Harbinger of Hatred is the Greater Lair Boss that guards a corner of Mephisto's domain in Nahantu: Harbinger's Den, reached from the Kurast Docks waypoint. He was one of three Greater Lair Bosses when Season 8 first split the boss ladder into tiers on 29 April 2025, and in Season 15 he shares that tier with Duriel, Andariel and the Butcher. Each ordered kill ends with his Hoard opened by a Greater Lair Key, and those keys are included.

How the fight goes

  • He bites in a short frontal arc with Devastating Crunch, drops three circles that burst into void zones with Mephisto's Corruption, and sprays fire and corruption ahead of him with Corrupted Barrage.
  • Orbs of Hatred split into slow projectiles aimed at your position, and Hateful Lunge carries him across the arena out of a nearby portal.
  • At every quarter of his life his kin rush out of the activated gateways and kill on contact; the power Akarat leaves in the arena destroys those gateways.
  • His element is Shadow, so Shadow Resistance pays off here.

What the Hoard holds

  • His pool holds Tal Rasha's Iridescent Loop for Sorcerers, Ugly Bastard Helm for Barbarians, Fleshrender for Druids and Temerity for several classes.
  • His Boss Trophy is the Abhorrent Heart, which the Horadric Cube turns into a Harbinger Unique.
  • Lair of Runes adds Teb, Wat and Yom Runes to his drops.
  • Patch 3.2.1 slightly raised the Mythic Unique rate of Greater Lair Bosses, and Mythics from his Hoard now roll from his own pool.

Requirements

  • A level 70 Seasonal character: the lot offers Season Softcore and Season Hardcore.
  • The Torment tier you order unlocked, Torment I at least.

Where do Greater Lair Keys come from?

Initiate Lair Bosses such as Urivar drop them, more often from Torment VI. The keys for your kills come with the order.

Can a kill lead to Belial?

At times. Belial can ambush you after a Greater Hoard is opened, and that version drops the Superior Lair Key for his own lair.

How ordering works

  1. Pick your options and place the order.
