Tarkov Maps, Bosses, Traders and Wipe Terms
Escape from Tarkov throws a lot of shorthand at new players: map names that never shipped, boss nicknames, a trader whose standing you cannot buy, and "wipe" language that changed when the game left early access. This glossary explains the terms people search for most and states what is true on 1 November 2026, after Tarkov 1.0 (15 November 2025) and the first season update, 1.1.0 (3 August 2026).
It is written for players returning after a long break and for anyone comparing old guides with the current game. Numbers that Battlestate Games rebalances often (spawn chances, insurance timers, Fence values) are labelled with the source and patch, so check the in-game screen before you plan around them.
| Term | What it is | Status on 01.11.2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Suburbs | Long-teased map | Not released, no date |
| Terminal | Endgame location | Released with 1.0, story access only |
| Tagilla | Scav boss | Active on Factory and Interchange |
| Fence reputation | Scav karma and Fence standing | Active |
| Insurance fraud | Community name for abusing insurance returns | Insurance rules changed in 1.1.0 |
| Rats | Low-risk playstyle | Community term |
| Pre-wipe event | Event before a reset | Wipes are now seasonal |
Maps
Suburbs
Suburbs is a map name that has circulated since the early days of Tarkov as part of the planned city areas. It is not a released map. It is not part of the raid list in Tarkov 1.0 or in the 1.1.0 season update, and Battlestate has not published a release date for it.
What is confirmed and what is not:
- The community wiki lists Suburbs under unreleased content, marked as a DLC-type location.
- The 2026 content plan announced on 29 December 2025 named two new maps, Icebreaker and End of Line. Suburbs was not in it.
- Battlestate's roadmap of 27 August 2026, which runs to the end of the year, lists a Lighthouse rework, a new boss and a Unity 6 engine upgrade, and again no Suburbs.
Treat any layout, loot or extract description of Suburbs as invented: descriptions of apartment blocks and parks in older guides do not come from a playable build. If you want a city-style raid today, the released urban maps are Streets of Tarkov and Ground Zero, covered in the all raids bundle and the Streets of Tarkov raid services.
Terminal
Terminal is the final story location and it is real, but it is not a normal map you queue for. It shipped with the 1.0 update as a sealed area and opened with patch 1.0.0.2 on 1 December 2025; within minutes of the servers coming back, the streamer Tigz became the first player to trigger the transition, and Battlestate's Nikita Buyanov later confirmed him as the first player to escape.
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Access | Transit from Shoreline only, after presenting an access item at the port garrison intercom; the item is used up |
| Access item | Prapor's letter for the port checkpoint, priced at 5,000,000 roubles since the 1.1.0 trader price rise, two per trader reset |
| Time window | In-game night; the community wiki gives 21:00 to 06:00 |
| Goal | Reach the Zubr boat at the docks, the only extraction out of Terminal and, in the story, out of Tarkov |
| Insurance | Insurance does not cover a Terminal run |
| Later changes | A January 2026 update added group transits |
The final mission is called "The Ticket". Terminal is tied to the ending of the 1.0 campaign, which is why it is the one "upcoming map" from older guides that actually appeared. For the quest chain that leads to it, see the Tarkov quests guide.
Extracts and raid timers
These terms have their own pages, so only the key point is repeated here.
- Labs timer. The Lab raid is short (the community wiki lists 30 minutes) and insured gear lost there is not returned. Details: Labs raid timer.
- Car extract. A paid vehicle exit that also feeds Scav karma. See car extract and, for Customs, Dorms V-Ex.
- Reserve D2. The underground bunker exit on Reserve, explained in Reserve D2 extract.
- Escape time. The raid countdown and how to plan around it: escape time extraction.
Bosses
Tagilla
Tagilla is a Scav boss with a welding mask and a sledgehammer, known for rushing players in close quarters. He is an optional spawn, so a raid on his map does not always contain him.
| Fact | Value (tarkov.dev data, read 01.11.2026) |
|---|---|
| Maps | Factory (day and night) and Interchange |
| Spawn chance | Night Factory about 60 percent, day Factory about 35 percent, Interchange about 35 percent |
| Total health | 1,220 (head 100, thorax 320, stomach 260, each arm 130, each leg 140) |
| Notable loot | Welding mask, armored rig, hammer |
| Quest tie-in | Jaeger's "The Huntsman Path - Factory Chief" |
The listed chance is a ceiling, not a certainty: on maps with several possible bosses he is only one of the candidates. His mask covers the face and the 100 HP head zone is the quickest kill, but sources disagree on its armor class, so check the ammunition chart instead of trusting a number. Because Factory raids are short, he is one of the most hunted bosses; the Tarkov bosses kill service and the Factory raid cover that route.
Shturman
Shturman is the Woods boss, normally escorted by two guards around the sawmill. He is a long-range threat, so the usual advice is to isolate him from the guards. Full write-up: Shturman.
Traders and the economy
Fence reputation
Fence reputation is the same number as Scav karma. You do not raise it by spending money with Fence; you raise it by how you behave when you play as a Scav. It matters because Fence sells gear taken from other players and because karma shapes your Scav runs.
What the sources agree on:
- Surviving a normal Scav extract adds about +0.01.
- Killing a PMC as a Scav adds about +0.02 to +0.03.
- Killing other Scavs as a Scav lowers it, and community tests disagree on how much per kill.
- Cooperative and vehicle extracts give the biggest single gains, about 0.2 to 0.25 on the first use per map by community counts, and the reward shrinks on repeat uses on the same map.
- The practical range runs from about -7 to +6. Fence's top loyalty level needs 6.00.
