Enfeeble in Path of Exile 2: What Does It Mean?

Enfeeble is an Intelligence curse skill gem in Path of Exile 2 that makes every enemy in a small area deal less damage for a few seconds. In plain terms it is a defensive debuff: you drop it on a pack or a boss, and after a short delay the cursed targets hit you noticeably softer.

How It Works

Enfeeble is a spell with the Curse, Area and Duration tags. You aim at a spot, a marker appears on the ground, and after a delay of about 1.5 seconds every enemy inside the circle is cursed. The Path of Exile 2 version does one job only: cursed enemies deal less damage. Older guides that say Enfeeble lowers enemy accuracy or critical chance describe the curse from the first Path of Exile, not this one.

Skill data published on PoE2DB shows how the gem scales as you level it:

  • Damage reduction: cursed enemies deal 20% less damage at gem level 1, rising to 29% less at gem level 20.
  • Radius: grows from 1.5 metres at level 1 to 3.1 metres at level 20.
  • Duration: about 6 seconds at level 1 and about 7.4 seconds at level 20.
  • Cast time: 0.7 seconds, and the spell can be cast while moving at reduced speed.
  • Mana cost: climbs with level, from 41 mana at level 1 to 178 at level 20, so it gets expensive on low-mana builds.
  • Quality: adds increased curse magnitude and reduced mana cost.

The curse has been reworked during early access. In patch 0.3.0 Grinding Gear Games removed the separate, weaker values that Enfeeble used to have against unique monsters and gave it a single less-damage value. Patch 0.4.0 slowed how fast the radius grows on gems above level 20. Bear in mind that bosses and other tough monsters often carry modifiers that reduce the effect of curses on them, so the figure on the gem is the best case rather than what you get on every target.

Where You'll See It

  • Skill gems: Enfeeble is cut from an Uncut Skill Gem (it is listed as a tier 3 gem) and socketed like any other active skill.
  • Blasphemy: this meta gem turns socketed curses into auras that hit all nearby enemies. It reserves Spirit for each curse (60 per curse in current data) and lowers the curse's magnitude, so an aura Enfeeble is weaker than a hand-cast one but never falls off.
  • Uniques: Rondel de Ezo, a unique buckler, curses enemies with Enfeeble when you block, which suits shield and block builds.
  • Hexblast: this skill detonates curses on enemies for chaos damage, but only once at least half of the curse's duration has passed. Any curse you apply, Enfeeble included, can be detonated this way.

Tips

  • Cast ahead of the big hit. Because of the delay before the curse lands, put Enfeeble on a boss before its heavy attack starts, not in response to it.
  • Keep the gem levelled. According to PoE2DB, a level 1 Enfeeble does not affect enemies above level 20, and that cap rises as the gem levels up, so an under-levelled gem can fail to curse higher-level enemies. Each level also adds damage reduction, radius and duration.
  • Use curse supports. Supports listed as compatible include Heightened Curse and Focused Curse for a stronger effect, Impending Doom, Prolonged Duration for uptime, and Cursed Ground for zone control.
  • Mind your curse limit. You can only keep a limited number of your curses on one enemy. Items such as Doedre's Damning let you apply an additional curse, so decide whether Enfeeble deserves a slot over a damage curse.
  • Pick Blasphemy for comfort, hand-cast for bosses. An aura saves button presses while mapping, while a manually cast Enfeeble gives the full effect when it matters most.

FAQ

Does Enfeeble reduce enemy critical hit chance in Path of Exile 2?

No. In PoE2 the curse only makes enemies deal less damage. The extra effects on accuracy and critical strikes belong to the Path of Exile 1 version of the skill.

Does Enfeeble work on bosses?

Yes, but bosses and other strong monsters are usually less affected by curses, so expect a smaller reduction than the gem shows. It still lowers incoming damage on dangerous attacks, which is why defensive builds use it.

Should I put Enfeeble in Blasphemy or cast it manually?

Blasphemy keeps the curse running with no effort but costs Spirit and lowers the curse's strength. Manual casting is stronger and costs mana instead. Many players start with manual casting and switch to an aura once they have spare Spirit.
