Aberrant Cinders are the currency of the Helltide, the zone event of Diablo 4 that rises at the top of every hour and lasts 55 minutes, with a five minute pause before the next one. You spend Cinders on Tortured Gifts, chests tied to a gear slot that hold Legendary and Unique items, Forgotten Souls and Lair Keys. This lot covers 1,000 to 5,000 Cinders.

Where Cinders come from

About one monster kill in five drops a Cinder, while Elites, Local Events and red-glowing Helltide nodes always give some.
Helltide Commanders that appear after a Portal Invasion and the roaming boss Kixxarth, Helltide Assassin, pay out Cinders as well.
In Season 15, Diablo's Splinter of Terror modifies Helltide: its Wretched Vermin modifier makes Demonic Rats elite for more Cinders, and the Flaring Cinders upgrade lets the Iconic Power spawn Cinders inside a Helltide.

What Cinders are spent on

Tortured Gifts: each Gift names its slot (armor, rings, amulets, one-handed or two-handed weapons) and has a fixed Cinder price; a Gift of Mysteries costs more and drops several items.
In Torment difficulties the Gifts can also hold Forgotten Souls, Baneful Hearts for the Accursed Ritual and Lair Keys.
War Plans: since patch 3.1 the Helltide objective asks for a set amount of Cinders spent instead of a number of chests opened.

Note: Cinders do not carry over from one Helltide to the next, and a death costs half of them, so they are opened into Gifts inside the Helltide where they drop. Name the gear slots you want when the manager confirms your order.
