Brawl Stars Game Modes, Clubs and Social Features

This page covers the parts of Brawl Stars that sit around the shooting: how Clubs work, what happens in Friendly Battles and Ranked drafts, why Gem Grab has a countdown, and what a maintenance break means for you. Several searched terms refer to features that have since been replaced. Power League gave way to Ranked on 27 February 2024, Club League ended in October 2023, and the Star Player title no longer adds Experience or Mastery.

Everything below describes the game as of 2 November 2026, during Season 55 (Brawl-o-ween), based on the Brawl Stars community wiki and Supercell's 2026 release notes.

Battle Log

The Battle Log is the list of your recent matches, opened from your profile and the social screens. It is the quickest way to review how a session went, and it is also where replays are shared from.

Do not confuse it with a Battle Card. Battle Cards are a cosmetic added on 28 February 2023: a card with two Profile Icons, a Pin, a Title and a background, shown on your profile and on the loading screen before a battle. Ranked Battle Cards are earned by reaching a rank, and reaching the same rank in several seasons adds a star, up to 7 times.

Patch notes from 2023 tie the two together: replays could be shared with your Club straight from the Battle Log or the Club screen, and a fix made special game modes appear in the log again.

Friendly Battles and Map Maker games give no Trophies and no Records progress, so they do not change the numbers on your profile.

Club Chat

Club Chat is the message board shared by everyone in your Club. Clubs hold up to 30 members. You create one for 1,000 Coins or join one from the Social tab, and you can join at most 5 Clubs per day, which stops endless hopping.

Pins (emotes) work in team, club and friendly-game chat, and the game keeps your five most recently used Pins in a shortcut next to the "..." button. The chat also posts game events: since 30 June 2026, reaching a new Prestige level on a Brawler is announced in Club Chat.

Chat tabs, the team code (see Team Code) and simpler predefined messages came with a chat redesign in the August 2021 update. Club mail is a separate channel: only the President and Vice Presidents can send it, and it lands in every member's Inbox.

Club Chat is also where members organise Mega Pig, the monthly Club event (unlocked at 400 Trophies). Over three event days from Friday to Monday, each member gets 6 Golden Tickets, and every win fills the shared Mega Pig bank with Coins, Power Points and Bling. If the bank reaches its top stage, every member gets 20 extra Starr Drops. Each Mega Pig match uses a random mode, map and modifier in a Mega Pig themed environment, and unused tickets do not carry over to the next month, so the chat is where Clubs remind members to play.

Club President

The Club President is the single top role in a Club. The roles and what each can do:

RoleRights
MemberNo special rights
SeniorShare the Club invite, accept join requests, kick Members (5-minute cooldown)
Vice PresidentSenior rights, plus change Club settings, send Club mail, promote and kick Seniors
PresidentVice President rights, plus promote and kick Vice Presidents

There is exactly one President. If the President promotes a Vice President to President, the former President drops to Vice President automatically, so a handover is one tap and cannot be undone by the old leader. The presidency also rotates automatically when the President has been inactive for at least 14 days, so a Club without an active leader does not stay stuck.

The roles are covered in more detail on Club roles in Brawl Stars.

Countdown Timer

In Gem Grab, the countdown starts when one team holds at least 10 gems and more gems than the other team. It runs for 15 seconds, and the holding team wins if it reaches zero. It stops and resets in two cases: a carrier is defeated and the team drops below 10 gems, or the other team draws level. If both teams hold more than 10 gems with the same count, the countdown waits until one side pulls ahead.

Gem Grab numberValue
Gems needed to start the countdown10
Countdown length15 seconds
Mine spawn rate1 gem every 7 seconds
Match length3:30
Maximum gems in play29
Gems on the map that pause the mine15
5v5 version20 gems to win, two mines, up to 39 in play

The practical advice is to keep the gem holders alive rather than chase kills while the timer runs.

Draft Mode

Draft Mode is how teams pick Brawlers in Ranked. The rules change with your rank:

RanksPick rules
Bronze I to Gold IIIEach player picks any Brawler a teammate has not taken; 22-second limit
Diamond I to IIIEach player bans a Brawler first (22.5 seconds), seeing only their own team's bans, then picks normally. Needs at least 9 Brawlers at Power Level 9
Mythic I and aboveBest-of-three, team captains, coin flip, bans, then picks one by one (22 seconds each). Needs at least 12 Brawlers at Power Level 11

From Mythic I, the team captain is the player with the highest Elo, or the room host when you queue as a team, and captains pick last. If blue picks first, the order is Blue 3, Red 3, Red 2, Blue 2, Blue 1, Red 1. After the draft, everyone gets 17 seconds to set Star Powers, Gadgets and Gears, and teammates can swap Brawlers if both are at Power Level 11. If a game ends in a draw, the third round decides it without a rematch.

