WoW Forever Legacy & Progression
Beyond levels and gear, WoW Forever tracks progress in a few systems that Classic Era never had. The biggest is the Legacy System: account-wide challenges that pay out points, which every character can spend on small perks. Around it sit camping, the Merchant's Favor currency of the two supply factions, a new battleground with its own Marks of Honor, and a long list of new reputations. These are the words you will see in guild recruitment posts, in shop listings and in your own quest log from the first week.
This glossary explains them for players who plan their first character or their alts. It reflects Blizzard's announcements and the beta client as of 1 November 2026, three days before the 4 November launch. Numbers that come only from the beta are marked as such and may change after release. For dungeons, raids and new zones see the companion zones, dungeons and raids glossary.

Legacy System
The Legacy System is the account-wide progression layer of Forever. You complete challenges on any character, each one gives a Legacy Point to the whole Battle.net account, and then every character spends those points on its own perks. Blizzard calls it horizontal progression: it adds convenience and options, and all of it can be unlocked on a single character, so alts are optional.
The window opens with your first point. For most players that happens when the first character reaches level 25, but reaching 150 skill in a non-gathering primary profession or exploring the whole world map unlocks it as well. You open it with the shield icon on the menu bar or the default key Y.
Hardcore follows its own rules. It is not available at launch; when it arrives, challenges done on other rulesets will not show there, while a challenge completed in Hardcore counts on all other rulesets too. Blizzard has announced 12 Hardcore-only challenges for that release. Example: "Legacy unlocked on my first 25, now saving points" is a common line in week one.
Legacy Points and the spending cap
Legacy Points are what the challenges pay. At launch there are 65 to earn, one per challenge, and they are shared by all non-Hardcore characters on the account. A finished challenge does not pay again on a second character.
The key number is the spending cap: each character can spend only 16 points at launch. Blizzard set the cap on purpose, so nobody feels forced to finish every challenge in the first weeks. A player without alts can still reach 29 points on one character (3 from leveling, 6 from tradeskills, 12 from PvP, 2 from Adventure and 6 from dungeons and raids), which is far more than the cap. Each character spends independently, so your main and an alt can pick different perks from the same pool.
Example: "I'm at 18 Legacy, capped" means the player has earned more than 16 points and can no longer add perks on that character until Blizzard raises the cap.
Legacy Challenges
Legacy Challenges are the 65 goals that earn points, sorted into six categories. Blizzard plans to add new challenges, perks and rewards with each content release.
| Category | Points | What counts |
|---|---|---|
| Classes | 27 | Reach level 25, 45 and 60 with each of the nine classes |
| Tradeskills | 18 | Reach 150, 225 and 300 in Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring |
| Player vs. Player | 12 | PvP ranks, battleground reputations and the Field of Honor journey |
| Dungeons | 3 | Final boss of every dungeon in three level bands |
| Raids | 3 | Full clear of each launch raid |
| Adventure | 2 | Explore the world map and finish the Lord Valthalak questline |
Our shop sells these by category in the Legacy Challenges category, which is why lot names follow the same six groups.
Spelunker challenges (dungeons)
The three dungeon challenges go by the names Novice Spelunker, Experienced Spelunker and Master Spelunker. Each asks you to kill the final boss of every dungeon in one level band: 15 to 25, 26 to 45 and 46 to 60. Partial progress gives nothing until the whole set is done.
The Novice set includes Ragefire Chasm or Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Wailing Caverns, The Deadmines, Shadowfang Keep and the Excavation Site. The Experienced set adds City of Dalaran, Blackfathom Deeps, Gnomeregan, The Drowned City, the Scarlet Monastery wings, Razorfen Kraul and Krol'dok Stronghold. Master is the long one: Razorfen Downs through Alcaz Prison, Blackrock Depths, Blackmaw Hold, both Blackrock Spire wings, Scholomance, Stratholme, all three Dire Maul wings and The Shaper's Terrace.
Example: "Need Gnomer for Experienced Spelunker" means a player has every other dungeon of the 26 to 45 set done.
Conqueror challenges (raids)
The raid challenges are one point each for a full clear of a launch raid, listed in guides as Conqueror of the Wilds (all 13 bosses of Hyjal Summit), Conqueror of the Deeps (all 8 bosses of Barrow Deeps) and Conqueror of the Lair (Onyxia). They become possible only when the raids open on 9 December 2026.
Because the challenges need every boss, a raid team that skips optional encounters will not complete them. Onyxia's Lair also needs the Drakefire Amulet attunement first, explained in the Onyxia's Lair entry.
Example: "Conqueror of the Deeps run, full clear only" in a PUG post tells applicants that the leader will not stop after the loot bosses.
Class and tradeskill challenges
These two categories are most of the pool: 45 of the 65 points. The class challenges pay a point for reaching levels 25, 45 and 60 with each class, which shops sell as Novice (1 to 25), Experienced (25 to 45) and Master (45 to 60) leveling. The tradeskill challenges pay at 150, 225 and 300 skill in the six crafting professions; gathering professions and secondary skills do not count.
A single character can only collect 3 class points and 6 tradeskill points (two professions), so these are the categories where alts add the most. Example: "Leveling a priest to 25 for the Legacy point" is the alt plan these challenges encourage.
Adventure and PvP challenges
The two Adventure challenges are exploration of the whole world map on one character (the Explore Azeroth achievement, which shops call Explorer) and the Lord Valthalak questline for the second dungeon set, from "An Earnest Proposition" to "Saving the Best for Last", sold as Lord Valthalak Laid to Rest.