- Since patch 0.12.11.2.3 (20 August 2021) the post-raid screen shows how much reputation each raid changed.
What a high reputation does (Battlestate changes of 21 March 2023): Fence restocks more often with better items, pays more when you sell to him, vehicle extracts cost less, Scav cooldowns shorten and the Scav Box timer in the hideout drops. Patch 1.1.0 also rebalanced trader reputation requirements, Fence included, so pre-August 2026 thresholds may be out of date. Exact per-action values are community estimates, because Battlestate does not publish them. Route ideas are in our Fence reputation guide.
Insurance fraud
"Insurance fraud" is a community phrase, not an in-game menu. It means arranging a raid so that insured gear is lost but comes back by mail, for example by hiding or dropping insured items where other players will not find them. The mechanic underneath is simple: insured items you lose in a raid return if nobody loots them.
Insurance after patch 1.1.0 (3 August 2026):
| Insurer | Return speed | Return message kept |
|---|---|---|
| Prapor | Slowest, cheapest; faster than before 1.1.0 | Longer than before 1.1.0 |
| Therapist | Faster than Prapor; faster than before 1.1.0 | Longer than before 1.1.0 |
| Jaeger | Fastest and most expensive; added in 1.1.0 | Expires sooner than the others |
Before 1.1.0, guides quoted roughly 24 to 36 hours for Prapor and 12 to 24 hours for Therapist; 1.1.0 shortened both but Battlestate did not publish exact new times, so read the timer on the insurance screen. Higher trader loyalty levels give a small insurance discount, and Intelligence Center level 2 cuts Prapor and Therapist return times by 20 percent. Insurance is switched off for seasonal characters in Kord Breach and works only in the PvP Zone and PvE Zone.
Where it fails: gear on a character who is missing in action at raid end is not returned, nothing is returned from The Lab, ammunition in insured magazines is lost, and anything you do not collect in the window is gone. Because of those limits, "fraud" is a gamble rather than a sure refund.
Playstyles
Rats
A rat is a player who wins by patience: moving slowly, staying hidden and extracting with profit instead of chasing fights. The word is used as an insult and as a badge. The opposite is the "Chad", a player in expensive gear who pushes every fight.
Why it works in Tarkov: only the secure container always survives a death, and an item that leaves a raid with you gains found-in-raid status that many quest handovers require. A player who risks little and extracts often can build a stash without winning duels. Standard Edition accounts start with the Alpha, a 2x2 secure container with four slots.
Typical habits:
- Cheap kits, so a death costs little.
- Walking or crouch-walking, and moving while others are shooting.
- Compact, high-value loot instead of bulky gear.
- Late visits to hot spots, or picking off the survivors of a fight.
- Ambush positions at corners and in dark rooms.
Do not confuse it with a hatchling (melee-only entry), a third-party (joining a fight late) or an extract camper (waiting at an exit), which is the most criticised habit. Since 1.1.0 some construction materials for level 1 to 3 hideout zones no longer need found-in-raid status in the PvP Zone and PvE Zone, which lowers the pressure to rat purely for upgrade items.
Wipes and seasons
Pre-wipe event
A pre-wipe event is a limited-time event in the period before a character reset. Historically, players described these as stretches with rich loot, extra bosses and cheaper trader gear. That vocabulary is older than the current game: Tarkov 1.0 on 15 November 2025 was reported as the last traditional full wipe, and the profile model changed again with 1.1.0.
| Model | How it works on 01.11.2026 |
|---|---|
| PvP Zone and PvE Zone | Permanent characters, not reset by seasons |
| Seasonal characters | Opt-in, PvP only, separate servers; progression resets every four to six months with a major update |
| First season | Kord Breach, started 3 August 2026 with patch 1.1.0 |
The nearest thing to a pre-wipe event in the new model was Blackout, which launched on 14 July 2026 with patch 1.0.6.5. The Lab's lights went out a few minutes into each raid, The Wedge and his Black Division moved onto The Lab, and a five-quest chain from Skier needed level 30 and a Labs keycard. It served as the lead-in to Season 1, whose Kord Breach theme is built around the Black Division. See the Blackout guide. We found no confirmed date for the next season start, so ignore any "exact wipe date" claims without a Battlestate source.
Quest names that confuse search
- "Is this a reference?" asks for Wi-Fi cameras at Easter-egg spots on several maps and pays 30,000 experience: Is this a reference.
- Gunsmith Part 6 is a Mechanic build task around a Remington Model 870: Gunsmith Part 6.
Tips
- Check the date of any guide. Anything written before 3 August 2026 may describe the old insurance timers, no Jaeger insurance and no seasons.
- Do not plan a route to Suburbs. Terminal needs the campaign and an expensive access letter, so budget for both.
- For boss hunting, expect misses: a 35 to 60 percent spawn chance means several empty raids.
- Keep Scav runs clean if you want Fence value; killing Scavs costs reputation.

FAQ
Is Suburbs in Escape from Tarkov?
No. Suburbs has not been released and has no announced date. The 2026 plan named other maps, and one outlet reports it was cut, but Battlestate has not confirmed that.
Is Terminal a normal map?
No. It is the final story location, opened on 1 December 2025. You reach it only by transiting from Shoreline at in-game night with Prapor's letter for the port checkpoint, and the only way out is the Zubr boat.
What is the difference between Fence reputation and Scav karma?
They are the same value. Your behaviour on Scav runs changes it, and it sets how much Fence offers you. It cannot be bought with roubles.
Does Tarkov still have a normal wipe?
Not for the permanent PvP Zone and PvE Zone characters. Since 1.1.0 (3 August 2026), resets happen on separate seasonal characters every four to six months.
