How the Codex fills up

Salvaging a Legendary stores its Aspect, and a stronger roll replaces the stored one for good. The loot filter has a Codex Upgrade Check that marks such drops.
Each Aspect sits in one of five categories that limits its slots; on an amulet it gets +50%, on a two-handed weapon +100%.
Ancestral Legendaries can roll a higher Aspect maximum than regular ones.
Items with an imprinted Aspect cannot be traded.
A Seasonal Codex resets when the season ends; the Eternal one keeps everything.

Note: patch 3.2.1 raised Legendary drop rates in Torment I to V, so players lean less on random Horadric Cube upgrades to complete the Codex.

Why are Aspects missing from my Codex?

An Aspect enters the Codex when a Legendary carrying it is salvaged, and drops are random. The Horadric Cube can turn a Rare into a Legendary, but the power it adds is random too.

Do the Aspects carry over?

On Eternal they stay. A Seasonal Codex starts empty again next season.
