Masterworking is the Blacksmith's endgame upgrade in Diablo 4. It raises an item's Quality step by step, and every rank lifts base Damage, Armor, Resistance and all affix values by about 1%, up to Quality rank 25. This lot takes the item in the slot you pick across the Quality range you set on the slider, with the Masterworking materials included in the order.

Resources earned while the boost runs stay on the account.

How Masterworking works

It works on Legendary, Unique and Mythic Unique equipment.
Each upgrade costs Obducite, Gold and other materials, and the Obducite price climbs with the Quality the item already has.
Obducite comes from Nightmare Dungeons, the Kurast Undercity with a Tribute of Refinement, the Infernal Hordes and Mercenary bartering.
At rank 25 the Capstone upgrade boosts one random affix, which can be the Tempered one. Rerolling where it lands costs Obducite and Gold, plus Neathiron on Ancestral items.
A Masterworked item can no longer be traded.

Note: the Season 15 Season Blessings include the Urn of Masterworking, which raises the chance of extra Obducite drops.

Masterworking FAQ

Does it stack with Greater Affixes?

Yes. The Quality bonus applies on top of a Greater Affix, and the Capstone adds to both.

Masterwork before or after Transfiguring?

Before. Transfiguration in the Horadric Cube usually makes the item unmodifiable, and one of its outcomes adds bonus Quality that stacks with Masterworking.