Ranked unlocks at 1,000 Trophies. The ranks are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Mythic, Legendary and Masters, each with three tiers, and then Pro. Higher ranks cost more Elo for a loss, and Pro is the last rank but not the end: Elo keeps counting for the Ranked leaderboards, and reaching Pro unlocks the Esports button. Since 28 February 2024 reaching Tiers II and III of a rank also gives Ranked Starr Drops, and Pro Pass XP is earned by winning Ranked matches.

Friendly Battle

A Friendly Battle is a practice lobby where the host picks an event and fills it with friends, clubmates or bots. It gives no Trophies and no Records progress, and every Brawler you pick is fully upgraded, with all Gadgets, Star Powers, Gears, Buffies and Hypercharge. Map Maker creators also need Friendly Battles: a map qualifies once enough players there upvote it.

The host can choose any non-special event in the current rotation, including Gem Grab, Solo, Duo and Trio Showdown, Heist, Bounty, Brawl Ball, Hot Zone, Knockout, Duels, Wipeout, Brawl Hockey, Food Fight and their 5v5 versions where they exist. Super Ball and Food Fight were added on 30 June 2026. Limited-time and special events are not available.

Modifiers the host can switch on include Energy Drink, Tilt, Super Charge, Fast Brawlers, Unlimited Power, Toxic Arena, Fog of War, Slow Bullets and Sandstorms. A Ranked option applies Ranked rules with 1 to 3 rounds and normal, 1.5x or 2x preparation timers, which makes it the standard way to scrim a draft.

Gem Carrier

The Gem Carrier is whoever holds the team's gems in Gem Grab. A defeated carrier drops every gem they hold, so the role is about staying alive, not about damage. Since a December 2017 change, players who drop a lot of gems are less likely to be named Star Player, so the game itself treats losing gems as a mistake.

The win condition depends on the carrier: 10 gems starts the countdown, and one defeat can reset it. Good carriers are usually Brawlers with high health or an escape tool, standing behind the two teammates who hold the lanes. When the timer is running, the carrier's job is to retreat, not to trade shots. The same rules apply in 5v5 Gem Grab with a 20-gem target, and both versions can be practised in a Friendly Battle with bots before you try a carrier role in Ranked.

Maintenance

A maintenance break is a short period when the game servers are offline while Supercell applies changes on the server side, without a new app store version. In 2026 the release notes list breaks on 8 July, 4 August and 16 September, each with balance changes and bug fixes.

These differ from a full season update, which brings a much longer set of notes. The August 2026 update, for example, reworked Brawler Blast, added the Mythic Brawlers Cosmo and Vince and six new Buffies, and introduced the Hide and Seek mode.

If the game will not connect, check whether a break is running before reinstalling anything, and avoid starting a Ranked game just before an announced break.

Power League

Power League was Brawl Stars' ranked mode from 15 March 2021 to 27 February 2024. It replaced Power Play, unlocked at 4,500 Trophies and let you play an unlimited number of matches per day. Any Brawler at Power Level 7 or higher could be used. Matches were best-of-three with team captains, simultaneous bans and a snake draft, ranks reset with each Brawl Pass season, and every match gave at least twice the XP of a normal game.

In the 27 February 2024 update Ranked replaced it. The draft idea survived almost unchanged at the top (see Draft Mode), but the entry bar dropped to 1,000 Trophies, seasons became monthly, and your rank is reduced at the start of each season. Trophies cannot be won or lost in Ranked, as was the case in Power League.

If you read an older guide that mentions Power League ranks, treat it as a description of the old system.

Private Room

What players call a private room in Brawl Stars is the Friendly Battle lobby, where the host decides who joins and whether bots fill the rest. The host invites a friend or clubmate by tapping a bot icon or the tab in the top right corner, turns bots off with the green power button on the bot icon (red means disabled), and can move players between teams with "Switch Team".

Two settings have come and gone. Slots could be disabled from September 2020. A switch to disable Gadgets arrived in March 2020 and was removed in November 2021, replaced by an info note that all Brawlers are fully upgraded.

For normal matches with friends, a team room works the same way but queues into real matchmaking. For watching a game rather than playing it, see Spectate in Brawl Stars.

Star Player

After a 3v3 match one player is named Star Player, based on factors such as damage dealt and contribution to the objective, for example goals in Brawl Ball. Rewards attached to the title have changed with the progression systems:

PeriodStar Player bonus
Until 28 February 2023+10 Experience (within the 1,000 daily Experience cap)
28 February 2023 to 24 June 2025+30% Mastery Points; from 25 April 2023 even in a lost match
Since 24 June 2025No extra progress: Records count wins, and every win is worth the same

So today Star Player is recognition on the results screen rather than a reward. It still says something useful: the title goes to the player who did the most for the objective, not only to the top fragger.

Team Code

Team codes arrived in the August 2021 chat redesign, together with chat tabs and simpler predefined messages, as one of the tools for gathering a team in a team room.

The more common ways to team up are direct invites. From a team or Friendly room, tap an empty slot or the tab in the top right to invite a friend or clubmate. The August 2026 update made online status clearer in the Friend List, which helps you see who is free. When you queue for Ranked as a team, the room host becomes the team captain from Mythic I upwards.
