Trade Price Discount: What Does It Mean in GTA?

In Grand Theft Auto Online, the Trade Price is a discounted purchase rate for vehicles and items that is typically 25% to 40% lower than the "Buy It Now" price. While the standard price allows for immediate access, the Trade Price is locked behind specific gameplay milestones, encouraging players to engage with various heist, business, and contact missions.

How Trade Prices Work

When browsing in-game websites like Warstock Cache & Carry, Legendary Motorsport, or Southern San Andreas Super Autos, you will see two prices for many high-end vehicles:
  • Buy It Now: The full, undiscounted price. No requirements needed.
  • Trade Price: The reduced price. It will be grayed out until the specific unlock criteria are met.

How to Unlock Trade Prices

Unlock requirements vary depending on which DLC update the vehicle belongs to. You can see the specific requirement by hovering over the locked Trade Price in the in-game store.

Strategic Benefits

  • Massive Savings: For expensive vehicles like the Oppressor Mk II or the F-160 Raiju, the Trade Price can save you over $1,500,000.
  • Stacking Discounts: If Rockstar offers a weekly sale (e.g., 30% off), that discount applies to the price currently available to you. If you have the Trade Price unlocked, the 30% discount is calculated from that already-lower number, leading to the best possible deal.
  • Investment Efficiency: Savings from Trade Prices can be reinvested into businesses (like an Acid Lab or Agency) to further increase your hourly earnings.

Important Notes

  • Leader Requirement: For Heist-related trade prices, you generally must be the Host/Leader. Joining a friend's heist usually will not unlock the discount for you.
  • Randomized Unlocks: Vehicles from the LS Tuners update (e.g., Karin Calico GTF) are randomized. You unlock a new random trade price every 5 Reputation levels until level 75, at which point all are unlocked.