The 12 PvP points come from reaching PvP ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 (5 points), Exalted with each of the four battleground reputations (4 points, listed as Master of Warsong, Arathi, Alterac and Darkspear) and weeks 4, 7 and 10 of the Field of Honor season journey (3 points). PvP challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore.
Example: "Two more weeks of Field of Honor for my week 10 point" refers to the seasonal journey quests.
Legacy perk trees and rewards
Points are spent in three perk trees: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. The perks are small conveniences, not raw power. Examples from Blizzard's list: Performance sometimes adds extra Merchant's Favor from the supply factions, Field Guide shortens the one-hour cooldown on camping features, Dedicated Study gives free Elemental Essences daily once all tradeskills are at 300, and For Great Honor and Frequent Flier sit in the other trees.
Legacy Points also unlock four account-wide rewards at launch: the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, the Spectral Bear Cub pet, the Spectral Bear Tabard and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount. Example: "Going Field Guide first for camp uptime" is a typical perk choice for a leveler.
Camping
Camping turns the old Cooking Fire into a gathering spot. At Cooking skill 1 the fire becomes a Basic Campfire that holds up to three camp features; cooks later learn campfires for five or ten. Every nearby player can add one feature from a profession, and anyone who sits or crafts at the camp for at least one minute gets the other features' benefits.
Features unlock at profession skill 20, and those that need 140 or more drop in dungeons and raids. Examples: Blacksmithing's Sharpening Wheel adds Strength, Herbalism's Incense Candle adds Intellect, Fishing's Fishing Bowl gives 8% stats, Leatherworking's Camp Tent adds rested experience and Engineering's Reagent Bot sells reagents. All features share a one-hour cooldown and do not stack with the matching class buff, such as Arcane Intellect or Blessing of Kings. On PvP rulesets enemies can find and attack your camp.
Example: "Camp up at the Crossroads, drop your features" is a call to stack buffs before a dungeon. Our camping guide lists every feature.
Merchant's Favor and Waylaid Crates
Merchant's Favor is the currency of the two supply factions: the Azeroth Commerce Authority for the Alliance and Durotar Supply and Logistics for the Horde. Community guides describe the loop: you fill Waylaid Crates with goods and hand them in for Favor, and Craftsman's Writs are the main repeatable source of the faction's reputation. Favor buys recipes and cosmetics.
Beta guides place the camps in Redridge Mountains for the Alliance and west of the Crossroads in the Barrens for the Horde, and list the Reins of the Pack Kodo at Exalted for 6,000 Favor. Crate payouts differ between guides, so treat any per-crate table as provisional until launch. The Legacy perk Performance can add extra Favor on a hand-in.
Example: "Saving Favor for the Kodo" means a player is banking toward the Pack Kodo mount. Favor can be ordered on our Merchant's Favor lot.
Darkspear Islands battleground
Battle for the Darkspear Islands is the new battleground of Forever: 15 against 15, for levels 30 to 60, on islands off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh. The Horde side is the Darkspear Raiders and the Alliance side the Theramore Expeditionary Force.
The map mixes two familiar ideas. Four capture points give points over time, faster the more your team holds, and a central flag carried to a base you own gives a bonus. The first team to 2,000 points wins. You queue through a battlemaster in any capital or in the Barrens; Horde players can also use the Darkspear base at Merchant Coast, and Alliance players the base at Northwatch, which has a portal into the battle.
Example: "DI weekend, farming Marks" refers to this battleground. Exalted with your side's faction completes one of the PvP Legacy Challenges and starts a short questline for its tabard.
Marks of Honor
Marks of Honor are tokens you receive from battlegrounds and turn in to their factions for reputation. Forever has four battlegrounds with their own marks: Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley and the new Darkspear Islands. Blizzard confirms that Darkspear Islands marks feed its reputation quests, and the beta quest "Conflict at Darkspear Islands" asks for three of them.
Marks matter twice: reputation with each battleground faction unlocks its gear and consumables, and Exalted with all four is worth 4 Legacy Points. Honor and rank points come separately, from battleground wins, PvP quests and the weekly seasonal tasks. Example: "Still need WSG marks for Exalted" is how players track the grind. Marks for all four battlegrounds are on our Marks of Honor lot.
New reputations
Forever adds a set of new factions on top of the classic ones. Confirmed by Blizzard are the two battleground factions of Darkspear Islands and the two supply factions above. The beta client adds more, such as the Kirin Tor (Alliance only, with a tabard at Exalted), Powderfuse (a Steamwheedle Cartel faction in the Riverglades), The Watchers (signet rings as rewards), the Guardians of Hyjal, the High Order, the Brotherhood of the Horse and the Cenarion Scouts.
Some of these had no rewards listed in the beta client, so their value at launch is still open. Our shop names a few lots by zone, for example Mount Hyjal and Riverglades reputation, next to the faction-named ones. Standings run from Neutral through Friendly, Honored and Revered to Exalted, as in the original game.
Example: "Powderfuse to Revered for the monocle" points at one of the cosmetic rewards found in the client data.
FAQ
How many Legacy Points are there in WoW Forever?
65 at launch, one per Legacy Challenge, shared across the account. Each character can spend at most 16 of them, and one character alone can earn up to 29.
How do you unlock Legacy Points?
Earn your first point: reach level 25 on any character, reach 150 in a crafting profession or explore the full world map. Then open the window with Y.
Do Legacy Points work on Hardcore?
Not at launch, because Hardcore comes later. Blizzard says points earned elsewhere will not carry into Hardcore, while Hardcore challenges will count everywhere, and 12 Hardcore-only challenges are planned.
What is Merchant's Favor used for?
It is spent with the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics on recipes and cosmetics, with the Pack Kodo mount listed as the biggest purchase in beta guides.
