Mage Tower Legion Artifact Appearance - Challenging Artifact Skin
Mage Tower Legion Artifact Appearances — Overview
The Mage Tower Artifact Appearances are some of the most coveted transmogs in WoW. Introduced in Legion, each specialization received a unique “Challenging” weapon model unlocked by defeating solo encounters in the Mage Tower.
The Mage Tower challenges were unforgiving, spec-specific scenarios that tested interrupts, survivability, burst windows, and perfect cooldown usage. Completing your spec’s encounter awarded the base Challenging Artifact skin, with additional tints tied to broader Legion gameplay (dungeons, raids, and PvP). Thanks to their striking class fantasy and the prestige of the original challenges, these appearances remain a centerpiece of many transmog collections today.
Important: The original Color 1 (base Challenging skin) from Legion’s Mage Tower is no longer obtainable after Battle for Azeroth’s pre-patch. However, if you unlocked it back in Legion, you can still pursue its additional tints by completing legacy dungeon, raid, and PvP objectives.
Why Players Still Want These Appearances
- Prestige & challenge: A badge of honor tied to one of WoW’s toughest solo feats.
- Unique class fantasy: Models crafted to mirror each spec’s identity and lore.
- Collection depth: Multiple tints per spec for completionists and alt enjoyers.
- Timeless visuals: Distinct silhouettes that still stand out in modern transmog sets.
Timewalking Mage Tower (Modern Rewards)
During Legion Timewalking, a modern version of the Mage Tower returns. While it does not grant the original Challenging skins, it offers:
- Fel Werebear (Guardian Druid form) as a thematic alternative to the original Werebear.
- Tier 20 set recolors inspired by Tomb of Sargeras class sets.
