates so far: Season 1 began on 26 August 2026, Season 2 on 16 October, and 2K's Seasons page lists Season 3 from 27 November 2026 to 15 January 2027. In Season 2, for example, the Hall of Fame Pass adds a 15 percent XP boost, 15,000 VC and 10 level skips. "Level 40" in chat means the end of the free track, where the top City and MyTEAM rewards sit. The Onlyfarms NBA 2K27 Seasonal Leveling is sold per Season level.

Daily Challenges

Daily Challenges are short tasks that reset every day, such as winning a game in a given mode or reaching a stat target. MyCAREER and MyTEAM each have their own. Guides report that at launch completing three of four MyTEAM daily objectives paid 5,000 MT, and that logging in and finishing the MyCAREER daily set pays VC.

Dailies also feed the long game. The Lifetime Challenges list has a Daily Challenges section of 14 goals that count completed dailies from 10 up to 500, plus full-day sweeps, and guides count 38 lifetime goals that reward daily habits in total, together with Daily Login and Daily Pick 'Em. The Onlyfarms Daily Challenges Boost is ordered by number of days, from 1 to 30.

Lifetime Challenges

Lifetime Challenges are long-term goals that follow your account across The City, MyCOURT, the Gatorade Training Facility and the online modes for the whole life of NBA 2K27. Unlike Seasons and REP, they never reset, and progress counts across every MyPLAYER on the account.

Guides count 600 challenges in 19 sections; the largest are Crews (65), Rec (61) and Park (56). A 21-step reward ladder runs from 10 completed challenges to 600, with Cap Breakers at 200 and 400, GOAT builds at 300 and 350, 500,000 VC at 500 and 5,000,000 VC at 600. Progress does not carry over to the next NBA 2K edition. "I'm at 380 lifetimes" means the player has 20 to go for the second Cap Breaker. Onlyfarms also offers a Lifetime Challenges Hourly Boost sold by the hour.

MyTEAM

MyTEAM is the mode where you collect Player Cards of NBA and WNBA players, past and present, and build a lineup to play single-player and online modes. It uses its own currency, MT, alongside VC. Cards come in rarity tiers named after gems and materials, such as Amethyst, Diamond, Galaxy Opal and Dark Matter.

New for NBA 2K27: a Player XP system lets every card level up through play, unlocking attribute boosts, an extra badge slot or an extra turbo meter, and the Exchange now accepts any Player Card in your collection, except Free Agent cards, for rewards. Many modes rotate as Limited Time Modes, available from one weekend to a full Season. A mode's completion reward is the card you get for reaching its final win total, often called a Season completion card; Onlyfarms lists targets such as 5 Showdown wins or 35 Triple Threat Offline wins in its Season Completion Cards Boost.

Domination

Domination is the single-player MyTEAM mode where your lineup plays a set of games against CPU teams built from real rosters. NBA 2K27 launched with two sets: a 33-game set against NBA lineups and an 18-game set against WNBA lineups. 2K says set lengths can now vary during the year instead of always being 33 games.

Domination is a steady source of MT and reward cards; guides list a Galaxy Opal OG Anunoby as a Season 1 NBA Domination reward. Because it is against the CPU, players use it to try new cards, and guides suggest activating a 2XP coin before a long Domination session. Onlyfarms splits its MyTeam Domination Boost into NBA groups named after the six NBA divisions (Pacific, Northwest, Southwest, Central, Southeast, Atlantic) and WNBA Groups 1 to 3, each with an extra three wins option. "Domination done, waiting for the next set" means the player has cleared every available game.

Triple Threat

Triple Threat is MyTEAM's three-on-three mode, played with three cards instead of a full lineup, which lets players field strong teams sooner than in five-on-five. It comes in several versions. Triple Threat Offline is against the CPU. Triple Threat Online is against other players; in NBA 2K27 it stays open for a whole season at a time, starting with Season 1, with a ladder of rewards, and its completion reward card can be used in the Exchange.

Triple Threat Park takes place at night at Skyline Park, with 2v2 and 3v3 co-op runs and head-to-head team matches, and features both NBA and WNBA stars. It shares one lineup of priority cards with All-Star Team-Up. Season completion targets for these modes are counted in wins; Onlyfarms lists 35 Offline wins, 35 Online wins and 30 Park wins as separate goals. Players say "TTO" for Triple Threat Online and "TTP" for Triple Threat Park.

Clutch Time and Showdown

Clutch Time is a MyTEAM mode with its own rule set. Clutch Time Online returned in NBA 2K27 with a four-point line and a 14-second shot clock, as part of the rotating Limited Time Modes, so it is available in windows rather than all year. Onlyfarms lists 25 Clutch Time Online wins as one of its Season completion goals.

Showdown is the high-stakes online mode of MyTEAM. 2K's description for NBA 2K27: players who reach Tier 1 must go undefeated to claim the Showdown Championship, and a win adds a title to their MyTEAM Arena. The Season completion goal on our list is 5 Showdown wins, far fewer than the 25 to 35 wins listed for the other modes. Do not confuse it with Salary Cap Online, a separate Limited Time Mode.

What are the REP ranks in NBA 2K27?

There are 40 REP tiers in five ranks of eight: Rookie, Starter, Veteran, Elite and Legend, from Rookie I to Legend VIII. The top tiers are the target of 2K's official REP Challenge.

When does NBA 2K27 Season 3 start?

2K's Seasons page lists Season 3 from 27 November 2026 to 15 January 2027. Season 2 rewards and progress reset when it ends.

Is REP the same as Season level?

No. REP is a 40-tier rank for The City that lasts for the edition, while the Season track has 40 levels that reset every Season. Most City games raise both at once.

Do Lifetime Challenges reset each Season?

No. They are cumulative for the whole account and every MyPLAYER on it, and the 5,000,000 VC reward sits at 600 completed challenges.
